Air Bag?
2 Attachment(s)
I have a question for you guys. Note in the pictures that on the launch that the car is torquing to the right pretty good.Right rear is up in the fender, left rear is out of the fender. Is this costing me ET? Should in put an air bag in the right rear. this is my first time with a fox body mustang. i didn't have this problem with my 67 mustang.

Re: Air Bag?
Well, an air bag would be quick and dirty...... and cheap. You might want to see if anyone makes a bolt-in adjustable anti-roll bar (no weld-in anti-roll bars in Stock).

Re: Air Bag?
i have an eibach drag launch spring kit on my mustang. it has an air bag inside the spring I run 8 psi in the bag and the car launches level. it is very simple to install and very adjustable

Re: Air Bag?
Robbie , I always ran Air Lifts in my coil spring cars. I ran 25-30 in the right and 5-10 , left. It would still torque over unevenly just a bit. Of course it was a stick car.
That kind of setup seems to need a wicked pre-load on the right to straighten the car out 100% on launch. Do I think you're losing any ET there? Doubtful, if you are dead hooking. If you're not, put that thing in U/SA where it belongs ;-) https://i.postimg.cc/mr6hdJn9/0715-00771.jpg |
Re: Air Bag?
What kind of shocks do you have? I removed the air bags from my car when I put AFCO DA shocks on 10+ years ago. You should be able to control the body rotation with the shock.

Re: Air Bag?
LOL i need to add 130 pounds to it. I will be trying that pretty soon. Just haven't done it yet.

Then I moved to the front which I hadn’t touched except for a 90/10 strut. Loosened up the bushings changed the caster camber plates to give more movement, then the car started to rotate a little. Launch is fairly even. Shock settings are critical as noted. I have Air bags new in the box for sale. Slo Mo video taken with an iPhone. Re: Air Bag?
Robbie,
Remember whatever preload you place back there for launch will transfer to the opposite front corner on braking. All good suggestions. The air bag is probably the quickest and cheapest way to try something. I like the bar. |
Re: Air Bag?
Airbag RR #25-#35 air pressure. Good to go. It works fine for under 400hp. All I had in my SS'er that goes 11:50s

Re: Air Bag?
I have never observed the wheel changing speed up and down on the launch like it did in the right hand slow mo. Was it to much psi or not enough?
|
Re: Air Bag?
I think i and going to try air bags on both sides running more pressure on the right side. Cheap fix at under $100,
I noticed in the video that the T-bird did not drop in the rear at all. Doesn't a T-bird use the same set up as a mustang in the rear? |

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, guys who raced coil spring rear suspension cars (I'm thinking about 60s Chevelles) just installed an Air Lift airbag in the right side spring, inflated it to the minimum psi required to kill the roll rotation and all was right with the world. Worked like a charm, was way cheap and didn't have any real effect on anything but the problem. |
Re: Air Bag?
In my 1969 Impala Stocker.
Used Airbags and glued a piece of 2by4 on axle housing. On launch it hit the pinion snubber. |
