Indy LODRS announcement

Keep a eye out on the DIV 3 website. They said they will make a announcement by noon tomorrow, due to the weather forecast.

It looks wet on Saturday with over an inch of rain in this forecast. Sunday not much better. I'm glad to see the new DD is thinking about the weather and the racers.

If this one washes out completely, what is the normal way the Division would make this race up? Go on into Monday thru whatever to finish it, or reschedule completely?

This just came up a minute ago-

"We are sorting through all optional scenarios if we were to cancel, postpone, or continue with the Ray Skillman Chevrolet Spring Spectacle of Speed as we write this. We know many of you are needing to know soon for travel purposes so we are working through all options to come up with an answer, and the next steps.

As you know, weather in Indiana is tricky to predict and we don't want to cancel if we can complete the event. We also don't want to host the event and have it spent sitting idle due to the rain that the forecasts are calling for.

Apologies for not having a definitive answer now, but we are working to release that as soon as possible."

Would someone please post the decision when ready? Hard to believe but I don't use FB on a regular basis and my password is at home. Also security on my work system won't allow me to access Div 3 website. Thanks!

50 per cent chance on Friday, 100 percent on Saturday, only 80 percent chance on Sunday......Makes sense to me......it never rains in Indy anyway.....LOL.....

I'm sure we'll see some folks at Norwalk to finish this event like last year. Good luck to all that's heading that way. I was ready to roll out tomorrow but not with that forecast.

You making the trip MJ?

Local weather reports say we will be in low pressure all weekend with over 1" of rain and possible flash flooding.

Saturday: 73% chance, 1+" rain daytime, 1+" rain overnight

Sunday: 75% chance, 1/2" rain

Have tractors ready to pull rigs out :-)

Buck has said for years that they should switch dates with Bowling Green - always rains in April at Indy and always way to hot in KY in August. Plus everyone would be there for Indy.

Now that just makes too much sense. :)

Rainfall update, 3-5" for weekend. The variation is between 100- 80% for Sat & Sun on local forecasts. Real problem is track schedule is full.

Carey,
The Buick GS Club Nationals used to be the first weekend in May at Beech Bend.
Almost always a very nice break from the retreating cold in a wonderful place.

Yep, the GS Nationals was for years ran on the first weekend of May @ Bowling Green.

But then all the rainouts happened in the late 90's-2004 or so and so they started looking for alternate dates.

I used to love the GS Nationals in early May but the weather @ Beech Bend can be iffy at that time of year

I live 4 miles north of the track and I'm not even going to load up.
Rain probabilities over 50 % usually means its going to rain here, I think the new Rookie DD made a bad decision to go with this event.

Re: Indy LODRS announcement

It's real easy to set on the side lines and say well he should do this and he should do that Chuck.
You all act like stilling in the rain is something new. One year we had to came back to IRP twice and still run finish the race at Columbus because our DD made bad decision after bad decision. and that was a DD with 20 plus years of so called experience.
You guys are kicking this new DD before he gets a chance to maybe actually better this div.

Re: Indy LODRS announcement

I have not been able to race much the last few years but I was planning on attending this event. I guess this dog will stay home and on the porch.

A little history for the youngin's on this site. Back about '75, '76, or' 77(too gray to remember), points meets were two days and included the pro's. On Saturday it was 60's and overcast but by midnight it started raining sideways while the temp's dropped. At about 10:00 Sunday, Bob Daniels met with the pro's to see what would work best for them as there were the other points meets, about 10 National events, and match races(the sportsman racer was back-seat even back then). The pro-stockers and funny cars pitted on the West Side with us. Around noon the tractors arrived to start pulling out the heavy, high-dollar chaparral trailers. Later that afternoon around Fort Wayne, those of us caravanning back to Michigan were pushing snow with the motorhomes. So yes, it does snow in Indiana in April.

I think it was that same year, we went to Edgewater three times to get the points meet in.

What a headache for a DD when the IRP and the sanctioning body have already scheduled events to work around. He is likely rolling the dice. When I go to mass Sunday morning, I'll pray for a dry track for those who go to IRP.

Re: Indy LODRS announcement

I'm guessing someone in Glendora placed a call to said new DD and said, "you know it sure would be nice to deposit $65k-$75k in the bank on Monday". When every meteorologist within a 200 mile radius is not talking about "if" it will rain, but rather "how much", it's probably a good idea to make alternate arrangements, especially when the facility is Indy. JMO.

You guys think NHRA give a crap about $60000. After payouts that's about $30,000 take home. Peanuts in the whole picture

For an organization bleeding money and that still has fixed costs...Yes! $60k in float for 2-4 months is a big deal. I oversee a $2B company and if you told me I could get $60k interest free I'd take it in a heartbeat. The opposite question would be if you think something like this wouldn't factor into NHRA's decision you've got your head in the sand.

I agree ! Get them there -- Get their $$ and worry about it later is the attitude of NHRA !
Saturday is projected to be a wash- So is Sunday . There are about 150 cars the as of early this afternoon.
