Tri-State 2019 Season

Mike Carr and his Dad did a lot for us.
I want to help here to keep it going !
Cannot let this racing series go away.

It is not hard to schedule and organize these races.
I help run the Impala Races for ECIRS.

Key questions:
What are the best dates to set up the races for Tri-State?
How many races do you want?
What Tracks are best to run at?
Salem, Keystone, Mason Dixon seem most popular.
2018 had it twice at Mason Dixon successfully.

I want to help.
Be cool to put a Team together to do this.
I have excellent relationship at Mason Dixon.
Who has relationships with another tracks?

Have a few ideas to peak Spectator Interest.
Here is one.
Introduce Heads Up S/SS Racing.

RULES:
Any two cars of any class can challenge the other to heads up race.
Somewhere where the Indexes between them are close.

Such as
A/SA vs SS/IA
Pure Stocker vs Stocker
Crate Motor vs NNS
FX vs FS
Two cars of same Class

Each Donate $20,
Winner keeps their money.
Loser money goes to a Good Cause !
Side betting extra and quiet !

Other ideas
Hire a High School kids to write articles about what we do an publish.
Have them Advertise on Social Media to bring in spectators.

Feel free to email me at danfahey@dansources.com

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

I hate to see it go away also, as I know how much the series meant to Mike.

I think at this point, continuation is the key factor. Don't make any sudden changes or etc., just experiment down the road. Remember that most tracks are squeezing these races in among their current daily schedule. Adding extras may cause some issues at certain tracks.

As far as tracks...Mike definitely did well there and traveled the series all around PA, Ohio, and Maryland. I think they even had a race or two at Fairmont before that track closed. While I don't know the details, and never asked (none of my business), I am inclined to believe that there was some disagree in recent times with the Quaker City management team which lead to the lack of recent Tri-State races there.

The Ohio/PA/WV/MD area is very rich with Stock/SS cars, but unfortunately outside of the end of the year race at Mason-Dixon, these races are generally poorly attended by the Stock/SS crowd. I would work on growing the car count before I added any extras to the program. I would avoid stacking events on top of the LODRS races, and also the Buckeye Series to help with this.

Cecil? You might bring down some racers from eastern PA and NJ.

Yeah I noticed that...Mason Dixon gets the Virginia, Maryland, WDC, Pennsylvania and some Ohio...fairly easy to get to from four directions.
Most racers are within a 3 hour drive.

Maybe three/four race dates at Mason Dixon is a better answer!
I know Cecil would be interested..may crowd the East Coast Series.
Might work if we combine both associations earning points at same race.
There is Numidia, Beaver Springs, Maple Grove.
I know Capitol and MIR would work with us.
Capitol is surprisingly easy to get to from any direction too.

Would like to organize an All Association race at the end of the year.

But you have a great point about car count.
Mason Dixon will work with us.

Tri-State 2019 Season - best Dates

What are th best Dates for TriState.
Last year there was one in April other in Late November.
What other dates would be useful?

Dan

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

April would be good if everyone is ready, but you run the risk of bad weather/soggy grounds. I believe one of the two April races this year was canceled due to weather. You may have some success with a PA/MD race in early May...but the Columbus and Norwalk LODRS races are both in May, with Maple Grove at the end of the month. *Most* of your crowd will be spending their money among those three races. I think a July race might do well providing the weather isn't nasty.

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

Thanks for the good advice.
Question
Thinking it would be good to schedule association races a weekend before the Divisionals.

Tracks Considered

I got this feedback on the tracks racers want to race at.
Please give me your feedback..

Mason Dixon was #1

Cecil and MIR were number two

Capitol and Numidia were close in third respectively
Edited...Beaver Springs was in this bunch

But there was also South Mountain.

Maple Grove was not mentioned...interesting !

The Beave would be good too, the new owner is very open to anything that brings in the people, racers and fans.

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

I have little information on this but I know the organizer of the 422 Allstars has been ill and they are in a similar situation . They're schedule was at some of these tracks. It might be worthwhile to contact them. Wayne Shipley and Dave Siltman among others are members here. They ran with us at Mason Dixon the last two years. The group has 30-40 cars and bring in a lot of spectators.

Mason dixon doubles work the best. Scheduling is easy, soliciting sponsors for $2500 purse is the challenge.

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

Going to see if a race can be scheduled in March or April...

Would like to Dedicate it to Mike Carr….

Call it the Mike Carr Mountain Challenge
Unless there is a better name to call it !

Have no problem donating a bit of money to make it work.

Any interest in helping here?

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

Need more feedback on what best tracks and dates are best to race at?

We already have Mason Dixon for November!
What other Maryland Tracks are interesting.

The Pennsylvania tracks mentioned were
South Mountain only runs Sunday and only 1/8 mile.
Numidia, Beaver Springs or even Maple Grove.

Especially if the races were set up a week before an NHRA Meet.

Is there any interest in VIR, Richmond 1/8 mile

Do you prefer the set up Mike Carr had with a Saturday and Sunday race?

Does anyone like 1/8th mile?

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

2 races for 1 tow is what makes combo races great, so sat and sun races would be preferred.

No 1/8th mile, you won't get any car count.

South Mountain won't draw any cars.

Adding to a MG event might work. Dave Ley did/does it for super chevy with his series and I think had a decent car count.

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

I hate to see a series go down. We started the Can Am Stock Super Stock series 22 years ago and we are still going strong. Not to step on any toes , and only offering some suggestions , We had always looked after our own pay out according to car count. We pay the tracks for driver and crew and each racer pays 100 per race. Then all collected money is paid back. We pay back 50 for first round win and usually the winner will see 800 t0 1400. This all is depending on car count. The only thing you need from the tracks is time.

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

We are doing a .90 race at Numidia the weekend following the Lucas Oil event (Fathers Day Weekend), not sure if Vinny has worked on a Schedule yet but, might be good to get you guys on board. They are allowing guys to leave their trailers at the track following the LODRS weekend.

Good advice.
That is something to capitalize on!

Re: Tri-State 2019 Season

Dan,

If you want me to get ahold of him let me know. To be honest, I’d try to get it a regular type event and not make it a huge $$$ one. I think Myself and Lee Zane and Brian VP have all learned that the Mountain is a tough place to get Cars. The Diminos have been to good to my Series and I’m sure would welcome you guys and I think if we can make it so the Stk/SS guys who want to run the weekend following can leave your trailers there it will help car counts so you don’t have to make that’s Hard Tow twice.

South Mountain is 1/8 mile.
We can try.
Let me contact Mike Carr.
Need to get his blessing to drive TriState.
Even busy dealing with the shut down.
Everyone’s back.
But hit more than third of my business.
Looking at Numedia as well.

Contacted Mike Carr and cannot help with Tri State anymore.
Think Mike has another direction he wants to go.

I can help organize something independently if there is some interest.

Did my best
