I assume you are referring to the Sportsnationals in Bowling Green. As always, it is contested on Memorial Day weekend and yes.....it is the same weekend as the Maple Grove points meet....

Ok, I assume that your correct, but I can't seem to find any information on it for 2018.

Mr. Derby City I hear you loud and clear! I was #45 in line at Bowling Green last year at the Sport Nationals and they wouldn't let me park on the asphalt!!! But there were S/ST cars parked on there!

Most of the time when you see a car like that parked on asphalt it’s because it came In a stacker with a top sportsman or top dragster. I don’t ever remember being parked on asphalt except for Englishtown lol.

Re: 2018 Sportsman Nationals

Just for the record: One S/ST was in a stacker with a S/C dragster and another one (66' Chevelle) was by itself.....

now the "Rest of the story"
I was helping parking (pouring rain again) and originally the whole asphalt parking was going to be T/D, T/S and major sponsored (Lucas, ect) cars and the Hemi shootout cars. I made a deal to give me the tree line to first come first serve as you know there is not 45 spots back there. This year it might be only TD=TS only for asphalt, I have no clue. Was glad to be able to give around 35 rigs places back there. MJ and a few others got lucky and parked over grandstands on those asphalt spots.
BTW I parked myself and parents down by scoreboards in the grass area.

I have two question, is the Sportsnationals IHRA or NHRA, I believe from the schedule & the flyers that it is an NHRA event. Ok, if stock & super stock are the backbone of NHRA (like they tell us it is) then why are two IHRA originated classes getting the asphalt, inquiring minds want to know. I think if you took a poll first come first serve would be unanimous. MJ help me out here ..

Do people say that Stock and Super Stock are the backbone of NHRA?

I've heard many times that Sportsman racers are the backbone, but never heard it broken down further than that.

There were 200 less racers at the 2017 Sportnationals than in 2016.If that trend continues we will all get asphalt parking soon.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear... I am a BIG Nitro Joe fan....Nitro Joe had his instructions from the D 3 DD to park stock and superstock on the GRASS...Nitro was ALLOWED to park a few non TD,non TS on the asphalt close to the grandstands...I have the utmost respect for TD and TS but......there is quite a bit of asphalt at Bowling Green and when a stock or SS or sst racer shows up TWO full days before the race starts....shouldn’t he get a lil piece of the asphalt ??

Re: 2018 Sportsman Nationals

Interesting note.....NHRA has set 100 car quotas for all sportsman classes....

Mark for many years before you were born I pitted in New Mexico in dirt now I am for sure a "Pit Snob" has absolutely nothing to do with winning or losing a race .The way to win racers is practice seat time practice seat time and Practice just about everyone knows that < that is why the Touring Pros win so much as everyone knows

This holding spots for TD and TS is a joke. There are plenty of other high priced rigs and race cars that should be allowed to park on asphalt. I don’t remember IHRA holding spots for these cars on asphalt.
I still work and show up late alway. so I never get to park on asphalt.

Re: 2018 Sportsman Nationals

Think how low some of the TS cars sit might be a reason but if I had such a car I would be SURE to get their early enough to get a premium spot. Another reason of course is the the Division offices think TD and TS are what the spectators come to see and want to make that easier to see them if congregated. However, don't recall racers complaining about the fishbowl behind the tower being reserved for COMP cars so maybe we just like to gripe about stuff.

Mr Carter there are a ton of low sitting SC,SG and SS cars.
Comp cars have had asphalt spots for almost 40 years. I don't mind giving up a spot for comp they have paid there dues over the years.

Right on Charley > is the entry cost for all the different classes the same ? or do some of the cars getting preference treatment by having a special pit spot saved for them paying more ? just saying .lol

I am with Charley on this one. The 20-25 comp cars don’t bother me, I am glad to see everyone of them show up.....

There was absolutely no disrespect intended toward Comp. They will always be my favorite class. Wasn’t my point, simply put we play by NHRA rules.

Don, you've been around long enough to know that dealing with the NHRA is nothing like dealing in real life!

MY opinion, spectators come to see what is advertised, hyped.

If the radio, television, print or digital hype two snowmobiles is the desert
of Arizona, that is who is going to get the most exposure filled pit spots.

Thanks, Rick

I agree with providing special parking for certain styles of cars..as long as there's a national record in those classes.
