$50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

Just a note on this past weekend's $10K/$50K/$10K Jegs/BTE World Footbrake Challenge at Bristol. Thanks to all the Stockers that came out to support the race. Total of 320 cars on Friday, 290 on Saturday, and 335 on Sunday! Stockers in attendance: Lee Zane (K/SA Apollo), Randall Campbell (R/SA Chevy Truck), Jamie Southards (I/CM Duster), John Boyer (I/CM Malibu), and Todd "Bones" Ewing (D/SA Camaro). Also saw a blue Chevy II with SS/JA on it, but had a 355 in it - can't recall the name, I'm afraid.

Congratulations to all the finalists...
Friday $10K
Win - Chris Plott
R/U - Luke Bogacki

Saturday $50K
Win - Scotty Richardson
R/U - Luke Bogacki

Sunday rained out after 2nd round. Everyone still in got $170.

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

Michael

Thanks for the info on this race. Did you race?

I didn't see any "rules" on the flyer I read, so I have a few questions.

Is it really a footbrake race, or is it just a bottom-bulb (no-delay-box) race? Must they launch the car off the foot brake, or can they still use buttons? Also, what about 2-steps, throttle stops, transbrakes and automatic shifters?

I hope that it was old-fashion racing with nothing more hi-tech than a tach.

Thanks.

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

This was really a footbrake race. Just air/electric shifters allowed.

I had pre-entered for the race, but then the promoters asked if I would announce for the event. So, I announced all weekend, and gave my entry to Jason Weaver, a multi-time champ from Beaver Springs Dragway in PA. He paid off the entry and made both of us a little money on top of that. :) Be glad that Weaver hasn't gotten a S/SS ride yet!

Y'all missed an absolutely spectacular event. The World Footbrake Challenge just took over the top slot from the US Class Nationals on my personal list of the greatest events of all time (that I've been to). They'll be announcing the 2008 event details in a couple of months.

Why would you accuse someone of that if you arent going to mention their name. Im calling you out to tell us who you are talking about or your post will go down as another person who cries for no reason.

Sorry bud! Wasn't sure what class you were running. :D ;)

How about Tim Griffith, Anthony Fetch and Bud McNasby? They all have run Stock in the past, although they had their bracket cars there this weekend.

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

Stock and Super Stock racers take note. The 2008 World Footbrake Challenge will be held at Bristol Dragway the weekend following the national event there. It will be Memorial Day weekend (May 23rd-25th) and it will be the single largest bottom bulb cash payday in the world. No buttons of any kind will be allowed on the wheel and no rev limiters as starting line enhancers (except for stick cars). All of you great bottom bulbers know where to leave without the button anyway and we look forward to having some of the great class racers attend the event. For more information on this great race , call 205-612-3502 , 662-837-8166 or simply go to www.worldfootbrakechallenge.com. We hope to see some of you in Bristol.

The competition was nuts down there this year. I watched all day Saturday, and it was very impressive.

Check me on this Michael, but I do believe the worst winning reaction time at 8 cars was like .005 or .006, around there.

What if we do a 100.00 to enter 100% payback gamblers race on Friday after like 7th round of the race. Ill bet I could talk to Jarad and make it happen. Email me if you are interested I know 3 already that are in.

Worst winning reaction time .005/.006...Man I thought you footbrake guys couldnt be competitive aginst a button. Only button guys can cut lights like that! Or maybe.......stocker guys can take advice from the bracket guys. It only proves that gettin rid of the button wont make a difference!

Speedracer 10-25-2007 09:22 AM

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

Can you enter the "Footbrake Race" with your Stocker if you have your two-step button mounted on the brake pedal per 2008 NHRA rules,or is this still not considered Footbraking?

>> Man I thought you footbrake guys couldnt be competitive aginst a button.

Don't look at me. I've noted on several occassions that I've whacked my share of Box cars over the years. That doesn't mean that Stock should allow delay boxes. I think the World Footbrake Challenge showed that it's not so much Footbrakers crying about 2-steps, but 2-step guys crying that they can't race without them! Props to Lee Zane and the other scant few that bothered to show up to support one of the best races ever contested.

>> Can you enter the "Footbrake Race" with your Stocker if you have your two-step button mounted on the brake pedal per 2008 NHRA rules,or is this still not considered Footbraking?

2-steps are not permitted. I'm sure you could just disconnect the button, but double-check with Jared Pennington or Steve Stites, the race promoters.

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

And 'oh by the way' even Scotty Richardson was nothing but .040's for the first four rounds on Saturday of the WFC. Bogacki was stuck in the .030's until the late rounds Friday night. Lee Zane *started* going Deep on *Sunday* (and had three double-oh's in a row then... but of course they don't allow deep staging in Stock anymore...)

There were a lot of great lights in the late rounds, and that's the stuff people remember, but I was announcing all weekend. I can tell you that almost the entire field struggled mightily with the tree. Just a hunch, but based on what I was seeing out of drivers that I know well, seemed like the rollout was about .03 loose from what most people were used to. I'd say Chris Plott probably had the best average over the course of the weekend.

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

Racers , we are getting very close to the amount of pre-entries needed to make the WFCII happen. They have been very steady today but we need a good day tomorrow. Don't forget that the deadline is midnight April 1st so we still have 27 hours to take entries. Who will be the racer to step up and put us over the top? Will it be you? Don't let the media stop you from coming to this great race. Enjoy Memorial Day weekend in beautiful Bristol , Tennessee at "The World's Greatest Footbrake Race". Take the easy ride home on Sunday night and rest on Monday before returning to work. The sponsors are lined up , the cash is waiting , the track and weather will be perfect and the racing will be insane. If you plan on coming , save the money and pre-enter. You won't regret it.

Come on "classers" stay over from the national event and enjoy the absolute best bottom bulb race you have seen.

Jared Pennington 04-01-2008 09:09 PM

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

Today was a very tough day for the WFCII. We did not receive any pre-entries by phone or mail. Steve and I did talk to several people that we trust that said the check is in the mail. With what we have in hand and what is coming in the mail , that we know , we are at 97 pre-entries. As you all know , that is well short of the 125 needed to have the event. Steve and I are not promoters. We are "good ole boy" Footbrake racers that love this sport and the racers that make it up. We do not have the disposable income to hold an event like this with a guaranteed purse without pre-entries. Last year's success had us believing that we would get all that we needed to make the event happen again but we were wrong. With that said , we believe that people will come if we just man up and have it. We don't know if 10 more or 100 more will show up but we know there is only 1 way to find out , so .........

Coalburg Racing Promotions is proud to announce that the 2008 JEGS/BTE World Footbrake Challenge is officially on. Steve and I have decided to take the risk of our lives and make the WFCII an official event. We are forced to make a change or two in the way that we put the event on but it will be seamless to the racers as it applies only to the small details of the event. The purse is 100% guaranteed and that will not change at all. We can't afford to do some of the things that we did last year such as water in the lanes , internet updates , free RFM's and some other small things. We can assure everyone that you will get paid whatever the flyer says you are owed and that is really the main thing that we must do as the event promoters. In doing this , we feel the necessity to open pre-entries up until May 1st. We still need help to make the event get to the level that it went to last year. We know you great racers will get us there. We are scared. We are nervous. We are fat .. at least one of still is . But , we are confident that more racers will come forward and enter this race and help us make it great. Tell everyone that you know .. or at least the one's that will care , that the WFCII is on. Thank you to those that have pre-entered and gambled on us. We appreciate it very much. See y'all in Bristol.

Hey Racers,

How would you like to be a part of the 2008 World Footbrake Challenge for only a $60 investment? London Dragway in London, Kentucky is going to give one lucky (talented) racer that chance. On Saturday night, April 26th, they will hold a 16 car shootout for a weekend entry into the WFC. Entry fee is $60 with the winner receiving a free weekend entry to the '08 WFC and the runner-up will receive $100. This will be a pre-entry deal and it is expected to fill up fast. Racers can enter by check, money order, or credit card. To reserve your spot today please contact Craig Boone at 606-877-3188.

Re: $50,000 World Footbrake Challenge

Racers , only 41 days until the Footbrake race of the year rolls in the gates at beautiful Bristol Dragway. Pre-entries are being accepted until May 1st. The race is on and it is GUARANTEED.

Don't miss this race folks. The purse is the largest guaranteed purse ever for a footbrake only event. You start winning money with a 3rd round win. 1st round only buybacks. On-site showers so you can stay at the track. The month of May is arguably the best weather month for the Northeast Tennessee area. Round prizes. Cash prizes. Not a bad parking place in the house. Clean restrooms for your family. Great promoters (tried to slip this one in) :D. Footbrake only. No dragsters taking YOUR time. Great racing and an electric atmosphere. Come join the fun. See y'all in Bristol.
