Re: barry grant fuel pump
If you have a BG -2 port regulator, that could be your problem. Myself and a few other racers had new ones that were junk out of the box. Some guys even bought them twice and it only resulted in twice the headache. ---- Kevin ---

Re: barry grant fuel pump
I had the same problems with the BG 400 pump caused by premature wear of the rotor or vane and housing inside the billet base. The pump lost 25% of the pressure in less than 150 passes. I am sending it back for rebuild the second time in two years. Thinking about going to an Aeromotive pump.

Re: barry grant fuel pump
A couple of years ago i bought a BG280 pump and 2 port regulator. The fuel pressure was all over the place. One minute it would be a 7 lbs and the next over 10. If i reved up the engine it would drop below 5. When it did creep up above up the carb would flood. Jegs sent me another regulator with the same results. I put back on my old Mallory regulator and the fuel pressure stays at a constant 7 psi. I now have another BG regulator but it can stay in the box as my mallory regulator works fine. The BG pump works great but the regulators are junk.

Re: barry grant fuel pump
Get rid of it and get a MagnaFuel. They are field servicable for $20, balanced stator (no more leaks between the motor and pump), and a much better company to deal with. I would not put a BG pump back in one of my cars if it were free...............(excpet the one I had to borrow from Little Joe at Atlanta Last year)

Re: barry grant fuel pump
I've used a Barry Grant 280 for years with only one problem. I let it sit without fuel in it all winter and the seals dried out and it leaked. I had it rebuilt at a national event for $25 and it is now my backup. I use a BG 2 port regulator with no return along with the 280 pump. It works great, fuel pressure is steady and volume is good.

A friend of mine is completely re-doing his stockers fuel system. Just a week before I convinced him to trash the BG parts he has now and go with aeromotive. It wasn't just my opinion but that of the speed shop that sells both aeromotive and BG. It all boiled down to one brand was flooded with warranty problems and the other had no warranty problems. |
Re: barry grant fuel pump
rgarvey,
You will be very pleased with the Aeromotive products. In my line of work I obviously talk with racers practically every day about fuel systems, not to mention that we've tried different ones on our own cars as well. I hear good and bad comments about almost every brand out there - except Aeromotive. I switched to Aeromotive on my car a couple of years ago and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. They have excellent customer service as well. If you want to talk with someone at Aeromotive, call Kyle Fickler at 913-647-7300. He is one of their Stock/Super Stock experts, and he is also a racer himself. Dean Oliver www.deanoscarbs.com |

I would take a old blue holley first.

Re: barry grant fuel pump
I agreee Zasko. I have 2 Holley blue pumps on my car that I have been using for about 20 years with out a failure. I use a 2 port billet regulator from ART
