2019 Mello Yello Schedule is Posted

I see that Gaiesville is again scheduled between Phoenix and Las Vegas 1. Is it only me that thinks it strange to travel over 4,000 miles (round trip) to Gainesville, inbetween, when Phoenix and Las Vegas are only 250 miles apart???

the Gators have always been that weekend in March. They probably just added Vegas to the coolest possible available weekend. I wouldn't want to be in Vegas between may and October, let alone trying to run the number.

Oh well that is a great reason not to change it ...

Why would they change the date for the two racers who might drive 2000 miles to attend? Gainesville's date is Gainesville's date! 50 years. Nuff said. Jim

Racer's comments after this years Gators that might become a "non problem" :)

For Pro Racers(and the environment) it's just a big economic waste crossing the land back and forward.

NHRA ,my guess,is just doing what they think is best for them(bean counters)
I could see Gators pushed a week or 2 based on what I read about from track reports the last decade

I think he was talking about the touring Pros. It's just a waste of fuel and money to make them travel from one end of the country to the other and back again.

Looking at the schedule it makes absolutely no sense to criss cross the country back and forth. They obviously did not put a lot of thought into the enormous cost involved when making this schedule up. I do realize some locales have weather situations that do not allow racing at certain times of the year (winter) or that it is so hot at some times of the year nobody wants to race anyway. It seems to me that they could structure this a little differently so that this did not exist. Not revamp the whole schedule but differently.

G'ville has always been around St. Pats day for ever but you also have to consider that there is Daytona 500/Bike week/NCAA Basketball playoffs/Rolex 24 hour etc. in that area from mid January until the end of March PLUS all the Snowbirds and lodging stays at a premium if there even is any available in the area. Plus Gators weather can be real "iffy" too Hot/cool/rain/sunshine you just never know.

Don't the pro teams take the cars & stuff back to their home shop after each race anyways, besides the big West Coast swing in the summer?

I think it's a waste of time, fuel, etc., but if they've crunched the numbers and found that it's worth it to them, they're going to regardless of schedule.

This is not a big deal one way or the other. Of course I was thinking about the touring racers....and NHRA support vehicles, running up and down the road.

Not trying to ruffle any feathers.

I had an ideal adjustment to the schedule (based on my bud Gary Hansen's idea), but it might back up 'Vegas to either mid-late April or early May?:

1. Pomona
2. Chandler
3. Gainesville
4. Commerce
5. Charlotte
6. Houston
7. Las Vegas
8. Topeka

What do you all think about this? The travel sting wouldn't be quite so bad with something like this? I also noticed that Toyota isn't on board with either the Sonoma or the Las Vegas national events....I wonder if that's a sign for their future involvement in the pro-teams operations?

Makes perfect sense from a racer's travel standpoint but with # 3, 4 & 5 races in a row don't see NHRA going with it. Projected poor ticket sales will be the reason.
