Galot
I saw the D2 posting about the Apr 7-9 at Galot. It says all classes will be run at
1000' except for Comp, STK, and SS. What is this all about? Is Comp, STK, and SS running eighth mile? Dan Foley SC 4698 |
Re: Galot
Yes they will run 1/8 mile. I assume it has something to do with indexes as to why they're not running 1000'.

Re: Galot
I wonder why not run SC, SG and SST at 1/8 mile also.

Re: Galot
My guess is because car count was terrible last year. So bad the race was completed on Saturday. On Friday we started 2 hours late got 4 time runs and was done by 2pm. The forecast was terrible but never rained and was hotter than you know what. But heard lots stayed home because of 1/8 mile. Awesome facility.

Re: Galot
Are the scoreboards at 1/8 mile? Sure would be weird driving past the scoreboards to get to the finish line. I'll bet there will be some issues with someone lifting at the wrong stripe.

Re: Galot
Again this year this evenly will run 1/8 mile. Again this year will have a dismal turnout. What's wrong with 1/4 mile recing? If the participants and down again this year, someone is trying to tell you something.

Re: Galot
I was thinking the same thing when I saw that the race at Empire is going to run eighth mile, sure you will get the IHRA die hards but you're not going to draw the NHRA racer's that run quarter mile everywhere else. Why is it so hard for the higher ups to figure out?

Re: Galot
Score boards are probably at the quater mile or atleats pass the thousand foot Mark. I say give it a few years and the track will diffently be a full quarter mile with plenty of shut down.
|
Re: Galot
Just by a quick check on Google Earth I think it has a total length of about 3200 feet.

Re: Galot
Its a real nice place, and I mean real nice place to race. With it being 1/8 mile no AHFS.
Spring time records always smell the best. |
Re: Galot
I like running quarter mile as much as anyone but unfortunately it's not possible at this time to do so there at this time. Mr Wells went over and beyond to build a first class race track for us to race on so I will show my support to him by going to his track as long as he has this race. Alot of people complain about having somewhere nice to race so I'm not going to let 1/8 mile be an excuse for not showing up.

Re: Galot
This facility might possibly be one the best places to run on the east coast. Yes it is 1/8 mile, but somehow this is not a problem for the 200k PDRA racers cars and pro mods going mid to high 3's in the 1/8 that fill the place for the countless pro mod shootout races and PDRA events. To me 1/8 mile means less wear and tear on your car and yes being crisp on the tree is much more important. I'm lucky enough to be close enough to use this track as my test facility and even on test n tune nights the track is run top notch! With tracks closing all over, tracks being run down, lack of facilities available for racers and fans....you have a track that has invested millions, with MANY improvements to come, and heck even an air conditioned restaurant that you can sit and watch the runs......sounds to me like a place I'd gladly give my money too , to keep investing in our sport and have a top notch place to run at........people flock to ZMAX, and "he" could care less about the racer!!

Use to do Workers Compansation Insurance evaluation for several positions for Florida Power and Light. This was and interesting statistic! WC Insurance is 4 times higher for a worker climbing a 100 ft tower than a 300 ft tower! Galot tried to extend its track and did so with what they had. It ran out of space to effectively run fast cars at 1/4 mile events. Insurance requirements are out of sight. If this were 1980 different story. IMHO Galot should have stayed IHRA...this is one beautiful and safe track. An example other facilites should look at. Feel that NHRA marketing came up short. This includes not having a GT, Crate Motor and Pure Stock Classes. It definitely would have substantively improved the car count! |

Dan, I'm not sure 8 second stockers are ready to be put on a trailer by a 12.50-13 second stocker. Even though it would be pretty awesome. |

Sent NHRA an email my desire to sponsor a Pure Stock class with NHRA. Got a quick response from Eric Lotz NHRA Director, Field Marketing & Contingency. He thanked me and forwarded my email further inside NHRA. See where that one goes.. Dan |
