Big Chief DQ

Why???

Re: Big Chief DQ

Being that he did get an e.t., I would say his DQ would be either too light or wrong fuel.

He's got 3 more chances between today and Sunday!

Just curious, is that thing legally tagged?

(as a street car)

Billy Pires 09-03-2016 02:19 PM

Re: Big Chief DQ

It's not 'illegal street racing', it's 'undocumented drag racing'.

Tell us how you really feel. There ain't a single person here would dream of taking a non performing car to INDY. Pure embarrassment. It took me five years of working on my pile before I thought I could hold my head up at Indy. Not be embarrassed to spend all that money, make that long trip. At five years I thought I could. I think I finally ended up # 92. A lot of time and work and it paid off. This guy goes to Indy with a car that has NO chance of winning. What NHRA promo guy told this guy going to Indy "would be great!"

Really. Stopped hating. If you read his post. He said it's a dream and a privilege to be racing at Indy. And yes he knows he doesn't have Snowballs chance in hell to make the field. So get over yourself Bruce. Nhra should take a lesson from these guys they get attention unlike the Pros. Who are to corporate to pay attention to the fans. These guys are like the old funny car racers when I was a kid. They show up make some noise and get a pay check. Tee shirts pay the bills.

Good post Jim!
Feel same way. Love Big Chief passion.
He was there running what he had and gave his all.
Plus it was street legal!

As for me Started running Stock in 73 in a 1964 Impala SS 4sp with 250000 miles on it.
Got no closer that 3 tenths off the National Record but I ran with the big boys.
Kenny Koonce, Marianian Brothers, Gene Jordan, Tex Miller and others.
Managed 3 Ru and even won one. But learned a lot.

Big Chief will be back. Hopefully with a little more muscle.
I am rooting for the young buck!

Yes, Bruce..that's how we think , but you don't know how many Franklins changed hands in this whole deal.
Embarrassed? I doubt it.

No grade points for pro mod. He knew he couldn't run with the big boys. Its not about that for him. Its just being there.

ps after t shirt sales , he might be able to buy 6 tenths

it was probably cheaper to enter a class like pro mod than to pay a 3-5 day spectator ticket.....

Re: Big Chief DQ

Selling anything is prohibited I believe without a contractual agreement with NHRA during their events. Selling Tee shirts is probably a no-no...

Warren Evans 09-03-2016 10:11 PM

Re: Big Chief DQ

So on that first run I understand he just bypassed the scales and fuel check, since he knew the run wouldn't make the show. He certainly did not embarrass himself so far this weekend, has handled himself professionally and from all accounts, understands exactly where his program is compared to the rest of the field. He's not last on the qualifying sheet and making gains every pass. And... the crowd around his pit area is probably bigger that any other racer on the property. I heard that traffic control had to assist him just to get to the lanes for Q2.

Bruce Fulper 09-03-2016 10:15 PM

Re: Big Chief DQ

Total embarrassment. 100%. There's one simple thing about a drag race. Winning. Most of us don't live for hype. Screw that excuse. We don't enter events or Classes we know we CANNOT win. We build cars to hopefully win. Period. I don't give a crap about anything else. T-shirt sales, (Which you cannot do at NHRA events.) So that's out. Anyone worth their salt races to do one thing ~ WIN A DRAG RACE. This guy is like the kids on the losing ball team who all get a trophy. When he gets a real bullet maybe then he can compete.

How many national events have you won, Bruce? The same amount as the guy in question.

The only difference is HE is there, right now, giving it all he's got.

I would believe that was the whole point of being there. I would think that he might have out sold gas monkey and force combined.

So Bruce, how's the Matador wagon doing that couldn't go fast if you dropped it off the Empire State building? Stay with Pontiacs and leave the AMC's alone.
