Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
3 Attachment(s)
Hi gang - After a short ( 8 hours ) drive thru Pennsylvania , New Jersey ,New York and Massachusetts we're finally here in New Hampshire .Took a new route this trip and although it's a bit longer my kidneys are still in place as most New England roads are terrible .
Today is mostly tech and parking with some test n tune mixed in .After I get settled I'll stroll around and get a few photos just to keep the boss happy . On the way this morning I passed this car carrier - but I can't figure out how he could see out the windshield ..... |

Not much to report from the test n tune this afternoon - way too hot and not many Stock-S/S cars in the lanes .Can't say that I blame them but those that did were treated to a track that was working well even with the extreme temps this after .

Good morning - No trip to New England Dragway would be complete without going to Hampton Beach for some fresh 'lobsta' and this year was no different .Both Mackeys and Browns were open for business and it was decided that it would be Mackeys again this trip .And the trip home was almost as good - seeing some of the summer cottages ( as the're called) along the coast line was almost unbelieveable - it's really how the other half live !!!!! And plenty of thanks go out to my longtime friend Bill Shurla for the transportation and tour .
This AM the temp is now at a friendly and sunny 76 degrees but rising fast with 52% humidity along with a 29.71 barometer reading and a final DA of just over 2100 ' with a slight sideways breeze .A fast day?? Nope - by the time we get out on the 1320 it'll be ugly for sure . Back a little later ........ |
Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
But it will be much faster there than Coloumbus which Baro is 29.1 and DA is 2900 ft CSI just suck it up and race. After all it is the same for everyone there!

Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Stock got their first qualifier in - but not without splitting it into two sessions - got halfway thru when we got a rain squall - and after an hour we got the second half in .S/S is about to run .
Post some pics after I download - with the storm service is terrible .Weather -90 degrees -43% -29.67 bar - 3042 DA Later ... |

Round two of Stock and S/S qualifying went well but the track had its moments because of the 130 degree track temperature.Made it interesting for the high horsepower cars ......

Good morning all - Whew !!! Like everyone else I'm glad yesterday is behind us as it was a scorcher for sure .I swear the diesel generators that were working overtime to keep us cool yesterday were louder than the race car engines- and it went on into the night hours - the humidity was high even as the temps dropped last evening .Today there will be less of that and is expected to be at least five degrees cooler - anything will help .
Today everyone will get one more shot at the New England 1320 before we start eliminations this afternoon and unlike other Lucas Oil races here in the Northeast we will race two rounds today in front of the Night of Fire crowd that will file into the stands . Less ballast today needed ?? You bet after a second night of lobster - GAS Racings' Tom Goldman and Kathy Purcell hosted their annual Lobster Fest last evening and if you went away hungry it was your own fault - and the local freshly caught lobsters did their part in making the deal a success . Thanks Tom and Kathy...... Lastly - pictured below is todays schedule that I'm told is written in stone and will not change . |
Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Stock just got their first and final hit - elims at around 1-2 this afternoon .Still very hot track surface with high HP cars having trouble getting off the line .S/S coming up soon ...sheets when available .

We've been down for about an hour - an alcohol dragster blew up at the finish line then got loose and hit the wall in the other lane .Driver is out of the car and OK but what a mess .Pro Mod and Super Comp plus S/S still have to run before we can start eliminations .
We have resumed racing but really behind ....... Below are final qualifying sheets for Stock and round one parings. |

Storm just hit - nothing big so far but right in the middle of the first round of S/S .So we're on hold .....
|
Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Here's the thing- we never did recover from the storm that hit this afternoon and funny things were happening .Cell phone service was acting weird - Internet was on and off - and forget watching TV .But anyway nothing happened on track since this afternoon and won't until tomorrow morning when they dry things out .All that and they expect another storm tonight in an hour or two from now .The place is dark right now with plenty of small lakes and mud - who saw this coming ???? The New England management along with the NHRA staff tried to hurry up the program but the storms in the end won out .
More in the morning ............ |
Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Good morning - What a difference this morning - blue skies with no clouds showing ,even a bit chilly this AM but welcomed after yesterdays heat wave .With all this the Internet has returned pretty much but the phone service is still erratic - maybe its a local thing .No matter what it'll be a great day for racing .Me?? After being on the wrong end of a double breakout deal yesterday I'm packing up for an early exit - maybe I can get home at a decent hour - tomorrow is a work day !!!!
Perhaps some of the locals can join in and post some results ....... |

Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
I think that may be Glen Hartzlers old car. '72-'74
|
Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Is the car not "NHRA legal" per the expert panel here?
|
Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
The car is a 72 340 car, they have it listed wrong on the qualifying sheet. Mike usually runs his 71 Challenger 383 combo. That's where the mix up may have come from. It is not Glen's old car. His car was bought buy a guy from Vermont and I think it may have been sold again. This car has been around d1 for a couple of years now. It could be a west coast car or a new one built by Mike and Tom. Tom was driving it last year. John Shaul may be involved in it also, I'm not sure though. It's beautiful just as nice as Mike's challenger, they do it right.

Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Does it matter anymore? I'm a purist, a Mopar guy from birth and if all '69 Camaros can't have cowl induction hoods why should a 'Cuda have an AAR hood if it's not legit, it just never happened. Sorry to offend anyone but that's my opinion and don't get me started about the "NASCAR Hemi" cars with the A990 scoops.
|
Re: Live from New England Dragway -NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Frank, you are right on that Nascar thing, but it also had the birdbath crossram which it has that dual plane thing that came 30 years later. Also had the 3 barrel Holley. Maybe an offset. Just thinking.
