Re: seat belt expiration
You are asking for a sign of intelligence and fairness from the same people who think that electrons flow from the cathode to the anode. Putting the cut off switch on the + side is even dumber than costing racers money and effort that is not needed. If you go 11.50 you can use ratty 50 year old stock belts, but at 11.49 you need to spend the money every 2 years.

Re: seat belt expiration
I have a street car that may go "too quick" next time I try it. It's just a toy that I very rarely take to the track.
I don't mind adding a roll bar (too much), but that seat belt hassle is something I don't want. I certainly don't mind the added safety of a harness, but it ain't gonna be bad in 2 years. |

Re: seat belt expiration
You need to put it in perspective. It makes a lot more sense than a trans shield going bad in 5 years!

Re: seat belt expiration
actually, what I was asking about was whether current belts expire at the beginning or end of a month. I moved the thread over to the tech section.
I do agree with the 5 years especially if your car doesn't sit out in the sun all the time. |
Re: seat belt expiration
You can thank the people at the SFI, who used test results from 1966, to set the replacement date at 2 year intervals.
SFI Presentation: http://www.sfifoundation.com/wp-cont...%2012-2014.pdf The Europeans however, must not being getting payoffs from the seat belt manufacturers, because their test results show a much different result when using the exact same seat belt material. Either that or DuPont only sends the "good stuff" to Europe and the US only gets what fell off the truck. European Test Report: https://www.easa.europa.eu/system/fi...nal_5-2010.pdf |

Re: seat belt expiration
Not that I agree with the 2 year deal. D3tv nhra you tube channel has a sfi video on why it is 2 years. It is 40 minutes but not too boring. https://youtu.be/lmx9dAJx_CA

Re: seat belt expiration
I like to agree but.... My car is stored in a garage, a slow 10.20s bracket and S/ST car ... After two seasons they need replacing , I race 3 times a month almost year round, that's what my wife tells me. I guess I'm just hard on equipment......

Re: seat belt expiration
Hello All.
I'm not really happy with the 2 year seat belt rule either. But it is there sand box, and if I want to play I need to follow their rules. I would say 5 years is probably a little fairer. The day of most race cars setting out side in the weather are gone. Enclosed trailers are pretty normal, and a lot of racers have garages to keep their cars in. I know a guy that put new belts in his car at the beginning of the year. Lost the motor on the 1st pass of the season, and did not get to race till the next year. He raced at 1 local event, then he had some motor problems again that had to be taken car of and didn't get to race at all that year. So he just put another set in the car so he can race this year. And no he don't buy the cheap $60/70 belts, he gets the good $150/200 cam lock belts. His car is keep in a Heated garage, out of the sun covered by blankets. So he got 3 or 4 passes on them and they are trash, all because of time. I'm sure he is not the only guy out there that has had the same problem. I'm sure there are plenty of brand new seat belts out there in boxes, that never got installed for one reason or another. Chassis shop, paint shop, engine builder, just plain life. However with all this said, there is only one way to get this rule changed. Unforgenetly we as racers will never stand together long enough to get it changed or any other rule or entry fee's, or pay outs ect for that matter. We just want to race, so we do what we have to, to race. Just my 2 cents Cal S/ST 1177 |
