The good part of Indy now being closed, is that it closed with a grade one. Now if an opening is available a grade one or above can fill on a first come first serve bases. All this is assuming that all the former world champs wait until the the Monday the week of the race to enter, so Dan please don't forget.

Good luck to everyone going But I think in my opinion a car like mine is wasting time trying to get in. The new cars have taken over from the traditional stockers Its basically a new car dealership Pay To Play. Ok shots fired. NEXT

Free up that tire rubbing on the quarter panel and you're bound to pick up some.

Truly sorry about what happened to your car though. Good thing it happened where it did.

James, you don't get it, as long as I can get to Indy I plan on attending. It's about being there. You walk on this earth for a very short time, enjoy what you can. I know that I'll be holding up the bottom of qualifying, enjoying every moment and also, I'm there.

Always wanted to run Indy but best my old car could run was .80 under so didn't see the sense in going with such little chance of making the 128 field. There's always next year though and it's moving higher on the bucket list!

Wouldn't be terribly surprised if they raise the quota again...Indy is an amazing experience and they know it, besides they won't have to contend with many more than 128 anyway after Thursday (plus the few that may stick around for a potential alternate spot).

It's at 183 now; hopefully the NHRA will increase the quota to 200.

My biggest regret of my years of racing was not participating at the "Big Go".

I encourage everyone to do it at least once.

Why? At grade 1 everyone had a chance to enter. Adding more entries at this point only hurt the racers as its that many more people that won't qualify.

If they raise the quota Its just a money grab,, If you cant run a second under AT INDY You are wasting time, Indy is THE MOON and they have plenty of Modern Rockets and Space ships entered. No room for and antique model rockets Good Luck to all

When it went to Grade 1 on Wednesday; there were 163 entries which left only 17 available spots. I am quite sure that there were considerably more than 17 cars that wanted to enter; but for whatever reason, were unable to be among the first 17. For the last 2 years, the quota for Stock and Super Stock was 200, why should this year be any different?

The NHRA money machine is missing out on entry fees, especially with no afhs this year.

I'm with you on this James, in my case I would be a good tenth short of making the field and I never was much for doing something just to say I did it.

With only 1 grade pt they knew they were taking a chance of possibly not getting in. I know the quota has been 200 before but it's also been at 180 several other years. The guys that said it's a money grab by NHRA are exactly right. By opening up another 20 spots you're putting 20 more guys on the outside looking in and making the week that much worse for them too.

My nephew brother and I have raced @ Indy in the past w/ 3 different cars. Donated for the most part, got in the Elim. once and enjoyed the experience. Knew going in that Stock morphed into a checkbook class but wanted to play anyway. Now Indy is completely not feasible for us anymore, we'll keep at it but..........

Agree with you James. Although, the new car count is down to 57 cars this year. Most will get in the top half. Nice to see nhra out in the open.

I can appreciate everyone's opinion on this, but for me it isn't about saying I had done it, it was a matter of the experiencing the greatest event of Stock/Super Stock drag racing. The best of the best. Win, loose or not even qualifying it's the pinnacle of the sport.

Re: Stock at Indy almost full!

Ditto Frank. It's still the Big Show. Always been the Big Show. You see friends you don't see anywhere, and it's a Big Show. If you don't want to even try to get in, then borrow a car, steal a car, cheat (an extra hundred cubic inches will normally work), or you can drink beer with Capt Jack, Bigg and myself. That's worth the price of admission. One half cup nitro in the pan is worth 3 or 4, a full cup puts the rods and the pistons at an exit point. Or you can drink beer with the aforementioned and Roy Hill. Stories abound, most are true. That is worth twice the price of admission.

Bernie don't forget to remind Dan F to get in Indy. You do remember Dan F, the racer everyone wants to beat but not many enjoy him in the other lane.

I know of 4 guys headed from California and only one of them is a FS car. They all feel they will qualify. Make us proud.
