Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
I have seen Peter race from his very first days in a 10 second car and he is as good or better than anyone, PERIOD. I was at E-Town when he won 2 races in one weekend in a car owned by an old friend of mine They had a $5 K race on sat. and there were so many cars the race did not finish untill sunday. He won that race and went on to win the sunday race that had a huge field of cars and an increased payout because of the number of cars. That was around 1990 and he was barely old enough to drive a car in NJ. He wins in anything and the last person you want to see in the other lane would be him. I had to race Sam in his heyday and believe me that was intimidating. You always knew when you raced him you needed your very best run or you were gone. Against Peter your best run is usually not good enough.........There have been a few strings of winning rounds that went beyond 25 and that included Nat'l events and Division races if I remember right.

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
lets see him win with a stick car then il be amazed..

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Most people underestimate Peter's ability. It isnt all just driving, but in that department he is simply remarkible. His "science" of setting up a car is second to none. He knows the probabilities of success doing things this way or that way that most racers completely ignor. Most people also ignor the contribution of Phil Monteith. Just think if you had a very smart retired seasoned and completely selfless engineer setting up the car every run exactly the way Peter wants. It is a finely tuned machine fit for the record books.

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
I agree !!!! Peter Biondo may be the 'BEST' sportsman racer I have ever seen, his winning record speaks for itself.....has WON Indy 4 times, and countless other big races. EDIT: I was not sure, someone else said 'has WON Indy 6 times
EDIT#2: has now Won Indy 7 times.....WOW |
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Congrats to Jim Boudreau for his fine performance @ Indy. It took Mr. Biondo to stop him and that is certainly nothing to feel bad about.

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Johnny and Castle 5,
I think you guys are way over your heads !!! When its all said and done Peter will go down as the Best Sportmen Race of our time.. Not taking anything away from the great drivers out there, but he's the best right now and getting better... What's the differance if he's driving a Stick or an Auto, he's WINNING in everycar he drives... How many races have you guys even WON ?? Give the guy his Dew, just look at what he has done in all kinds of cars / rails, etc.. I don't know how anyone can question what he has done as a racer... Get Serious ! ! ! But it's not an unreasonable question. Has this fellow ever driven a stick? Is he any good at it? No one is trying to be a smart alec. |
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
yes he has proven himself. and we all know he is a great racer. id just like to see these guys could repeat with a stick.
|
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
who cares. if he did use a stick, idiots would come up with another excuse. has he ever won on a monday? whats next fellas.he cant win in a front wheel drive?? or ill bet he cant win in a blue car. ill bet he can figure out how to cut a light backwards by using the rear view mirror! its easy to be jealous isnt it? ive met him a few times, he is a good guy. would you guys rather see ed obrien in this position? lol

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Who's Jeff Gordon ???????
|
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Peter has gone 28 rounds in a row in stock (and still running). Some of you guys may be impressed, but unless he dose it in a stick car or a blue car, it's no big deal. BTW 6 wins at Indy with 3 different cars and not one is blue.
|
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
not again, i guess he has become fond of the number 1
|
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
-=shrug=- I was .018, .015, .018 in eliminations on Sunday, but as it turns out, you have to drive *both* ends of the race track! ;)
Peter is a phenomenal driver, but he's far from being an anomoly. As a student of the sport, you may find a large number of examples of driving talent on this level. Luke Bogacki had 3 R/U's and 2 Wins in two days at Abliene this weekend. Austin Welch has footbraked his way to Box class wins at Roxboro not once but twice this year. Chip Horton has won over 700 races and 23 track championships -- and he only has one leg! (footbrake, no hand controls) Terry Brouse won the Stick class championship three years in a row at Beaver Springs, and he only has one arm - his left one! Jeff Verdi is 59-9 this year. You'll find a lot of statistical data in the IHRA Summit Super Series points where a number of drivers have finished 28-2 this year. Point being, if you open up your field of vision, you will have better perspective. As someone pointed out to Shooter on DRR when he insisted that anytime you drive the finish line to double-oh that it's luck... "Just because you can't do it doesn't mean that it can't be done." |
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Ed O'Brien's question, did the Biondo's use delay boxes before it was legal ?
Great question Ed and one you've asked many times. If Sam or anyone else around the country did use a delay box before it was legal, this mean exactly what? To me it means they used an idea that others did not think of and they used it to win races......Eventually these devices were out there for anyone to use. They were legal and then banned around here for a few years even in bracket racing. They are more sophisticated than ever now and still legal in some categories and illegal in others. NHRA doesn't look much but they have spot checked at many races and included some of your favorite targets. Why do really good racers run no box categories? Because they are better at bottom bulb racing without a delay box than many other racers and they can increase their chances of winning. In a categorie that allows delay boxes they have less of an edge because the box is a great equalizer. If you took the time to watch some of the racers you point fingers at you'd notice that some use a blinder to block the tree.......why would you use a blinder if you had a delay box? If someone was smart enough to develop and use a delay box to win races, it is no different than the guy who figured out how to outrun you in a headsup race with a better engine or driveline. If it was deemed to be an unfair advantage and ruled illegal and they were caught using it then you would have a point. That is not the way it all came down. Delay boxes have been an issue ever since they showed up. Banning 2 steps and buttons in stock would be a good move by NHRA to help eliminate the possible use of delay boxes....... P.S. I have never heard Peter on a 2 step in his present car on the starting line ! |
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Peter,
I could cheer for you louder if you were a shoe salesman. Congratulations! Larry |
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
rich biebel you are a wise man. totally agree with your observations.. congrats to biondo for gettin the job done with an A car on a slick track.
|
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Biondo...ya I have heard the name....is he the BEST, I think so, lets say everyone gets a pick of the 128 car field, he would be my choice, if you had to bet, he would be my choice, if you had to WIN, he would be my choice.........OH
I guess he just WON Indy, again !!!!!!!!!!!! Is he good?....that would be my guess, is he the BEST, I know none better!!!!!!!!! Congrats Peter, you did it again |
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Congrats Peter, great Job. The guy who built that car should get some credit. Tom Kurtz. Tom is a major contributor to Peter's success. That car is deadly consistant, fast and very reliable. There is not to many better or smarter than him around the pits. He is a great guy as well. If that Ray Allen Chevelle was worth 1 mil because of the races it won, than this 69 Camaro should be worth 2 million. I don't think another Class car ever has won many races or rounds as this car has. Again Congrats to Peter and Tom for another US Nationals victory.

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Those who don't appreciate Peter's talent must be first round losers. He has proven over and over that he is the baddest dude on the planet. Just ask all of his opponents at Indy. He hit the tree with a big wheel some 25 years ago and has been terrorizing the competition ever since. If I had first pick for a team of top racers his name would be next to #1. Great job Pete, you the man.

Aside from a couple of people in here, no one has ever suggested the mega-winners don't have talent or are not nice people. Just because someone would rather see someone else win, does not make them an ogre, or jealous or mean-spirited. Actually, as touchy and prickly as some in here are, I am beginning to think they may have little secret shrines in their basements. There are candles burning, surrounding a photo of their favorite Biondfletchardson...inscense wafting upwards as they lay prostrate and chant "Please Lord, let me be the next one that is beaten by Him! Oh Lord, let me give my final round in order for Him to win another!" Rooting for the underdog does not mean someone wishes ill-will to the hot dog. |
Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
You guys shouldn't be thinking that you are the underdog against ANYONE, because anyone can be beat by anyone at anytime.

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Peter Congrat's on your win @ Indy. Great driving job.

Re: the Terminator,,,,,,biondo
Can someone answer me a question? Please don't take this wrong, but where is Mr. Biondo in the National standings and the Divisionals? My last "Dragster" doesn't list him in the top 10 in either, and with the wins and his accomplishments, shouldn't he be further up in the standings? Am I missing something as to how the points are tallied or what?
I have seen Pete race and I am in awe of his abilities as a driver. |
