"Live From" Atco, PC Richard Open

Hey everyone, we are here at the PC Richard Open in Atco, NJ. Today is a test day and also a record setting day if you so choose to. Its a warm sunny today, about 80 right now. If any records are set I will be sure to post.

This race is a lot less hectic for me so I had to time to put together a video of Scott Gove's bad a s s Daytona. This 358 CI Liberty 5 speed is fun to watch, so enjoy the show.

I have photos and another video to edit, so check back later.

Sure brings back memories of Modified Eliminator. Love those high rpm motors.

Good luck to all at Atco, wish I could join you, but not this year. Your video of Scott's car is excellent. For those of you that enjoyed it, you really should see it in person. It is poetry in motion

Todd/Duane----I see the nose is tied on this pass. At the MIR test session it was loose and Jim and Matt both drove . I thought the thing was going to flip over on the roof. Great to see Jim back behind the wheel it was like going back 45 years. By the way, Whew that thing is FAST !!

They were going to run Top Stock, but I did not see them make the call today, I think they left.

Sorry for the late reports, busy morning. Its cloudy and cool here, temps in the low 60's. We went through 2 time shots for Stock and Super Stock is in the lanes now. We will be going into class later today. I will post a Q sheet later today when the time shots are done. Its about at tenth quicker than it was in Charlotte.

I have lots of photos and will post later today.

I'm heading up to the tower now and I will find out why there is no D1TV.

I agree 100%.

There are internet issues that are stopping D1TV from going live. All runs are being recorded and you will be able to view them later next week.

Qualifying sheets for Stock and Super Stock. For people who do not know, there is no qualifying at National Opens, its random pairing for first round, but they do print out a qualifying sheet.

The internet is very slow here, I will have photos posted in about hour.

Good morning all, it looks like we will get this race done today. We had a little rain this morning, but the weather forecast is looking good for the rest of the day. It will be cloudy with the temps in the upper 60's.

Start time will most likely be delayed to get the track back in shape. A few more shots from yesterday....

Thanks for all the great pics and reporting, as you know getting info on Opens from DRC or Divisional FB pages is spotty at best. Good luck today!

P.S. the CR hat arrived, looks great!

FYI .. All of us at DRC would be happy to cover these events live if someone wants to sponsor us.

Jim Could you break it down for each event or would you need a sponsor for the whole thing. We all think you do a great job. We have just been spoiled by you and your staff for years. I'd like to know what it would cost me to have someone for the Dave LeBrun Alan Peter race June 23 Thanks Barry

How much would it be to sponsor?

Re: "Live From" Atco, PC Richard Open

Bobby we are thinking alike. We all take things we get every day for granted not really thinking about the cost involved. Even Kenny's site. It doesn't stay running on bubble gum. But we would really miss it if something happened to it. Thanks to the people that sponsor it and the ones that keep it running. It's the next best thing to being there. Barry

Re: "Live From" Atco, PC Richard Open

Jim, please don’t take my post as a slam to DRC, I recognize that when Summit scaled back their sponsorship it made covering the Divisionals, Opens, etc. impossible. DRC spoiled us all (as does CR) for getting timely reports and pics and Warren (with great sponsorship) as well as all the live reporters have done fantastic jobs of helping fill the gap. Personally don’t like how so much has migrated to FB, what may seem like a good tool for spreading info is just too fragmented for my taste. Hope some sponsors can step up to bring DRC back to more venues.

We are in a rain delay, it looked like a good forecast, but you know how that goes. They are drying the track now as the rains have stopped.

The track is almost ready, racing should resume in about 15 minutes. I found this sitting on the seat of a golf cart. I know I have strict rules on politics, but I could not resit posting, and banning myself would be pointless.

Re: "Live From" Atco, PC Richard Open

I did not take it as a slam at all. In fact, a lot of the things you mentioned were happening anyway, independent of our sponsorship situation.

There are a lot of alternatives to follow local drag racing now as it happens. The thing DRC offers that no one else does is that we have an archive going back to 1998 for national events. Right now, the divisional archive is only showing back to 2012. To some people, that is valuable. Others only care about what is happening right now. Those who prefer to know right away can get what they need without it.

I was at every D1 division race from 2001 to 2014 and enjoyed every minute of it. I think during that time, we were able to bring people coverage that they valued. All of us greatly appreciate that Summit made it possible for so many years. How lucky I was to get paid to cover drag racing.

But times have changed.

That said, we'd all love to do it and anyone who is interested in sponsorship can email Rick Green - rick at fastnews dot net

Hi kids- Here we are at the P.C. Richard National Open and I can't tell you how many years this has been going on but it has been awhile for sure .Here at Atco Raceway there have been many ,many improvements over the years and it shows .The thing is there is still something missing and it shows - at least to me .Sure - the pits are bigger and the track burgers have gotten better and lets not forget the Winners Circle Bar and Grille - all that and yet …….

Like many of you who have been coming here for a long time I'd give up all of those improvements for just one thing - yep, I would like to have our ruff and tumble friend back here - if you haven't guessed its Joe Sway ( former owner / general manager ) who is missing .We are in rain delay at this moment - and he'd be out there drying the place and loving every minute if he were here - sure he bitched and moaned a bit - but he loved sportsman racing - and would do any job that needed to be done from fixing toilets to driving the ambulance .

Rest in peace Joe as you left your mark here at Atco .

Why would anyone ruin a helmet with that stuff?
