You wouldn't believe what I went through to find this out. Glad to pass it along! K&N Air Filter LT1 59-5020 http://www.jegs.com/i/K-N/599/59-5020/10002/-1

Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
Are you running it down track or just in the pits? On my sons 500 hp LS1 street car we lost 6 hp on the wheel dyno with the air filter on. Tom

Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
The reason for the loss is attributed to the permeability of the gauze media in question - approximately 80 SCFM per square foot at .5" w.g. In addition, the outlet configuration and resulting profile are poor.
Why are you considering the use of a filter? |

Nobile is one of the dirtiest pit areas I've encountered. Ennis is right there too. |
Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
Tulsa is also nasty if it is dry, worse if the wind is out of the north. Blows dust from that pasture looking area, used for pit space at points races, all over all of us. Ennis, a couple weeks ago, was not bad.
I put the damp shop towel on, pull it in the staging lanes just before getting in the car, put it back on at fuel check. Spent too much on expensive pistons, rings, and honing, for good ring seal to suck that crap through it. If it was just a bracket car, I would not have that kind of parts in it, would not be as big a deal to me. |
Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
I run mine all the the time except heads up runs ofcourse. 😀

Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
I run mine all the time on my Super Stocker. Had to put a little dent in it and tweak it to fit around the front drive distributor. Haven't noticed a difference with it vs without. But I don't make much HP.
If I tried Ed's towel trick, I'm sure I'd forget and leave it on. Not quite as old, but forgetful! LOL |
Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
Mark, is it a K&N or? Do you have a part #? Thanks.

I couldn't find a part number anywhere. Hopefully these help? A little crude, but it worked.

Thanks Mark!

Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
Check out K&N Air Filter RC-5004; I believe it's shorter.

Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
Thanks..... I found RU-5004 which is the plain version. They are dimensionally the same and both 3.5" long. Just right for keeping the debris out before and after a run.

Re: Question: K&N Air Filter for LT1
K&N has a custom build dept. I had one built for my car. It's basically a #5020 that is as long as I could get before it hit my radiator. Its about 6.5" long verses the 5020's 3". I also had only a single layer of filtration material used instead of multiple layers.
