"Live" from the Dutch Classic
This will be our first. Class, FS/XX (maybe the first Seven second by a stocker), FS/X for the slower 8.50 cars, a shoot out or two, and the Shady Maple, life is good. Almost forgot recording setting Thursday and Friday, with P.C. Richards and Gold Rush helping in a big way.
So If you are a fan of Class racing this is the one not to miss. If the weather will be good records will fall, get the popcorn it should one heck of a show! Already seen in the pits was a self check to make sure the car would pass tech with flying colors |

Re: The dutch classic
Larry forgot to put "Live" from the Dutch Classic and I can't change the title, but this is "Live"!!
Just a few pictures mostly from yesterday out riding in the countryside. I forgot to take my camera, so these are just cell phone pictures. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/516.jpg This was actually from a couple of days ago when the sun finally made an appearance! http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/517.jpg This is inside the Shady Maple. The next picture explains who carved it. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/515.jpg http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/520.jpg http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/521.jpg This is a Menonite church in Goodville. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/518.jpg The view behind the church--cemetery and farms. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/519.jpg http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/522.jpg Taken from up on a ridge overlooking the farms. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/523.jpg http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/524.jpg An Amish horse and buggy in front of us on the road. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/525.jpg http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...6%20PA/526.jpg This is at the Walmart in Morgantown. A covered area with hitching posts for the horses and buggies! The countryside surrounding the track is just beautiful. All of these little winding roads with a dozen different ways to get to the track. Very different looking houses up this way, too. Lots of 2 and 3 stories which look like they have been here forever! If you get a chance, it is a very interesting trip just to admire all the barns and houses! |

What about a young man from Fultonham NY., John G. Shaul, is he there?

Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
There will be another reporter at the Dutch - I drove in from Michigan today and just dropped the trailer. The last time I raced here was the 1992 Keystones. It's great to be back.
Here's a shot of me from 1974 at the Grove. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psbdks7syj.jpg Still lots of space in the pits. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psytanpu20.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psdwibhbnu.jpg |
Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
A big thank you to all the guys that helped us get our trailer ready for the trip home. The track was kind enough to allow the freight truck in so we could offload the axle at the trailer. The axle will go in their scrap pile and should be recycled. Again Thanks.
Mike it looked like you flat towed here years ago. Is that Alan Reinhart's future car in the background? Now lets get back to why we are here, Records, no AHFS, racing, fellowship, eating, adult beverages, and some big time fun. It will be fun to watch racers defend their record while other racer are trying to make the record there own. Of course the buzz in the pits is who and if anyone will go in the seven's. Air is 50.3 degrees, 92%, 29.73 barometer as of 6:29AM. I will let ya'll do the math, I have already put my socks and shoes on. |
Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
Larry, yes I think most of us started with a tow bar. I still remember "moving up" to tow hubs - and no more crawling under the car to pull the driveshaft. And the tow vehicle was a short box Chevy pickup with a 455 Olds swap. It would smoke the tires from a stop with the car in tow. We've all come a long way.

Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
Yes it is 50 degrees this am here at Maple Grove. The morning fog is covering the hills around us. It promises to be a nice day with temps into the 70's. We arrived just 10 minutes before parking closed at 8. There is some fun and many stories in store, stay tuned or better yet, get here.

Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
Do stock and super stock run first round on Sunday morning? I have to work Friday night and Saturday but was thinking of making two hits Friday and coming Sunday for eliminations.

Chris is on his way. After all that rain last week he is looking forward to some sunshine. Check out his interview at NHRA stories on NHRA.com.

Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
Those folks looking at that axle are Axleers which Webster describes as "Those that would exaggerate current happenings to one another". Applies to Racers, Hunters, Fisherpersons, Quilters, Cooks, and other competitive activities. And the term Highway Dept. Workers comes to mind, just can't tell who is the boss. Probably the big guy.

Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
Quick update on the quest for the first 7 second run Skinner 8.18, Holbrook 8.16, Barton 8.11.

Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
In the past, the Amish girls, in their long dresses and bonnets, would come out and have a picnic on the hill behind the starting line. They might not have owned the devil’s contraptions, but they liked to watch them! (I think they want to see the first Stocker in the 7's, too.)
|
Re: "Live" from the Dutch Classic
I believe David Barton just went an 8.10 , it is about 73 degrees
