I can confirm Bob the Wizard has spent a lot of time, $ and testing on it since we were there two year ago. As always with Bob it’s all been clandestine and under cover at local tracks.
Congrats to both Paul and Bob

It's a v6 engine with the same HP rating as the 302 Ford V8. Just 40 fewer cubic inches.

Paul Wong 08-29-2018 06:41 PM

Re: Wong/Shaw

Bob spent a lot of time testing and working on the car. It is by no means a “dime rocket”, there is a lot of effort, time and funding making the car what it is. I’m more than proud to be a part and feel very fortunate to get the chance to turn a few screws on it.

I didn't think the big V6 came in cars. Does it use a Quadrajet?

Not surprising but it`s shocking! Nice effort you two. Let me guess, stock steel wheels and steel belted radials? Congrats on the new ride!

Is this the same El Camino that Jim Parsons went number 1 with 2 years ago?? If so, very cool and good to see it up there again.

Good luck guys.

You are truly the Wizard, and very humble. For you youngsters out there ,Bob Shaw won the Sportsnationals in the mid 70’s with a CORVAIR named HALF FAST.

Bob has more#1 qualifiers than anyone in stock ... quiet guy but if he’s there it’s a good chance he will be on top of the sheet ... damn shame it broke a starter on line round one 😞

Aw rats. Man I know that pain. Four cars from the starting line at Pomona on a Sunday afternoon the snap ring popped of the starter gear and the gear got spit about fifty feet behind me. Sinking feeling. Congrats on a killer combo tho'.

Who could forget.. Z stick corvair. I think the car ran about
a 20 second quarter. Think it is back east still.Looking down
the qualifying list I am sure Bob is responsible for many cars
and or the combination.

Bob Shaw you are the man! Of that there can be no doubt. It was always enjoyable (painfully) when racing you in the old days! Congratulations to you and Paul.

With the combo of Wong and Shaw how can they not be number 1. A ton of effort in that combination. Way to go guys - Congrats.

Re: Wong/Shaw

Way to go Paul and Bob! I hope to talk to both of you for some assistance on my combo, because although I feel I'm on the cusp of running 14's next year with my 173V6 at Pomona, I think you two could offer me some good ideals or parts (read headers), that'll get my car quick enough to make the tow to Indy worthwhile, in these next two years?
