Re: Charlie Wescott Jr

I am certainly no Wescott sycophant, but I am very interested in how he does; he has really taken some flack for his bold (brash) statements, and many in the PS world are hoping he falls on his face....gotta give him points for taking this on and traveling a long distance with many skeptics watching....takes big ones

It looks in tech that he is operating with a small crew as he said he would....I'd like to see a pic of his pit area compared to the 18 wheelers

Years ago in No Problem at kind of the beginning of the Hemi thing, I observed his competitors with t op of the line paint jobs, rigs, chefs.....all the while Wescott's pit looked like Glidden's....like a bomb went off....all work and no play

any body know when 1st qual is?

Nobody works harder and uses their head more. He will find a way to be fast. He always does. I wish him good luck.

Wishing Charlie all the luck..P/S desperately needs more diversity. Would love to see some pictures of his "low buck operation"

No way he shows up unprepared.
198 mph looks like he clicked it off early.
We'll see what he's got shortly.

While Charlie certainly made a lot of brash statements when he ran the Hemi cars, from what I have seen he has been pretty humble about the Pro Stock effort. Maybe I have missed something.

Re: Charlie Wescott Jr

I asked Charlie yesterday what he hoped to accomplish during his debut this weekend and typical Charlie he said, "to go out there and not look like an idiot."

He may be a long way from being competitive but he's already got the respect of almost every other Pro Stock team out there because he was determined to do things his way and takes no short cuts.

It's all about what's in the bellhousing! Charlie will make the HP , no problem ! When we use to Test, run IHRA, and then go to an NHRA Natl. event with the Top Fueler, it was amazing how different we had to run the clutch ! Wescott's aren't stupid. They'll figure it out. ... A little history lesson - Think about this - How many Top Fuel Races did Alan and Blane Johnson qualify for the first year they switched from Alky to Nitro ? ....yep ...The rest is history.

Nothing to be ashamed of here. Great showing for the first time out. Westcotts will figure it out.

Re: Charlie Wescott Jr

Charlie is too smart to not be able to figure it out; he will be alright. It's just a matter of time.

Re: Charlie Wescott Jr

I wish Charlie all the best in his effort, but he is going to have a long and expensive learning curve to deal with. I am curious if he feels that the new efi rule is a positive or a negative to his new operation.

I am sure that he will give it his best effort as he catches up with the rest of the field in the toughest category in NHRA. The class needs a Ford in Pro Stock to attract and retain fans.

Nice showing first time in competition.
What needs to be stressed here is that someone took a "defunct" brand and built it into a qualifying ProStocker, then proceeded to throw a 6.883 at a 6.875. That's a win in my book.

Re: Charlie Wescott Jr

Not to be nitpicky with all the accolades for him qualifying first time out. But all he had to do is show up and pass tech.
I do wish him well and commend him for doing it his way. But right now anyone with a car that passes tech is a qualifier.

Half these cars can't make the 1/8 mile mark in their own lane. I don't know who is responsible for chassis dynamics but I get the feeling that "chassis dynamics" is too big a term for them.

ProStock is essentially ProMod with body and engine restrictions. And stick shifts.

ProMod with 500 cid gas EFI and clutches would be interesting.

After Q4, Charlie is in the show in the #16 spot at 6.818. Marc Hogan and Dave River finished #17 and #18; and, of course, failed to qualify. Congrats again to Charlie!

'splain to me why session 2 6.77 don't count, Charlie qualifies with 6.8something
Stupid NHRA, I know the top 12 qualify initially, but they "throw out" early runs?

Jim Mango G/S 1453 06-25-2016 07:06 PM

Re: Charlie Wescott Jr

If your not in the Top 12 after the first 2 qualifying sessions, the runs are thrown out. NHRA did this a few years back, to prevent the whole field from being set in the good air during the Friday Night Session.
