If someone misses 1st rd it will become more effective.

Re: designated pairing

The bottom 3 in the top half run the bottom 3 in the bottom
half. IE- Number 30 vs. # 62, # 31, # 31 vs. # 63, # 32 vs. # 64.

Some very good racers seem to have a knack for qualifying just above the fold.

Some times they get a DQ or or injured car.

Good strategy but hard to do.

If you go back and look at a few qualifying sheets you will see what I mean.

The designated 3 are also first 3 pairs out. If you're late your opponent gets a freebie.
Saw it happen at Gators last year

If i remember right they weren’t aware of the designated pairs and missed it. I know there was some issues at the Va National this year in stock and super stock but no one ended up missing the round.

At Heartland Park this weekend the first three pairs turned into 3 singles.

I watched the first round on live dragracertv on my computer.

Re: designated pairing

Designated pairs in the sense that the bottom 3 qualifiers are the first 3 pairs down each round is great when it's communicated that's what is going on. In Div 7 it has been going on for a few years so we're all used to it, but it seems in a couple other divisions it has been something of a "day of" decision and not all competitors were aware.

I think it's completely necessary when trying to line up a 60+ car ladder for everyone to know who the first three pairs are so the "I don't want to go down first" crap doesn't come into play.. get things moving..

You may have watched it live on dragracertv.com but not on nhra.tv

Dan you are 100% correct.

Warren Evans does a great job and deserves all the credit.

Randy, I wasn't there so not sure. I would guess either broke or didn't hear the call. Hope someone that was there can fill us in.

It was a double header, so I don't think there was any problems in race 2. Don't know for sure.

I was the third par of the designated three pair in the first race of the double header. All of the last three cars on the ladder were broke according to the staging men. The other cars in the first three pairs that were present were Johnny Dekema (sp?) and Austin Williams.

I assure you that I don't try to be in the first three pair as I qualify all out in bracket mode. I can't speak for the others. Although, I don't mind being in the first three pair as I always come to race and not wait to the last minute. My wife is always saying "how come you have to go up first all the time".
