Golf Cart Feedback

I am thinking about getting a golf cart. Would you go with gas or electric? New or used?

Go with the gas! I bought electric and have had to replace batteries every couple years at $700 a pop so it doesn't take long to add up to the price difference. Plus if you need to tow your car for any reason the electric is not going to do it, unless ofcourse you would like to buy mine I will get a gas one. 😊

Defina GAs tat away from electric. Major cost to replace batteries. Used between $500 and $5000 depending on what you buy---new $ 5000 to $10000 depending on what you buy-- if you buy used stay away from Harley hard to find parts for-- get something a little more contemporary not an antique if it breaks again hard to find repair parts. It all depends on your budget!!!!!

Gas is the best for what we use them for .
Electrics will tow a car better as they have more torque ,but the charging time can be an issue , you cannot fast charge them without reducing the life of the batteries. ....Plus they are VERY heavy .
Club Car is an excellent choice for many because it is the lightest cart out there due to its aluminum frame and ABS plastic body.
Kawasaki engine is strong and durable plus the rev limiter and governor are very easy to defeat. ....Mine can hit 40 mph with no gear or engine mods.

Gas. they are lighter and only one battery to replace every 4-5 years. all those batteries bouncing around in the electric carts cause trailer fires also

Have you considered a small UTV instead. If you don't golf it would probably handle the things that racers use them for better than a golf cart. There are some off brands that are pretty reasonable. In some states you can add some mirrors blinkers and a horn and be street legal.

How do explain why you have more in your cart, than your dime rocket? lol

Of course, it won't be as strong or as durable after the limiter and governor are defeated. ;-)

Also sounds like a good way to get a $10000 ticket!

If you are interested, I have a 2012 Yamaha G29 Gas cart for sale.

It is in fantastic shape. Check my ad in the classifieds.

I have had both and prefer the gas for most of the reasons listed..

I've had this Chuck Wagon since 2011. Paid 4200 for it new. Honda 11.5 hp. It has towed my 4000 lb race truck back when it broke.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am looking for a Club Car gas powered. Thanks Tom for your info. I might have a line on one within 10 miles of me. Tom if I get one I'll catch up with you at the Atco .90 races unless your heading to Virginia next month.

Gas powered EZGO is the smart move. I think the Club Cars are too jerky myself.

Look me up ,I'll definitely be in Virginia. . the gov/rev limiter deal takes all of 5 min. I've done quit a few . As far as affecting durability , I've had mine for ten years and all I do is tune it up occasionally and change the oil . Just changed the belts ,mainly because the starter/generator belt finally wore out .

OK, I've switched between scooters and a golf cart over the past years, and most recently, have decided to try an electric cart. I bought a very nice 36V EZ-Go. Will the experience be so bad that I'll regret ever trying electric, or can I get along with it for a couple of years? I will obviously bring the charger to the track with me, and re-charge every night.

I have a 36v EZ go and it will pull a car. Keep the batts charged, zero mait. Between all the race cars, scooters, generators, lawnmower etc,I just didn't want another gas engine to maintain

You will be fine with it, I have one but its a Club Car and I really like it but replacing the batteries every couple years bites. I shouldn't have said earlier that it won't tow a car but I wouldn't want to be in a situation of towing to the lanes every round like they had suggested at Gainesville because of where we were parked. Mine does fine but it struggles at Bristol in the hills. One piece of advice is don't charge it every time your around the charger unless it needs it because every time you charge your reducing the battery life, I learned that one the hard way.

Re: Golf Cart Feedback

Thank you both for your responses. I didn't consider pulling the race car with it (actually never have, even with previous gas carts), so I should be OK there. And the "run the batteries almost completely down before you charge" advice is excellent. :D

Re: Golf Cart Feedback

You should put the batteries on a charger ---- a charger with an automatic shutoff__ after every use -you also want to leave the charger hooked up when you are not using the cart at home---- watch for the temperature to be above mid 80's* while not using it as they will discharge in the heat!!!!--you don't want to get the battery down below 80% or ---A) you can damage the battery ---B) it takes a long time to bring them back up to full charge--- they work great you just have to know how to take maintain/care of them--read up on them all kinds of info on the internet-- never have to worry about not starting or running out of gas either! ---just step on the pedal and go--- FED 387

Re: Golf Cart Feedback

With a gas cart of you happen to be really lax or lazy and run out of gas at a racetrack far far away from your pit some good sole will help you out with some fuel, with an electric cart you are just dead. When one battery goes away you had better replace them all. And not putting golf cart batteries in cart is suicide. Also the batteries must have the water check and filled regularly. Agm batteries solve that problem but a set of agm golf cart batteries cost more that the cart is worth. Do yourself a big favor-buy gas!

We started sometime ago with a Honda ATV then insurance made us move to a Gas Golf Cart finally I ended up with a LSV that I could use around home on the street as well as at the race's it will run 26-28 mph and pull's like a tractor we get about 2-3 seasons out of a battery pack and I just purchased a new on board charger that is supposed to increase battery life and charge battery's much closer to full than the factory OE charger I don't regret the move ever - my $.02

Re: Golf Cart Feedback

I have 2 EZ GO gas carts. paid $800 for first one and $1500 for second one. They have more than enough power to tow a race car. I towed a friends 64 Dodge 3850 pound car no problem. The first cart was replaced because my Nephew hit a slick spot on a trail at my property and hit a tree one day I will put a new raised axle and mudder tires on it. My other cart gets used daily. Starts even in mid teen temps. There are lots of companies that make engine, drive train and body parts for them.
