Re: Don Himes
Oh No ! ! I hate hearing this. Don was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He loved this sport but I think he loved being around the people in it more. What a great laugh and sense of humor. Glad I was considered a friend. God speed Don from a fellow Pontiac guy. Danny

Re: Don Himes
Very sorry to hear this. Agreed with what many people have said. Don and my dad are hopefully enjoying a beer or cup of coffee and reminiscing on the good old days of S/SS racing. Prayers, thoughts and condolences to his friends and family. R.I.P. Don.

Re: Don Himes
Rip Don. Condolences to Linda.
I agree, Ron. "Attitude". He could bust 'em with the best of them. Don drove a Pepsi truck. He could make you feel 1/2" tall if you were drinking a Coke. |

Re: Don Himes
Really sad to hear. Don was a good guy, always a pleasure to hang out with. If I'm not mistaken he might have been to one to bestow the "Zippy" nickname on me during the period of time I drove one of Billy's cars. You will be missed Don.

Re: Don Himes
Don was a good friend of my friend/early mentor, Ron Sanders. I heard some funny stories. When he heard I was racing, he sought me out at an IHRA event we were both participating in, to introduce himself and wish me luck.
Decent human being. We've lost a good one. |
Re: Don Himes
I was lucky enough to have known "The Don" since the very early 70's. He became a great friend over the years and a tremendous source of humor. Always a character and never a dull moment. Glad that Soupy and I flew down a couple of weeks ago to see him. Linda, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will miss him. RIP, my friend.

Besides racing with him here in Div.1 me and Billie went to Gainesville twice and met him there. The Don was always good for a laugh or two. RIP.

Re: Don Himes
Donnie will be missed by all who knew him. He ran out of our shop in Vineland for many years before him and Linda headed South to Florida and we would see him when he came up for the Dutch every few years. He always had a great sense of humor and would always bust the waitress chops when we went to lunch every Saturday at a little Greek place called the Olympia cause they only served "Coke" products and not Pepsi. I'm glad that my Dad was able to get down to Florida in Feb. to see him and spent the day with him and Linda. RIP Don, you will be missed.
