Grade point question.

Is there somewhere I can go see what it took (grade point wise) to get into specific races last year?

To my knowledge there’s no way to find that out other than racers stating it here based on their own experience But believe the races in Pomona, Vegas, Charlotte, Norwalk, Chicago, Sonoma, Reading, and Gainesville are the ones you typically need 4 or more GP’s for. Others fill early also but withdrawals are common. Others can possibly offer more but I’m sitting at 3 GP and doubt I could get in any of those I’ve named.

Todd there's nothing like that I'm aware of but if there was one that you're curious about I'm sure someone up here could remember.

Bet you’re going to need a minimum of 5, unless if you’re in the points top ten, in which case you can get in....that’s spelled out in the entry policy.

Todd,
Most of the more popular races seem to take 5 to 7. Less than that you probably need to try and hook up with someone withdrawing. Good Luck.

I agree with Jim, because the dates "roll-over" the closer you get to final cut-off. Just for the sake of argument, IIRC, if the quota is filled at Grade 5 and three weeks later someone drops out, it would take a Grade 2 (or more) to fill it. So it might be kind of hard to do what you asked for.

Bottom line is to go to as many Divisionals/Opens as you possibly can. That's your best chance.

I had 6 grade points last year and could not get in to the Gators this year closed at 7 as soon as it opened. NHRA keeps cutting the quota each year. I am not sure where that will stop. If you want to race the National events you need 8 grade points to be sure that you can play. Or go to the events that don't fill because the facilities or the track treats the sportsman racers like dirt.

I'm sure the decisions concerning quotas are made by much smarter people than I, but as far as Gainesville, I would say an EASY 30+ more rigs would fit on the road course. So maybe it's more time than space, as I hear both.

This year they cut the quota 5 entries in each of the sportsman classes to make room for 40 super street cars. Also it was the 50th anniversary for the gators which maybe promoted more interest. They have also been doing some bracket racing non NHRA classes there which take up the space that could be for the typical sportsman classes. You are correct there is plenty of pit space at Gainesville. Better use of the pits and the road course area has room for probably 75 - 100 rigs. Now that parking is not controlled by NHRA some racers take much more room than is necessary which adds to the parking problems. This year the "Baby Gators" was the big event for the Sportsman with class for stock and super stock.

That's typically enough to get you onto the Q sheet in Stock and Super Stock as well.
