Re: oldest setup in stock
Here in Div. 6, I first saw Jim Devines "Lemon Twister" 72 340 4 speed Duster in the late 70s, still looks exactly the same today, although he did (finally!) replace the factory style A833 4 speed transmision for a Jerico a few years ago.

Re: oldest setup in stock
Me and the Cuda have been joined at the hip 37 years and counting. Entered my first points race in a rental car and got beat badly by Gary Long's 428 Cyclone first round, but I did get a grade point.

Re: oldest setup in stock
How about Casey Miles 1969 Camaro Z/28. I believe he has owned and raced it in stock since 1970!
|
Re: oldest setup in stock
How about Ben Wenzel's '67 Z/28?

I believe the intent and focus of this thread was technology based and not how long a vehicle has been campaigned.

Re: oldest setup in stock
How about Paul Lindberg's 56 Chev. Built initially in 1970 and still running the same pair of WCFBs he bought over the GM parts counter new?

Re: oldest setup in stock
I believe Mike Cotton used to drive his G/SA 1973 Duster on dates with Paula when the car was new.

X2 for Casey's Z28, still runs the car with wipers and exhaust. Went 11.00 in Gainesville this year. Love that car and I'm a FFFFord guy!! Bret Velde 2003 SS/LA |

I don't believe Caltracks and split mono-leafs were around in the 70's..or the 80's ,for that matter. I would say Casey Miles, hands down. But wait..Is Tom Gould still racing his Corvair? |
Re: oldest setup in stock
Someone went a few rounds at the Rock a couple of years ago in a silver Corvair

Re: oldest setup in stock
Hey Mark. I haven't hung it up yet. I turned 81 in April and just renewed my license for 2 years. I still try to get out at least 2 times a year (Darlington and Rockingham). In 2015, I only made it to the LODRS race at Rockingham. Had the pleasure of meeting Larry there. Had a .000 in the second round and lost in the semi finals to a COPO and a .000. Still just and old guy having fun.

Re: oldest setup in stock

Bret Velde 2003 SS/LA[/QUOTE] Just curious, what do you mean by exhaust? Stock manifolds and single tail pipe? |

Jody, he runs full dual exhaust off the headers, mufflers and tailpipes out the back. very cool! Bret Velde 2003 SS/LA |
Re: oldest setup in stock
The 1970 Barracuda that Chad Langdon races today was originally put
together and started being raced in about 1979/1980 by his brother John. That's about 37 years or so. |
Re: oldest setup in stock
The wagon I have has been a race car since 1970.

Re: oldest setup in stock
No contest.....Ben Wenzel/Wenzel Bros. .....
Won Indy 1967 and still racing it today. Bought it new and it has never been anything but a racecar as far as I know... 302 4 speed always..... |

I`d bet Bill O`Connor`s Omni setup is pretty similar to when it first hit the track!

Actually , so is Polhill's set-up..Going on 30 years now. |
Re: oldest setup in stock
For those who don't know the car, I keep my 69 Camaro Z/28 street legal registered and insured with full exhaust out the back (turn signals, radio and wipers all work the way from the factory) so if I want to take it for a ride I can. When I was in New York, Friday night, I drove into the Bellmore train station for s**ts and grins. Engine, trans and gear ratio change, it could be a daily driver again. LOL!

Bob Mark knows the original builder of your car. After Ray sold it I bought it back for him a few years later for 1500 from the same guy he sold it to. It's a long story remind me when we see each other and I will tell you about it. Barry
