Indy First Experience!
I'm thinking about entering. Any info of what this Trump loving country boy should expect?

Re: Indy First Experience!
Yeah, lots of quick cars running nearly a second or more under.
Better be careful about the political statement. lol I've had threads deleted for religious & racial comments. Most forums don't allow any discussions of religion or politics, tho some let more stuff go than others. I suppose it depends on the moderator. :) |
Re: Indy First Experience!
Randy should have no problem fitting right in with those 1 second under combos. 😉

Re: Indy First Experience!
For sure, you can expect no hp on Tuesday....no AHFS for Indy....

Re: Indy First Experience!
I signed up for Indy today I was surprised how few were signed up in stock or most classes for that matter. Not looking forward to the 2100 mile trip but I am getting my new trailer delivered to me there a few days before the start I am looking forward to that. 24 ft Intech Icon loaded nice replacement for my open hauler. Last time at Indy was Sept 1972 It has changed since then. Leaving for Sonoma next week for the double that place is fast.

Re: Indy First Experience!
Anyone remember last year how many grade points it took to register in Stock ?

Re: Indy First Experience!
Indy will be the most fun you ever had with knots in your stomach, but when you see your name on the final sheet of 128 all is good. If you win class, that's why most of us enter the "Big Go", all is GREAT! At the scales is when the fun part begins, the invitation to the "Barn", if your lucky. Talk about big knots in your stomach, and maybe a little doubt about something on the car, you will have them. Remember without NHRA Tech. a class win would mean a whole lot less. Some of the best words you will hear in the barn,"We are done you can but it back together, enjoy your class win!"
There is nothing like pulling your stuff apart in front of God and everybody, that's a memory that is taken to the grave with pride. Hope you took notes because you have to put it back together and race first round 8:00 AM the next day. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!! |

One of my favorites was while talking to a friend racer who was helping another racer I'll not name in teardown by removing the carb and intake from his stocker. As he removed the intake while we were talking the owner walked over and said racers didn't like anyone looking at the ports. I laughed, and told my friend I'd see him later. Now who would care if you saw a factory part that cannot legally be touched? Seeing the smiling faces of all the class winners posing for their pictures is a treat too! |

Re: Indy First Experience!
According to Buck (before my time) the MOROSO party was the best fun ever - haybales for bleachers,, bands, BBQ, naked girls (not sorry I missed that part) beer and more beer - 17 cars in SS/J. That was real racing in the good old days.

But that's good to know if I get my block fixed and get it running a second under again |

Re: Indy First Experience!
21 SS/LA cars for class in 1979. Class winner got to play in the Super Stock eliminator and all others (including myself got to go home early). Still think it should be that way. First experience was in 74 in stock and didn't make it through Class tear down in the barn. lol

Re: Indy First Experience!
I’ve always said everyone should experience Indy at least once. In I think 2014
decided to go to Indy. Like everyone hoping just qualify. Lucky enough to qualify but lost in the first round of class. When at the scales was told I was invited to a party. I said I lost and was told it didn’t matter. Tear downs are random. So not happy to have to tear down after losing class went back to our pit only to be greeted by the “you’ve been selected for a random drug test” lady. Passed both without an issue and then it’s first round. Was lucky enough to make it to the semis. Did I ever regret going to Indy? He’ll no. A memory to last for ever. |
Re: Indy First Experience!
First time I saw Indy was 1981 as a spectator. It was incredible! The first time a raced there was 1986. Drove a SSAS 81 Camaro. I remember in class getting a significant holeshot and got stomped anyway LOL. Was lucky enough to win in 2000 stock eliminator in Bob Gipson’s N Stick Chevelle. Have raced there many times and each one is unique. I have been DNQ and near the top of qualifying. Have been to the late rounds and out first round. Been through tear down there multiple times in several different cars.
Indy is Indy. It is a sprint and a marathon all rolled into one. I agree. If you love Drag Racing and you haven’t tried it, you need to go. |
Re: Indy First Experience!
I have made the trek to Indy on two different occasions. Indy is like any other national event just on Steroids. If you don't have a car that is capable of running .90 under in the heat then it may be an event that you might want to skip until you can be competitive there. Both times that I went I could not qualify. I did have a good time but not being able to actually race was a bummer. In my case the car and combo that I run is factored pretty heavy and I don't think there is a car in the country right now with the combo that I have that can qualify at Indy.

Re: Indy First Experience!
Unless they put some hp on the fi cars it won't be long and you won't see one carbed car make the show.

Re: Indy First Experience!
Have spectated there since 1967 and hopefully the new car will sort out and qualify next year. It’s been on my bucket list longer than I can remember. Thursday and Friday are by far the best racing you’ll find anywhere.

Re: Indy First Experience!
That place chews me up and spits me out almost every year as a driver. Last year I was able to make it to the winner circle as a crew guy. I keep going and hopefully one year I can have a good weekend there as a driver. I love the amount of cars, running class, and qualifying. It’s a must go for a class racing enthusiast.

Re: Indy First Experience!
This will be my 13th Indy overall and my 12th straight. Any true fan of class racing should experience Indy at least once!
