The mind goes blank

"I know there used to be some tracks; in particular down in Florida and out in Arizona and such; which either wouldn’t run in the summer or would start late on Saturday to beat the heat. But as far as the northeast here, I can’t remember that happening."

Good read John. My former Arizona track would start late on Saturdays but not all the time. Great place, great times, great memories....sad to see it go.

For those of us that were at Byron IL in 2001 for The US Class Nationals, we will tell you about hot. MUCH worse than the weather we had here last week

At LVMS they do not run any local Track Point meets during the summer.
They have a few "Midnight Madness" night races for street legal cars
primarily for the kids.

If a promoter wishes to rent the track for their own events.....
They will do that but it is a fortune to do so!

I remember in the early 70’s Englishtown used to race on Sunday nights during the
summer months. Opened at noon I believe and around 5pm was first rd of Eliminations.
Modified Elim guys used to come from the top end side road and go around the old tower to the burn out box. They were fun times.

I don't know of any tracks here in Florida that shut down during the summer. They do run some at night. Its blistering hot here from May to November. Most of the tracks here only bracket race a few times each month. Orlando is probably the busiest track here in Florida through out the year. Most do a lot of test and tune days and run day fun day events where you pay a fee to run up and down the track with no real racing. Orlando supports the Southern Stock Super Stock Assn. We haven't ran any races this year but hopefully we will have a few later in the year after Jim Wahl recovers from his back surgery. Participation in the SSSSA has dwindled down a bit. Hopefully it will get going again.

I know a few years ago at a super comp race at Atco in July, we started at 3pm due to it being 105 out that day. This is when the late Joe Sway was alive and made the call. I think we got through first round before all h**l broke loose with a summer thunderstorm.

Thanks for that reminder Mike Carr! lol...that was absolutely the hottest but yet most awesome race I’ve ever been to. It was the first race I ever double drove and after 6 time trials in both cars the one day I was ready to quit! lmao

And if it wasn't hot enough the Nuke Plant at the end of the track put enough humidity in the air to kill you. Had to be one of the hottest weekends at a race for me. Broke a trany and lost 20 lbs in sweat changing it. BP
