72 pontiacs+ 12 HP

I see NHRA added 12 HP to 1972 Firebirds with 455-Ram Air.Good run by Scott Burton, but it cost him! Too bad it wasn't between a couple of F/S cars!

Re: 72 pontiacs+ 12 HP

Actually it was Brad's car. He went 1.208 under in the 2nd round. Had he gone 1.199 he wouldn't have gotten horsepower - .009 cost him 12 horsepower - WOW.

Ouch! That's a hard hit!

Ram air hood 352 hp. non ram air hood 335 hp. Is hood worth 17 hp?

Re: 72 pontiacs+ 12 HP

Question here.
So if that car is running f/sa. Will the index be lower or just that combo will have horsepower added. So let's say a vechicle that fits in f/sa will not have to worry about him running to fast.

Re: 72 pontiacs+ 12 HP

He can run F/SA with both. RA car is still D,E,F, car.

Tom, I'm thinking Ram Air maybe worth it if everyone had to run factory air cleaner assembly.

Curious weight wise is the scooped Ram Air hood fiberglass rather than steel?

Yes, but not any lighter...May be a touch heavier.Thick material...Not racing fiberglas.

And runs the same. Tested mine with the scoops taped up, identical times. Gets enough air over the radiator. Logger showed the same manifold air temps.

The "issue" with the non Ram-air will be hood clearance over the carb..

Non-Ram Air Formula has a similar hood, but the scoops are blocked off . Clearance is the same .

How well does it fit SS?

From everything I've heard he will still be bad a** fast so he might save the hood swap for the next time he takes a hit.
On a side note I went out to the shop and put my RS hood on and realized I was still slow!

OOps, I'll blame it on old age, I wasn't thinking of the fresh-air hood. And I had one!
