“Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Everyone bare with me, I don’t normally do this BUT someone needs to as this series that Rich and NHRA has put together needs exposure! I was actually in town late last night but came over to the track around noon. My tech card was #30, they called the test n tune around 3:30 or so because there was rain and a thunderstorm that came in. I’ve been in the motorhome resting from my accident a few weeks ago, anyway I walked outside a few minutes ago and the place looks to be filling up pretty good. I don’t know how much I’ll be reporting but I’ll try and post the sheets when they come out. We’re supposed to start at 9 am with junior dragster and we should get three runs tomorrow. I’ll be back tomorrow with more information.

Duane sent me the sheets and I posted them for him, also he says they announced that they will run the event until completion today.

Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Thanks Cooter! I don’t know how to resize the pictures on my phone. Yes they’re running it all today. 7 top sportsmen 8 top dragsters, not sure about the other classes. I’m going to see if they got Q2 up if they do, Cooter will be getting a text.

Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Thanks for posting Cooter. I however stunk it up first round (cracked ribs and all) Corey Taylor was .031 .014 above I’m .034 .019 above for his mov of .0087 oh well think I’m going to find somewhere to go tomorrow so I can try and see what’s broke in the rear suspension. Come on guys we need to support this series even if you don’t like 1/8th mike or the idea of running crate motor or production cars. If not this will die just like the ihra did and we don’t need that.

And that is just to beginning to be able to run a few tenths under the Index! There were not a lot of us but were were dedicated bunch and added to the numbers. The success of these series need all the IHRA classed cars. GT and PS would have added about 8-10 more cars. Peace |
Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Dan, have you tried to contact Rich personally? With IHRA’s demise, the best pure Stocker move is to get together and see if Rich would consider allowing them. I don’t think anyone would have any trouble with PS cars running. I know for a fact that it won’t happen just by posting here. I would think that there would be no downside for the 1/8 mile open series to let them in. Especially to add a few cars. I know a phone call and e mail is a lot more likely then a conversion to a NHRA J/SA

Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
his reply was not enough cars running in pure stock, Robbie Butler was starting a mustang pure stock car before IHRA ended

What a beautiful day for Drag Racing. Couldn't ask for a cooler day in July to be at the track
Stock Eliminator Finals. Cody Phillips took the win over Terry Taylor, did i mention that is Uncle and Nephew Super Stock Finals. Larry Leazer took the win over Brandon Peterson |
Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Ok here’s the main problem with pure stock. SINCE NHRA OPENED UP THE CAMSHAFT RULE THE ONLY SPECS THEY GOT FROM THE MANUFACTURER IS LIFT. NO OVERLAP, NO DURATION. HONESLTY I DONT THINK IHRA EVER CARED ENOUGH ABOUT IT TO TRY AND GET ALL THE SPECS AS THEY NEVER HAD TIME WITH THE DOUBLE RACES TO TEAR CARS DOWN ANYWAY. I’m pretty sure Bobby could put a stocker camshaft in his car and run one to two tenths under. The main issue is having to put a roll bar in the car. Right Bobby? The only reason ihra had some specs on the camshafts is the competitor had the manufacture submit them or when he ran the sportsman side of things my father got them from the manufacturer.
|
Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Then let those that specs are available to run

Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Hats off to Rich and the D 2 crew for this series! I really enjoyed my first trip to Piedmont. Nice track, staff really great experience. It this pure stock stuff is cry baby to the max. If these few cars were PURE STOCK it would be one thing but Mr Pure Stock brags about the cams, torque converter, and all the other add ins these are hopped up street cars looking g for an advantage. If they were PURE STOCK that would be different. They need to play by the rules rather than try to get the rules changed to fit them. IHRA kept creating classes to fit cars for people that couldn't run within the established rule, did not seem to work out in the end. Guys, change your car to fit a class or go bracket race, QUIT COMPLAINING, there was not enough support for pure stock, send flowers, it is dead. Put on your big boy pants and get over it!

Thanks JAMES! It is not just the PS cars also the GT Stockers too. Thankfully the CM guys stepped up to get venues to race in. CM, GT and PS Rules are the well established, nothing to invent. There is no down side except for the resistance of a few racers! More cars, more revenue, more bench racing. Just sad that there are motivated racers willing to support the sport. Yet the decision makers decided to shut us out. IMHO Not a smart business decision! Before the IHRA announcement there were a handful of people building new Pure Stockers and received questions from others what to do! My advocacy was working, had a small movement going too! Converting to Stock costs a lot of money and especially time. Not just about adding a cam and roll bar. It is also getting the car to run 7 to 8 tenths under to compete. If I was 50 years old might feel different. PS was the perfect venue to get back into Class Racing. At 67....too much right now to move to Stock. Had NHRA supported GT, CM and PS a lot more racers would have built them. They are cost effective low maintenance race cars. I am not a professional mechanic so takes a lot to be prepared. Only so much can be done in a driveway under HOA Rules. Hello out there to Gray, Bobby and Ray! Peace |

They are being smart enough to support the CM’s.. GT and PS would have added 8-10 more cars. The trend before IHRA dropped Class Racing was to build a non-traditional Stocker! Had NHRA participated it would have doubled over night. Importantly, it is a revenue issue! Tracks run on narrow margins to stay profitable. An additional 10 cars would help with Pit Fees. Plus racers bring family and other spectators. They buy things at the track, like Fuel, food, stuff! Figure around $4000 more revenue just from the Stockers. If you had a big bracket race they would have had twice the cars. It is all about filling Pit Space! Why limit your revenue intake denying other Stockers and SS? NHRA has lots of money. Not so with smaller tracks they are supposed to support! IMHO NHRA is shooting their nose off despite their face. Ok cool, handful of National and Divisional races have large draw of cars. Participation is so large, racers have pre qualification rules to attend. Not so with vast majority of other tracks....and this is ignored! They struggle when it comes to supporting Class Racing. In the Consulting world there is another term called Butts in Seats... Class Racing it is Racers in Pit Space. D |
Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Dan, we log on to this thread to see how our friends and fellow racers are doing at this particular race, not to read your incessant whining about a class that is long gone. You are old enough to remember that in '72 we were forced to convert our stockers to SS or the NEW pure stock class which went away in two or three years as we gradually got back to traditional stockers, so much for pure stock. Just be thankful that you didn't build a pro stock truck. I'm guessing you have much more money in an Impala SS pure stocker than many of our middle and lower class stock racers have in their stocker and probably some super stockers, just convert and move on or quit would be my suggestion.
One question, you live 100's of miles from these Div II events, tell us how many of them you would have made if they had run pure stock? My two cents or YOUR subject, take a break. |
Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
Dan just think of the money you wasted building your pure stocker, if you would have took that money and used it towards a traditional stocker you would have been over half way there. You get up here complaining about what NHRA should do for you but I have seen countless people try to help you on this board but you consistently ignore their advice. Kind of like your transmission, I even replyed to pm me if you wanted a good 200 that I was practically going to give to you but you never even attempted to contact me. Which by the way I sold it for $1200 dollars to a young man trying to improve his performance so I helped him out. You get up here and brag about refereeing soccer all day but now you're suddenly now you're too old to build a real sticker, get real man. Fact is Dan class racing is just not for you, you need a sport that has an "easy" button. Its like this, get off your *** and fix your car to current rules or get off this board with your childish rants every day about how NHRA is not treating you right! Everyone is sick of it!

Re: “Live from” the NHRA D2 Nat open series at Piedmont
A Big Thank You to Rick, the Division 2 crew and everyone at Piedmont Dragway for their hard work putting on the race this Weekend. I'm sure out in the hot sun wasn't fun.
