"Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
3 Attachment(s)
Hey All,
We pulled in this morning, number 52, there are about 75 rigs here now. Its warm, 85 and sunny. The long range forecast is for rain Friday afternoon, the rest of the weekend looks nice. The first lot is now full, they should start parking opposite of us. There is class here for Stock, but with the weather on Friday it may not happen. |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Don't want the rain either, but I'll be there bright and early for the qualifiers and hopefully it will hold off till after 4th round of class. Need some good wheel-standing pictures. If not this weekend, may have to double dip and go to Atlanta next Friday. Hope to see you there.

Good morning all,
It will be another warm day, temps in the lower 80's. Rain is still forecast for Friday, lets hope they are wrong. The rest of the weekend still looks good. They have not started parking us yet, there are about 125 rigs stacked so far. I attached a photo from one of the Class Racer sponsors,Tasca Ford. Carl Tasca was the winner of the NMCA Factory Super Cars in Atlanta a few weeks ago, Its the same as the Factory Stock Showdown class in NHRA. It looks to be another good showing with 30 cars competing for 16 spots. I wonder how much the Cobra Jet's and COPO's will slow down from the recent rule change. |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Good morning, well after a short hiatus for some medical issues I'm back! I'm still not 100% after surgery 2 weeks ago but I hated to miss Charlotte being it has always been good to me. I'm about to leave for the short trip to Charlotte now and will be there around 3 or 4 so look for me on the back 40. I have my family with me this weekend so my reporting will be spotty but I will help when I can.

Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
It's going to be a long day, parking is taking a long time... its been 3 hours and they have parked 45 rigs.

That's what I heard also.
Well it looks like everyone is parked, it started out slow but by mid afternoon it look as if it would all get done. I heard that had a small parking crew, and that's why the they got off to a slow start. I found some cars out, but most had the cars put away. Stock it out first at 8am tomorrow pending weather, forecast is still rain tomorrow. |

Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Good morning all, and its a good one. partly sunny skies and no rain, lets hope it stays that way. Stock has been called to the lanes, weather numbers as of this morning....
Temp 72 Humid 64% Bar 29.06 DA 2515 Wind light |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Stock got their Q1 in and there looks to be enough break in the weather that we will get class in also. SS has been called to the lanes now.
|
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Q2 Stock also know as first found of class is in the books. It is still partly sunny, but getting very windy. The forecast is still for late day thundershowers with strong winds.
I will be back later when I finish editing the photos. |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Why so many DQ's in stock & SS? Was it for fuel?
Also Congrats to Mike Moller on the pole so far! |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
51 car field , #26 qualifier is -.855 , #27 qualifier is - .840, the mineshaft rule says the first car in the bottom half of the field must be more than 85 under. So is it mineshaft or not ? My guess is that it should be, as #26 is below half of 51. Like to hear the official word
Thanks |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
No Mineshaft. Field splits at 26. 26 is top half of field. 27 is top of bottom half of field. 27 is .840 under. To be mineshaft 27 has to be .850 under. All runs count for AHFS.

Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Well the rain finally got us, we are on hold as a shower came through. It just about stopped, if we get no more showers we should be back in action in about an hour. They are drying the track as I type.
|
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Another thunderstorm rolled through, this time with hail, it just about stopped and looks to be clearing, but who knows how long it will take to get the track dry.

Super Stock photos from this mornings qualifying. Tracking drying is underway, its very windy, it should not take long.

We are still on hold, not because of rain, but wind. Its the worst I have ever seen at a race track. No word I when they will resume or if they will resume.
Super Stock action..... |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Should be exciting - if they run the showdown cars on a very cold track.
Hang on to your butts. my bad - no prblem Ron |

Its been a long day and after the wind died down, about 8pm, racing resumed. Factory Stock Showdown got their first qualifier around 9:30. Bill Skillman took the number 1 spot with a 7.823 followed by Bo Butner's equally impressive 7.827. Chuck Watson was number 3, and with the best top speed ever I believe, 180.72. It looks as if the Cobra Jets are still the cars to beat, holding the top 4 spots.
The photos are not the best quality. I don't have the right equipment for night photography, but I will post anyway. |

Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
can anyone tell me what happened in the D/sa final? I was pulling for Dan Blabolil especially after he came out ahead of Randi Lyn-he had a bye into the final and I cannot find the results for that class anywhere.

Mike is correct, they were a no show.
Good morning all, and we have a major change in the weather. The current temperature is 50, going up to the low 70's later today. The barometer is also way up, the weather station is showing around .15 quicker than yesterday. Sock is out first at 8, and the temps will not be much higher, look for at least a 10th quicker for this mornings first round of Stock. I did get the final class run of the night, although it is a little grainy. |
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Great pics and reporting Ken, thanks. Jason Line's Buick never ceases to amaze me and apparently Bo knows Factory Stock. Impressive runs by the FSS cars given the conditions. Thought Joe Welch was prepping a Mustang so good to see Mopars running closer to the head of the class but the pulley rule change didn't seem to alter the results. With crazy horsepower numbers it's more setting up the car than anything else.
|
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
It looks like the Fords have the power. The Fords in the top 16 qualifiers averaged 5.61 MPH faster over the MoPar's, 3.43 MPH faster than the COPO's. COPO average was 2.18 MPH faster than the MoPar's.
It looks like the bottom half of the field could be in for a real shake-up today. |

Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Thanks for the kind word guys. I lost 2nd round so I will be able to get more Stock photos. They just called Super Stock to the lanes for round 2, Super Comp is running now. Next round for the sportsman cars will be after Alcohol runs.
|
Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
If you're watching at home 3rd round of Stock has been pushed back until sometime later today. They said 1st round took waaaay too long. It did and you would you think after all these years they would figure out how to pit everyone on the same side by class. If they would do that it would stop this crap of having to go back and forth trying to figure out who's where and lane choice.
I'm out 1st round, I had a little brake issue(no pedal) on the starting line. I'm sorry for my lack of reporting but with my girls and splitting time between here and the indoor water park I'm wore out. If I stay entered in Atlanta next week I'll do better! |

Re: "Live From" Four-Wide Nationals
Thanks so much Butch, great photos as always. Lots of running around between racing and getting back up to the starting line to shoot photos. Your work is greatly appreciated.
We are done for the day, they held all the sportsman until the pros were done. I have photos to edit, be back later. |
