NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Well, we made it public at the NHRA Southeast Banquet a few hours ago. New for 2018, there’s an 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series at Atlanta, Rockingham, Carolina House Of Hook, Piedmont Dragway, Orangeburg, and Mooresville Dragway. Grade points. Wally Trophies. Division Championship title and invitation to the banquet at Jekyll Island. Crate Motor cars have a home. Familiar faces on the tech crew. Great race tracks! More positive news to come. Welcome to Division 2. #myracingfamily. #nhra

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Any idea what kind of program it's going to be? 2-3 index classes plus stock and super stock? Knew Carolina was coming over to NHRA, with Orangeburg in mix as well it should make for a lot of close races for the abandoned IHRA class racers. Seems like Galot would fit better than Atlanta if that's the intent, and the first recognition by NHRA for IHRA crate motor specs??

:):):) WOW...if this is so...as we "see" it...based in Mooresville,N.C...this INDEED just what the doctor ordered !!!...with IHRA departure...this fills the void & more...combining that with a nice compliment of Carolina Class Racers Association events scheduled...2018...looking good for area Stock/SuperStock...racers...old adage...just when things look the "darkest"...lol...just around corner...good things can/do happen !!!...:):):) imagine that- Drake p.s. IF only Rich had ever responded to our request for NHRA Division 2 permanent numbers..we'd have in place...unfortunately he NEVER did...so we'll have our Division 1#'s in place...lol...nothing...nobodies "purr-fect" 'eh...

The prudent assimilation begins and in a most innocuous way.
Ascribing the newest competitors to a less than desired format is an equitable and effective entry strategy. The competitive limitation will soon erode and be allowed to reach its full and complete 220 fathoms. Well done indeed. |

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
I for one am glad Division2 and Rich stepped up to fill a void for these racers. Racers are racers no matter their class and it would be a shame for these cars to not have a venue to race. Now the question is will they show up?

A wild guess that attendance will be an issue.

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Never fails.... NHRA does something out of the box to help advance the sport and it took less than 24hrs for the doubters and haters to start chiming in. The tracks listed on this schedule that ran an IHRA pro am / sportsman championship race had GREAT stock/ superstock turnouts (I know this because I was there supporting the tracks along with ALOT of other great racers down here).... shockingly enough it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that 1/8 is much less wear and tear on your equipment and also you have much less time to make decisions at the stripe. The racing here in the Carolinas is exciting regardless if its the stepchild 1/8mile. NHRA DIV 2, for what it’s worth, AWESOME MOVE!!! Thank you so much for creating this series and we welcome all cars to come race with us down here, like many of you said for not supporting the IHRA, you wanted that coveted WALLY, here is your shot, or is an 1/8mile Wally not as good?..... Oh, and you may even be able to keep that extra fuel jug at home.... wont need it.

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
If this is like a national open where a grade point can be had, that is a plus in some cases. I am not a fan of 1/8th mile, but if the schedule works for me, I will try to support the races that I can. Having an extra grade point available could be a good deal for me.
I will also say that having a positive response like this from NHRA shows a break in their typical response, we as racers should try and reward the DD and all involved by proving them right. As was mentioned. Most of the racers that would be excluded before have some more options. That is a good move on D2’s part. I bet the idea didn’t come from Glendora. If you have an IHRA only combo, you should be in line already to attend these races. |

I see guys talking about winning half track races as requiring sharper drivers. I found running 30 MPH slower at the strip is easier to drive the stripe, actually have more time at that speed. Wear & tear on drive line (trans clutches, tires, things that wear) is irrelevant since most cars are in high gear before half track. Still making the same shifts. Same burn out for the tires. Half track is easier to drive. Just running along in high gear in the back half on 1/4 mile. |

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
I'm confused, at Atlanta Lucas points race for SS/S do we race 1/8 or 1/4 mile? Will there be two stock champs one 1/8 and one 1/4? Who will be checking the fast burn 385 Vega for being legal for Stock. Just because I have questions does not make me against it.

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Bottom line, do you want more opportunities to race or not. If you want to be selective, or if you think your above something, if it doesn't fit your agenda, then so be it. You want to whine or be objective, OK.
It is your sport that is slowly slipping away, no matter what you think, it is not what it used to be. Do you want to race or not. It is called competition, that is what drives most people, to compete. I love competition, I coach football, I drag race, I love competition. My football theory is "give me somebody to hit" My drag racing theory is "bring me someone to race" Ron Ortiz U/SA what do you want to do |
Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Everyone in D2 has been wanting Open races, so here they are. Now all we need is some major sponsor like PC Richard......maybe someone like IMH Used Parts will step up as series sponsor!

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Now James, this is not the OPEN we where wanting, i wanted a 1/4 mile open to set a record or 2.I travel all the way up into Canada now days to support there open races on east coast, and attempt to set records and collect on the 10k combo race, that only had 37 cars last year and the man paid it in full,as there air is good{as ya all know this cold air down here comes only from Canada, lol well that is what the weather man says lol} and that is a haul. Now for the 1/8 racing, i will support it,if i'am around at that time,i raced at all these tracks except for 1, all them good short tracks, good people and great hooking.Like Ron said it's a place to race.i hope goes over good, there is alot of cars around here to support it, they just have to come and support it. Like James said, last year not many supported the I section of the sport. Now there is alot of question need to be answered also, but i will not post it here and let the neg.people beat this to death, like it has already started.Good luck D2 and track owners. Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
It would be real nice to have one in the southern part of the division. Maybe Gainesville or SGMP in the fall after the 1/4 mile races are done for the year. That's when the weather is best here for racing. Late November or early December is usuall nice and cool. It's a good start for other opportunities to race our style of racing.

Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Mickey, you looking for a Kenworth or a Peterbilt. You could go Nostalgia with a Mack or go conservative and get an Izuzu, or go progressive and get a Mercedes Benz. No matter what, you would look good in a truck especially with a jet engine. Bye bye rag top.
Now, back to our regular scheduled thread. Ron Ortiz U/SA air horns are cool. |
Re: NHRA 1/8th Mile Division Championship Series
Good point Mike. Back in the 70s, the late November National Open at Suffolk VA was a big race.
