Jim Smith, RIP

Last night the Lord took my Dad, Jim Smith, after suffering a series of massive heart attacks while recovering from back surgery the morning before. As some of you West Coast racers remember, he served as president for Wilson Ford Drag Club '79-'80, the nations last Ford dealership sponsored drag team. Although not a class racer, he was a regular at OCIR in So Cal, running a SS legal '65 Mustang. Please pray for my family during this extremely difficult time, our extended business family, and all the people he gave to generously and unconditionally.

Gary: So sad for you. Losing someone so special is SO hard, something I don't think any of us are ever really ready for. I'll say a little prayer for you.

Mike and BJ

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Mike,

Dad and I spoke often about you and how hard you & BJ worked running the stocker back then. He kept telling me I was crazy building a stick shift class car and would always remind me how much $$ and effort you had to put into it (that's what dad's are for, right?). Like he did with his job, he put 110% into the club too. But I could never convince him of his legacy's value by other WF team members.

He certainly had a heart of gold. I'll forever cherish the memories we all had back then.

Jim's enthusiasm was instrumental in keeping that club a fun place. I'm sure all of the former members would agree. The "Yankee peddler" will be missed.
