Englishtown Rumor

Rumor has it again that the Knapp family has sold the track and the land and the buyers will honor the contract with NHRA till the end and then close and build houses.

Does anybody know if there is any truth to this??

As I recall, the track was first sold in 1976 and has been sold every year since.

Sell it, then move the race to one of those Indian reservations, they'll make money. Betting on each race and slot machine between each seat, now you got something to do between the oil downs and pre stage shenanigans. Everything tax free.

Didn't Vinny want to turn it into a waste transfur station if he couldn't keep it as his race track

Think he'll find out more than me? I've been working at RP for 17 years and I don't know anything about the rumor.

I've heard that every year for the last umpteen years, too. But, you've got to be prepared that one day it might be true.

I have no idea Vinny's age, I would imagine he's no kid, and you have to know that at some point he won't be or won't want to run it. With the issues they have there, everybody looking for him all the times with torches and pitchforks, fighting every year has got to get old. They were around when I raced there in the seventies and eighties, and that was 30-40 years ago.

You don't know about other family members, if they are interested in running the business or not. So, one day there will be a change.

I just hope not this year.

I don't know if it would be bad thing if this rumor were true.

Few times I've been to Englishtown the place was going down hill fast with very little or no maintenance/improvements.

ETown is a great facility and was a super track before there was such a term. It is run down some and has been repeatedly under attack by neighbors who move in way after the track was in operation. You go there sometimes on a Sunday and the drag strips are both running, the dirt bike track and practice tracks are humming, go carts are running and the drifting or road course is full of cars. It would be a huge loss to motorsports if the facility closed. This same rumor has been popping up for years and years. Hopefully it is just not true. I have been going there since 1966 !

Vincent Napolitano was the real deal, he loved the place and drag racing. The property is worth bookoo bucks and it's fate is obvious. Nothing last forever, but if the NHRA where legitimate, and it's not, they would cover their sorry asses and buy it to protect their "assets" in a major market. New York!

Don't think there's enough $$$ to satisfy all the cuts involved in the split. Not sure but I don't know if the property can be sold to continue as a racetrack. Besides, the curfew and noise restrictions make it impossible to run a constant flow of money making racing.
Between that and the changing demographics of the "new" racefans filling the seats is a challenge.
I raced there since 1977 (brackets then Stock since 1999) till I sold everything in 2010 and I guess I would miss the place.

Frank, I don't think anyone is ready to fork out the asking price. I was told by someone they gave out 10,000 free entry passes for one of the divisionals and less than 200 were cashed in. Does that tell you something?

Yes sir, that pretty much sums it up.

Re: Englishtown Rumor

Nothing heard about any sale by the airport.I am certain the town would just love a few hundred houses on 100'x100' lots, maybe a couple new schools to build, new roads, bigger police force, utility up grades, and the higher property taxes to pay for it all.I hope it never happens.I don't know about other areas, but where I am, you don't see much real estate sellling regardless of what you hear on the news. But, then look at the area near the track in Bradenton. In 1985 we were told the land east of the new I-75 would remain agricultural, look on Google Earth now, and it now looks like a giant train set village. John Kissel

Off the beaten' path here but, in my opinion, best event of the summer, was that once great Nostalgia event, pretty much ceases to be...:( :(! Too bad they couldn't work a "March Meet" thing like they do in Cali.
