"Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

3 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

I know its only Wednesday, but in D1 most tracks open on Wednesday for parking. Tomorrow there is a test and tune from 12 to 6 pm. The weather for tomorrow and Friday look to be okay as far as rain goes, Saturday and Sunday is another story. Hopefully it will hold off long enough to get everything in. Tomorrow I am not testing so I will try to get some in car videos.

Hope the rain holds off I want to see some cars

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

The schedule doesn't list any tech happening Thursday. Is this true? With stock out at 8.30 am Friday, that doesn't leave much time to get teched in.

Ken how about a copy of the fastest time slips from: J. Boudreau, T. Hess, D. Ficacci, S. Gove, G. Richards, and anyone else entered in A/SA.

Inquisitive mines want to know.

Mike NHRA tech is open today. Larry, not sure how it will go over with the driver if I ask them for their time slip.

Dave Ficacci went a 10.05 at 130. Todd Hoven driving the Barton Carp Coronet went a 9.77 at 133. I'm not sure of the weights but I think they are at A weights. I have not seen any other A cars go down. Temps are In the low 80's. The DA is about 2500ft

Testing is over for the day. I did not get a chance to watch much racing today. I was a little busy work on a friends car. I did a video of Todd Hoven. I think his best run was a 9.76, Ficacci went a best of 9.94 at 132. Jim Boudreau went a 10.11 I believe. I was thinking that they were all at A weight, but Jims run seems a little off, so he probably was at B weight.

Tomorrow looks to be the best day weather wise, but that's not saying much, the forecast looks grim for the rest of the week.

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

From the video it looks like Carp car can go a little quicker. With the better weather today a .05 sec improvement would be conservative. It would be a treat for all of us to see the Carp car go some low 9.70's today.

Jim Bailey 04-21-2017 07:58 AM

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

I agree Larry ... especially if the Carp Car is at, or near A weight. We need a "scale" spy.

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

Good morning everyone. The sky's are clear and the temp is in the low 70's. I hoping the weather predictions are wrong for the day, and judging how nice it is right now they may be.

They just called Stock to the lanes. As far as weight goes on Todd Hoven, I was told that's classified info.

Jim Roberts Camaro is one of my favorite cars in all of stock. Great looking ride.

Stock just finished up their second qualifier. Super Street is up now followed by Super Stock's second qualifier. The plan is to go right into first round tomorrow and try to get it all done before the rains come.

I will be back with the qualifying sheet for Stock.

Ken Miele 04-21-2017 12:56 PM

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

Qualifying for Stock, Q2. Qualifying for SS Q1. Super Stock Q2 should run soon. They were supposed run after Super Street, but the schedule was changed. Comp, Top Class's are running now. SS should follow. Its in the upper 80's here with the DA around 2800ft.

The schedule shows 3 qualifying shots, no sign of rain.

Mickey in a Mopar? Guessing by qualifying #2 it's Johnny Fisher's car?

If there is a prize on the correct weight of the Carp car after the run at the scales, my guess is 3745#

Steve Hagberg 04-21-2017 03:30 PM

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

I'd guess you're about right on Larry. So that'd put it about 500 lbs. heavier than yours? Min. wt. for A/SA for the Carp car would be 3770.

Larry Hill 04-21-2017 03:51 PM

You know me Steve I'm just a long drink of water, so slim and trim. I have to put rocks in my socks to keep from being blown away when we go to Kansas.

Larry there might be a prize, but there is no way i'm going to be able to get that number. I talked to Todd, he said they are right were they need to be.

Random shots......today's Super Stockers. They just finishing up with cleans up runs, but for the most part we are done for the day. Firdt round tomorrow morning, no qualifying.

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

Mark Alvey takes his last qualifying shot in his Super Stock Camaro along side Dave Thomas in his Drag Pak Super Stocker. Mark was the winner at this race last year in Super Stock.

Johnny Fisher sold the Mirada last year. It is now owned by Johnny West out of Raleigh.

This morning started out with sun, but the clouds are rolling in fast. We are supposed to start 8:30. It rained a little last night, the weekend does not look good. Lets hope we get a few rounds in today.

More shots from yesterday.....

I missed the first two rounds of stock but caught the third, great show. Kinda bummed I didn't see any Duster-Demons and only one FStock, nice looking Nova. Maybe threat of rain keep most at home. First time I've seen the snowmobiles run, totally amazed. 149 mph on skis, couldn't pay me to get on that thing!

I think the sleds are much safer than a bike, but thats me. Now on a frozen lake, then across open water, well thats another story!

If you travel up to the grove in a few weeks, all of D-1 will be out. Plenty of dusters and demons, you might even see a Gremlin. RE the sleds, one word of sagely advice......don't pit next to them, across from them, or even sort of close to them......they need to be at WOT to tune, and those race two strokes are LOUD!

Re: "Live From" Virginia Motorsports Park

Super Street and Stock got their first round in before the rain started. Its not heavy rain, but enough to put things on hold. There is another strong cell moving through, but it might miss us. After that, the weather looks good for the rest of the day.

We had some down time this morning from a Stocker hitting the wall. Bruce Noland had a heads up in AA. His car left fine and was going straight. When it came down from the wheelstand it made a hard right and hit the wall. The throttle stayed wide open and he cross the center line and the left wall head on. We are not sure what went wrong, but a racer did see something come of Bruce's Corvette before it made the hard right. Bruce got out of the car and looked to be okay. The car on the other hand looks bad.

Glad Bruce is OK. Cars can be replaced, people not so much.

The cell did not miss us, its raining hard, we will be on hold for a while. The Corvette hit hard, not sure if it can be fixed, what a shame.

Finished Stock ,got one pair of Alcohol cars down the track and the rain came .
Looked like it might break for a while but its raining heavily right now and cooling off rapidly .
Looks like very little chance of drying anymore today. .....Now we are just waiting for the rain date announcement.

Word in the pits is that Bruce has a few cracked ribs and maybe a cracked sternum.
observation for concussion.
Could have been way worse as hard as he hit .
