Decking block

is it legal to zero deck a lt1 350 for stock eliminator? If not how much in the hole do I need to leave the piston.

I doubt it...nhra/ihra have that spec. & required head gasket thickness listed...

Re: Decking block

Total deck with gasket IIRC is .062"

If you had a zero deck you'd need a .062" thick gasket....

That's for a late model EFI LT-1...

The old LT-1's probably have a total deck number that would not be safe to run.....

And with the way that a head gasket usually overhangs the bore, the hot lick is to use the thinnest head gasket that you can and more negative deck.

I guess THAT didn't come out right.
And the way the head gasket usually IS LARGER THAN THE BORE IN DIAMETER, ETC.ETC.ETC.

You want to order the gasket bore size AFTER you do the valve job...in the new NHRA.

I know that sounds like it's right, but for some reason if I run zero deck, the motor is a few horse better then when running the piston down in the block to get the same compression. Maybe it's just me.

That's what I meant by "Really?!?" I have the same experience.

Go with what you know. As long as it comes up legal. I used to do those Wissota 2 barrel 9.5 to 1 compression things in B mod, and the zero deck motors were about 9 to 11 better then the 0.030 down motors. Just what I found out. Take it for what it's worth.

Surprising. Same .062" squish, I'm surprised it helps to do it that way. Old as I am, I ain't seen everything yet. LOL

Don't know why, and ain't smart enough to tell you why. It just is what it is. Seen it about 3 times.

Good to know, Randy. Guess Cometic would make gaskets to do that. Been running mine with .030" gaskets, and .033" in the hole.

Yes, we've ran some 60 plus gaskets many times.
