ihra 1st division race updates?

I was wondering if anybody has updates from Capitol raceway this weekend? I've been stuck on a train to FL with piss poor reception, haven't heard anything.

Re: ihra 1st division race updates?

Because of weather related track conditions they got a late start this morning. The Jr.'s are running now, starting with the 1st Round of Saturday's race and then 1st Round of today's scheduled event.

They just announced that as soon as the track is safe for the "big cars" they will start Saturday's race with the ladder they built after qualifying yesterday. Sunday's race will be "random-pairing" with a possibility of "heads-up" races for both Stock and Super Stock.

More to follow...................................

major weeper problems, last i heard they have 5 hrs of racing , (low car count it sounds like 12 SS'ers & 23Stk'ers) and might wait for sunset to start up again.

My big question, 15 /20 years ago we didn't have weeper problems, is drainage problems that bad anymore or is it all the asphalt paved pits anymore, or what? Seems to be a BIG problem everywhere anymore.

Maybe the track surfaces are getting older and are deteriorating under ground? Jim

That's a bummer hopefully Ihra comes back next year . Fingers crossed car count will pick up, there's definitely plenty of cars in this area just look at tri state s/ss @ mason Dixon .

I just got back home, a short drive of 40 minutes! I would like to say the both IHRA and the crew from Capitol Raceway did every thing in their power to get this race off, but the torrential rain that we had on Saturday made the possibility highly unlikely! I hope that Capitol does not give up on this race next year. I believe that the car count would be much better, if the race was held either earlier or later in the year.

What was announced is that both races will be run at Capitol at a later date(s) and BOTH will be open to new entries. They really tried to fix the track but couldn't. Only went for Sunday and was disappointed not to even get to try out the track, but got to meet some new folks, so wasn't a total loss.

Re: ihra 1st division race updates?

Weepers are appearing more often due to the amount of track prep being applied these days. More rubber and "glue" are covering the racing surface causing fewer places for the water trapped in the asphalt to escape after a hard rain. The heat and sun during the day causes the moisture to percolate out of the porous asphalt and it can only escape were the rubber and glue allow an opening to the surface.

Serious props are due for John(IHRA), Jim Bradsaw and his Capitol crew for their effort to provide us with a safe surface to race on, just too much rain the night before to deal with. Looking forward to the rescheduled race and better conditions.

Saturday's race is a closed field....no new entry...Based on what we were told in the tower....

Hence the no refund....

Jim said he would post a date by the end of the week.
I believe they did everything possible to get the track 100% for us racers.
It rained so hard Saturday night it was like sheets of water coming down.
Parts of Ellicott City were totally washed away, just a short trip down the road.

Too bad about the rain and yes it did.
Saturday heading home traffic was backed up.
Way too many annoying people with their Flashers on.

Sunday more rain more annoying drivers with Flashers on Rt. 50 and I-495.
The main road on Rt. 301 was blocked by a couple hard crashes, stalled cars and standing water which cause cars to hydroplane.

But my day did not stop there.
My trans on the Caprice Wagon was failing.
Finally expiring completely 2 miles from home in Germantown, MD.
Pulled off on a bay entrance to Qualgen corporation.
AAA got the Wagon to Fourcade Transmission.
Cost $160 to get the trailer towed home.
Managed to get to sleep about Midnight.

Maybe should not complain too much.
These were Florida style torrential rains on Saturday and Sunday.
Ellicott City main street was a rushing river torrent.
Impacted couple hundred cars and two people getting killed.

Hope everyone had an uneventful drive home.

Dan

Don't take that as gospel, they told me the exact same thing at Farmington a few years back. Money talks and I will almost bet they allow new entries for both days!

I heard the announcement that the race would be open to new entries.

What I understand is Stock & Super Stock fields are set with no new entries for the Saturday rescheduled race. Rescheduled Sunday race will be open.

Not fair to open all classes but S/SS to new entries. I would try to make it back for 2 races but not 1.

Is anybody but me sick of the lack of communications that the IHRA has had with Sportsman racers under Mike Dunn? Jim

I went past that to just not caring anymore... which is really sad. Dunn has been MIA. There is no communication and no leadership.

Just saw in IHRA news there will be no reschedule , this sucks

Re: ihra 1st division race updates?

If that is the case, where is our refund? If IHRA wants anyone to show up at their races they need to take care of all racers.

Re: ihra 1st division race updates?

Racers in attendance with entry fees still at the facility will receive a refund returned by mail directly from Capitol Raceway.

In an effort to ease the loss of the claim for those who attended, Saturday and Sunday’s events at Carolina Dragway can be claimed as “In-Division” races for Patriots racers who were in attendance at the rained out event.

Way to go IHRA, Glad I didn't bother going!

I do not feel it is entirely IHRA's fault , but point the finger at Bradshaw of Capitol and o'Neil of IHRA , track has an open weekend on their schedule but is a wash now
