Looking for opinions on who builds the best 904 transmission for a 340. And what gear ratios work best. Thank you.

ProTrans, A-1 and Joel's On Joy are the best. Gear ratios depend on which year of 340 you will be running and the car weight. |

Rick Allison
A&A transmission 317-831-3066 There is no better. he just built one for my Drag Pak. |
Re: 904 transmission
Pro Trans builds ALL ours!
Ratio depends on weight and altitude you run at and a couple other things....Not set in Stone! |
Re: 904 transmission
I spoke to Joel yesterday- a real nice down to earth guy whom is extremely busy (68 Factory Stocker Trans to do) we will talk again at his convenience about a 904 but a nice guy without a doubt - must be a well kept secret or I have been an ostrich but thanks for the referral

Re: 904 transmission
Does anybody have a Pro Trans list of letter codes and available gear ratios?
Edit: I found the link in the fine print on their website. |
Re: 904 transmission
Just FYI that on insidecompracing.com you can go to the classified section and generally find some 904 gear sets and trans for sale. Many of the comp folks run Pro Trans.

Re: 904 transmission
We use Pro Trans. We like the 727 SB more than the 904. Has a few different parts and deeper pan doesn't hit the rotating assembly. You probably need a 2.65 to 275 first.

Re: 904 transmission
I’m thinking 2.75 I want to get off the line much quicker than I am now.

Re: 904 transmission
You can try 2.75 inexpensively......They came factory in many late model
904s. They are not straight cut BUT a Huge improvement over 2.45 in a small block. |
Re: 904 transmission
Pro Trans just did a 904 for my Aspen with a 360. He decided on a 2.61 first and 1.61 for second gear.
