How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
+As some of you know I along with a few others are putting a memorial race together. To honor a couple of fallen stock Icons from Division one. Dave Lebrun and Alan Peters. Alan was a great guys to hang out with and had done it all in stock. From Divisional winner to National Event's winner to World Champ in stock. Three years in a row the TRW champ.
Dave with his L&L Machine shop built motors for so many from division one along with several other divisions. Dave was also a multi divisional winner along with several National Event wins. I know Dave first hand had kept many of us running on the track when we really didn't have the money to pay for some of the work he did. To say the least we have lost two great ones. For any of you guys that these two touched your lives in any way I would hope you will attend this race. At this time we would like to hear from anyone that would be interested in attending this race We would also like to ask if anyone or their company is interesting in helping this race be a success by putting up sponsorship money. We are not looking for a large amount but rather $100. If you wish to donate more that would be even better. We will list all the sponsors on the racing site along with a Poster board at the beginning of the staging lanes. This is a one hundred percent payback from any money we collect. We have already collected a few thousand and have several committing to more. My contact number is Barry Parker 413-5797729 Email me at bgp1614@aol.com We come on this site to complain about payouts and the number of racers aloud to race. This is another chance to show we can get together for a great cause and make this race a success without NHRA involved. Please now is the time so contact me and help make this race a huge success. Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
I see no one has posted here yet but I have received several emails already. We have been only at this now for a few days and have already collected $2000 for this race. So get off your key board hands and let us know if you are interested in attending and or willing to help contribute to the fund. We all complain about pay outs that are too low and lack of car counts. This race will not have that problem.
Love to see 1320 Ed in a stocker so he could show all us old men and woman how it's done. Come on in the water will be fine. Barry PS ED I will pay your entrance fee!!!!! What have you to say now. |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Barry is this a ASAR race and rules ?
If so will it be full payout for non members? |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
I plan to attend.
Is it the week before the LODRS at LVD? MikeA114 PS It would be nice to have a memorial decal for the window.... |

This race will be run in conjunction with an ASRA race. The busy D1 schedule coupled with tracks having their own bookings made an entirely separate race tough to coordinate. The date that is being pursued is the Sunday June 23rd which is the weekend before the divisional at Lebanon Valley Dragway. Being 1 of the 6 races of the ASRA season, it will follow the race format of a typical ASRA race. 2 time trials (weather permitting), qualifying based on reaction time and heads up runs in eliminations. All stock/super stock racers are welcome. The efforts that Barry is graciously putting in to promote a memorial race will be available to all participants. You don't have to be an ASRA member. The gate fee has everyone eligible for the track portion of the purse and then what Barry is able to raise will be added to that purse. ASRA members will still race for their separate portion of the purse funded by membership dues and the support of the association's sponsors. When all details are finalized, it will be a guaranteed purse (nothing pro-rated) that will be clearly posted for everyone to see. This weekend also has a VP fuel deal sponsored by Lebanon Valley which is also open to all participants (don't have to be a member). The racer with the most points between the race on Sat and Sun wins a drum of C12. There are definitely incentives for there to be a big turnout of cars to support stock and super stock racing and pay tribute to some of the legends of the sport that recently passed away. |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Thanks TJ you have summed it up better than I could have. I had decided to get involved in having this race not only because of Dave Lebrun and Alan Peters but for all the great friends that we have raced with and lost. We as a group tend to sit back and say we should do this or that but nothing is what normally happens. This time I decided to get involved. We are just at the very start of acquiring sponsorship monies for this race. We already have sponsorship money to pay $1000 to win and $500 to the runner up. Plus track money. Greg Barsamian has volunteered to help raise sponsorship monies. For those of you that know Greg you have seen him raise thousand for other racing venues. We have commitment from several others already but will wait until we are closer to the race with money in hand before we announce the final payout schedule. As TJ stated you do not have to be an ASRA member to race. Any nonmembers will race for the track purse plus any monies we put together. Anyone wishing to help or put up a sponsorship please contact Greg or myself. Thanks Barry

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Barry count me in, you may even see both my cars with my Son Tim driving one. No better way to support some legends that we lost.

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
I hope ya get a good turnout, iam too far south to come, Allen and Dave where good people, again i hope ya get the car count, i know that Napierville race pays 5k ea day and he get not to many from that area, for no reason at all. all the best guys. Brian

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Brian, Take a ride north and visit your Division one friends. This ASRA race can get upwards of 55 cars by itself being the week before the Divisional. Now with it being a Memorial Race for 2 of Division one icons and the added purse. I think you will be surprised at the numbers that will show up. Lebanon Valley has always let you leave your rigs there for the week between these 2 events. We have already received a money commitment from as far as 3 thousand miles away. Barry
|
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
If we can leave rigs, then there is good chance we will come as that makes it worth while, only towing the rig once.
|
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Matt that has always been the case in the past. I don't see why it would change. If any of the BOD members could let us know if this will still be the case. Thanks Barry

Barry and Marc, Thanks for the response and details. Didn't know about prepayment and parking, important to know, but not a deterrent in any way.
Thanks, Matt |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Matt we hope to see you and your Dad there. Dave had done some pretty nice motors for you guys threw the years. I'm sure you must have some good Lebrun stories. We are just at the beginning of putting together finical support for this race. But I have to admit the way it is looking this maybe one of the largest payouts we have seen in Division one. Barry
PS You think you could get Eric Wingo to show up? |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Barry i will be there with my dad !
Dave was my childhood hero when my dad was bringing me to Sanair! will you make some type of a memorial Decals for the event would put it on my car proudly |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
I doubt Wingo would make that trip, its a long drive for him. We race a lot of D3 so we do our testing and meet with him at those races.
We will try to make it for sure, unless we have a family commitment that weekend. Back to back and/or multiple race weekends are great for us. I know you are asking about purse, but we just want more chances to race for the time and travel expense, purse is just an xtra to us as ROI in time or $ for Div/Nat is horrible, any local s/ss association beats it. I once lost oil pressure in a motor, (freak parts failure) scorched crank and six rods on a Friday at a National Event during class. Dropped it with Dave that Monday, he called me wednesday to pick it up, it was ready for the divisional that weekend. Told me his customers don't miss races because of engine issues. I can only imagine how hard he and the other racers out of L&L worked in their prime. |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Matt look forward to seeing you guys there. The decal is being talked about I'm sure there will be something. Will let you know as soon as there is one. Barry

Barry, Great to see you doing this, in honor of some long time friends.
I'll be there if I can, but I don't make a real good spectator ;-) Meanwhile, figure on $ 100 to the winner from Blue Streak Enterprises.. Let me know how to get that to you guys. Good luck with this. |

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Hi Colleen It will be on Sunday June 23 the week before the NHRA's Lucas Oil race. We already have several thousand committed in sponsorship money and are expecting a good turnout. The track will let you leave your rigs there if you prepay for the divisional race. When you get a chance give me a call. (413)579-7729. Barry

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Why is it $160 to get into a d2 race. And $170 for d1 to race
Why is the round pay at least $25 to $50 more in d2 than d1 per round than d1 |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
James I hope you will show up at the Dave Lebrun/ Alan Peters Memorial Race. We already have thousands committed from supporters and expect thousand more. I believe this race will be one of largest payouts we will have in Division one . And the good news is there will be no entry increase. Last year Lebanon Valley was $55. to race and if they have not gone up that will be the entrance fee to this race. We will have exact details of the payout by mid April once all the money is collected. For me it's more than just about the money. It's about showing support for these two great Division One racers. IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE ALL DIVISION ONE STOCK AND SUPER STOCK racers support this race. The race will take place at Lebanon Valley on June 23, 2019. I hope you all save the date. It's about time we STICK TOGETHER and show support for our sport and these two fallen racers. Barry

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Hey Barry,
Sounds like you have a good thing in the making. To your original question regarding purse, it has been my experience in the class/combo races I have been involved with here in Ohio (division 3) that entry and payout have very little effect on car count. I really believe we could have let racers (I'm talking NHRA regulars) in for free & they wouldn't have come. There are some that will just about always show up and just as many that will not come regardless. To get to the later group I think you would have to be at a purse of ten grand or more to get them to consider coming to the track. I think that continuing to promote the race as a great opportunity to honor Dave and Alan as couple of respected friends and racers and have a great time racing is the way to go. Invest in some really unique trophies/awards that racers that knew Dave and/or Alan would really want to win. I wish you all the best and I believe that you are on track to having a really nice, fun and competitive event that in the end will be a great tribute to a couple of great long time class racers. Dave. |
Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Dave Thanks for some good suggestions. I believe you are right about racers showing up. With the early responses I believe the purse will be north of ten thousand. But I hope it's more than just the money racers show up for. These two guy were devoted to our sport and looked up to by many that started racing Stock and Super Stock in the last 30 years. There is an ASRA race on that Saturday with a racers picnic. It will be a great time to reminisce about these great guys. You don't have to be an All Star member to race either day. You would receive the track payout on Saturday and on Sunday the track payout along with the payout for the Lebrun/ Peters Memorial race. The track is also putting up a free drum of VP race fuel for the high points winner of both day's. I said it before if you own a Stock or Super Stock car and stay home shame on you. Not only to show support for these two great icons of our sport but to also show support of our class and the willingness of us to stick together. Barry

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Hi All just giving a quick update on the Dave Lebrun/ Alan Peters Memorial Race. With the help of several other people we are well on our way to making this one of the best Stock/ Super Stock races of the year. I have said this already and I will repeat it several more times knowing most of you get it. The primary purpose of this race is to come together as one and celebrate the life of these two icons. If you own a Stock or Super Stock race car and don't show up for this race again SHAME ON YOU !!! This race is about Dave, Alan, our past and our future. I have the job of making this the highest paying Stock/ Super Stock race ever. Today was Mike day. Thank you to Mike from Arizonian, Florida and New York. Thanks to all the others that have donated so far. Your donations are very much appreciated. One hundred percent of any money collected will go to the pay out. Barry

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Just an update. Sorry for the delay in any new information about the race. Lucas Oil showed interest in helping with a donation to the race. So we had been pursuing them for a possible Title roll for the Dave LeBrun/ Alan Peters Memorial race. Although at this time they were not able be the Title sponsor they have committed to a large donation. At times like this we need to remember the companies like Lucas Oil that without their financial support sportsman racing would be in big trouble. In Division One we are really lucky. There are several companies that really step up and support us. We all need to remember them when we make purchases. With the help of Dan Lynch we have picked out what we think will be a special Trophy for the winner. Scott Hall of Moroso Performance is sending several products to us to use for prizes. Rich Fetch has also let us know that they will be donating goody bags with Zep products worth over $100 to all racing this Memorial Race. We have collected thousand so far from many of you that were willing to donate to this special event. Thank You. Again 100 % of any money donated will be used towards the purse. For those that haven't donated yet give it some more thought. This could be a once in a life time event. You can call me at (413) 5797729. Or email me at bgp1614@aol.com If you plan on racing this Memorial Race there are several of us that are committed to making this a great race. Help us out send a donation no matter how small everything will help. The thing to remember also with most races that have a large payout. The entrance fee's are normally in the hundreds of dollars. The entrance fee for this race is $55 dollars. Greg Barsamian has been working on sponsor ship monies and with Bill Howell to get flyers printed. Marc LeBrecque has been a big help in coordinating this event with ASRA and Lebanon Valley Dragway. Thanks Barry

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Another update, check is in hand from Lucas Oil. Whenever we see their reps at races we need to thank them for all they do. Famed Rhode Island resident Dean Cook has stepped up to the plate in a big way. Dean will pay the Canadian racer that goes the furthest $200. He is also going to pay the All Star member that goes the furthest $ 200. He is going to pay the stick shift driver that goes the furthest $ 100. And if that is not enough he will pay the winner's All Star membership for 2020. Thanks Dean always a class act. Barry Parker

Re: How much does the Purse have to be to get you to race?
Hi Larry, We would love for you and Patsy to show up. This is a two day ASRA race. A separate race on Saturday and then the one with the Memorial race on Sunday. It's only $ 55 dollars per day to enter. The racer with the most points for both days get a free 55 gal drum of C-12. I was told in the past they have let you trade it for another VP fuel if you pay the difference. There will be a racers picnic late Saturday. Everyone is welcome to bring a side dish or a desert. This weekend will be like racing in the old days. When everyone cared about everyone else until we hit the starting line. We are also going to be posting money for the racer that travels the furthest. We will let you know. Just undecided yet as to do one or two. I will be bringing a small PA and we would love to hear any Dave LeBrun or Alan Peters Stories. I have a few. Bob Broadbent we are counting on you to have some. Barry
PS. Larry if you bring the reporter with you I will pay your way in on both days. She does such a great job. Thank you Both |
