Thanks, NHRA..Easier to Quit

I see our local race is full, with 60 cars and three grade points.
They've got it down to 6 rounds now, so they won't have to deal with so many of those PITA Stockers on Sunday. (The root of the sport, I might add)

An association FOR the racers would know that a quota of 75-80 for this particular race, would accommodate most of the local racers with 1-2 gp's, that would want to go.
But no! ....No telling who they are for now.

I thought about building an NHRA car again...for about 5 minutes.
It now takes 5-6 gp's to get into the only Class race out here, which is still 300 miles away.
Six LODRS races! You other working guys can do the math.
No thanks!

I really hope the Hawk Boys do well this weekend. Also hoping not many of you get drawn off for that grade point thing.
These type of events just might the only place for most of you to race...soon.
I said this 10 years ago. What do you think now, boys?

Ever considered building a jet-car? Just a thought.

Mark, couldn't get in Gateway Nat'l last year after attending 4 yrs. in a row. Two grade points weren't enough, had a lot to do with selling car, if I do it again will not attend any Nat'l events.

Each person needs to align their priorities with the rules in place. If you really want to run Phoenix and Vegas, you'll find a way. If you don't, that's OK too.

Alternatively, you can just SAY you really want to and find a message board to cry on.

Just think what they entry fee would be! They have to make up for the displaced sportsman cars, about 80 cars family and friends and the money they spend vs. the added attendance the jet cars bring (maybe 0) minus the insurance risk and track prep. I think they have trouble in math.
I have a hard time believing more than a handful of people would say "Hey let's go spend a $100 bucks at the races because they added 4 jet cars"

I'm not sure why you addressed me with that statement, but it is an honorable one. Seems like a good personal policy.

Sorry Mark, they will have Tru-Start waiting for you.

Mike Graham, "Ever considered building a jet-car? Just a thought."
So is that why your car is so fast, just a thought.

Lenny5160, "Alternatively, you can just SAY you really want to and find a message board to cry on."
Tried to cry to NHRA, they sent me to this message board.

Lets say you are going to a race and it will cost you $500 overall. How many rounds do you need to win to break even. (We are not including the fun factor)
Or..... you could buy $500 in lottery tickets, stay home for the weekend, and see what your winning are. Just saying.

Mark,
Back in the early seventies didn't most guys race locally and attend a WCS race or two and maybe a National event and where happy to do so?
Maybe that's the way to go again and I hope it is.

Re: Thanks, NHRA..Easier to Quit

In the past you had to attend at least one points race just to be sent a national event entry. You sent it in and waited to see if it was accepted. If you did not attend many points races your entry might be returned, declined along with your check. Had it happen to me even after winning at the national level. They used to usually accept 100+ cars at the time and I didn't run many points races around that time. Yea I was disappointed but it was and is their ballgame.

The NHRA format and grading system is one reason IHRA was so appealing to many racers. They welcomed all :) and I hope it continues to be a healthy alternative, show up with your stuff in order, you race.

all you guys got it wrong, half hour of work the exhaust is bolted back on my stocker and away I go !!!! back and forth to work etc. this has been going on for a long time with nhra . that's why I don do many nhra races and go to association races. I also don't like three to five days away from work and my family.

Don't worry, Jimi. NHRA is going to shorten up the events some.
It's for your own best interest, don't ya know.

Mark,....Sorry to hear that you are walking away from the sport that you truly love .Unfortunately, all things change and the NHRA landscape has changed drastically over the years. You will forever be remembered as the FWD champion at Englishtown....carry on my friend.....

Totally irrelevant to the topic , but at the last nat, event I ran at they had 11.5 , 10.0 , & some other index classes that ran . Do they have a quota ? Or is it a 12 car field and #13 goes home on the ladder after paying the entry fee .They have no grade point deal only local track bracket race points .

Ken, The excuse that they gave was that they want to get "New Blood" into the Stock/Super stock ranks!

They're adding Top Fuel Harley to "select events" this year as well.

They have yet to grasp that whenever an effort is made to attempt to be everything to everyone, it ends up being nothing to anyone.

Where was that? I wish E-Town would do it for 10.00 but no............ :(

They did it for Street ET and 11.50 Index.

This year will have the top 8 from Pro and Bike/Sled.

Trying to show people other types of racing I guess.

I would do it just for the fun!

The grade point system is ridiculous. I would never do it myself, was trying to help a friend get his car into our local National Event but it is now for sale.

I honestly wouldn't care to run at a National Event. But, if my car fit a class and I didn't have the spend $325 or whatever to enter, and pay $55 for a shot at $500, I'm-in! :)
