Stock lifters

Anyone think this will be the year when the ole flat tappet cars will get a early Christmas and roller lifters?

Think going to Solid Lifters helped with reliability issues.
But like everything else in Stock eventually we will get there one day...

Getting Closer to Pro Mod Stock !

That's what Super Stock is for.

Re: Stock lifters

Do they still have to use a checking lifter to check lift if the engine has solid lifters?
I always thought this was why the rule was enacted.

Billy Nees 08-12-2019 12:20 PM

Re: Stock lifters

If you're using a SOLID lifter then the Techs should use the lifter that's in the engine. I've been bit by lifter height before when going through a teardown in the days before the Techs had an adjustable lifter.

I don't race in Stock but I do race a super stock car. I don't see why they don't allow the roller lifters in all stock engines. Many of the newer cars come from the factory with roller lifters. Might even things out a bit and help some of the old iron keep up with the newer stuff. Stock is pretty much like the old time super stock now.

Well Mike, the way I see it, roller lifters would drive up the price of an "average" Stocker way beyond the price of a new cam and roller lifters and it would only benefit a certain few combos assuming that the stock lift rule and the rotating assembly rule stay. It wouldn't help any of my stuff one bit.

Billy, it will take a whole lot more than roller lifters to help that junk you race. Just sayin'.

I agree with mike ,keep it the way it is ,,,ss has the unlimited valve train specs ,,,yeah stock isnt stock but there are limitations to the class,if you have performance common sense and some sweat equity, you can achieve a bunch and have satisfaction on your accomplishments

I did find 2 sets of Chebbie Sherman lifters if someone still is running hydraulics. I believe one set is roller and one flat.

Re: Stock lifters

How do you break in a new cam with used lifters?? I have a used set of Sherman, but have Shubeck currently in my Camaro, and always wondered if there was a good procedure.

G money 08-28-2019 07:29 AM

Re: Stock lifters

Tim , that's what is great with shubeck or smith lifters no break in required. G.Money

You need to get rid of those used lifters. All they will do is ruin a new cam.

Tell that to the FS cars who are on the same Q sheet as the old cars. AND only 1 of those didn't make the program.

There are a lot of older combos out there where aftermarket roller cams / lifters are not available and wouldn't be able to take advantage of the benefits, so much for a level playing field.

They are on the sheet and qualifying because of better parts and better technology. The lifters are a very small part of it. Keep Stock the way it is. If it came with it good, if not run what its supposed to have

They are on the sheet BECAUSE they are underrated BECAUSE OF the parts and technology.

Re: Stock lifters

If you guys think roller lifters are too expensive try a billet cam with tool steel lifters with the proper coatings and break in.

Re: Stock lifters

Greg. how true ,we have to add 30%, thats why we run the combos with a roller cam crate motor
