Re: Nhratv.com not working again
I would like to thank Warren and the crew for this nhratv streaming service. I thought it worked great and it was cleaner than the normal free youtube based stream on dragracertv
I had to do a few things to get my stream working good, but didn't have a problem once a few adjustments are made. I would have loved to have been onsite, as I love Indy and esp SS class. When you talk about your problems, you might want to mention what you are using, as its not child's play. First I use a high speed cable modem, DSL probably won't cut it. Second I use the Google chrome web browser. I stream to a small windows 7 Acer computer that I hook to a large HDTV, via a HDMI cable, with audio feeding into my home theater audio system. I use the 728P video setting, lower right screen gear icon> click and choose between auto - 1080 - 728P - and lower settings. 1080HD is too much data, and caused constant buffering / stalling with the spinning donut. It completely goes away at 728P setting (for me). I find the little chat for help box is too close to this setting, and hard to hit, without popping the chat pop up box for help. You will want a wireless mouse for this media streaming, or at least a wired mouse, to navigate the lower time menu and video settings. Whenever I saw the tech diffuculty screen, I either clicked forward or back in the lower time bar, clicked the live video button, and then backed up, or did a reload the page, and sometimes I had to login again. I noticed the tech difficulty screen may have been there when there was no action happening, SC was running at one point, basically they weren't streaming anything. Just go forward, reload or wait? If I were to improve anything, I would study the downtrack audio levels, they are set louder than the starting line mic, and distort pretty heavy when the high powered cars are passing the 800-1000 foot mark. When promod was running, it was very distorted downtrack. I would set the mic level back 40 percent? Overall it was pretty dang good, and I have high standards. I just watched the evening PS show, and am now back watching friday morning class racing. thanks Warren and crew! its worth the cost! |

Re: Nhratv.com not working again
First, thanks for the kind words. I was happy to be part of making Wednesday and Thursday happen live versus audio only.
There was an outage on Thursday morning due to a system failure at Sony, which is where the feed goes for distribution. Everything on the Indy side was going out as it should. As odd as it sounds, I didn't have anything available to monitor whether the feed was up or down, only that it was going out correctly. My part of the deal is done, and the regular crew is handling things from here forward. I am just available to fill in if they need help. Finally, the comment regarding the NHRA.tv show being cleaner than my dragracer.tv show is true, and it should be. They have more money invested in one camera than I do in my entire streaming operation, and about 50 people to support it vs. just me. |
Re: Nhratv.com is working again
All
I am sure there are 50 ways to stream the racing, and I have several ways to do it, but there are uses for old windows computers that many people are discarding. I found a micro acer windows 7 PC, that is a compact media computer, smaller than a new dvd player. It has an HDMI cable out, and I run the audio out from the optical cable out, into a HIFI DAC, and into my home stereo. Today its raining, so I am back watching thursday morning stock class, which is working great. I watched the friday show several times last evening. All of it was great, no problems, and the video work from the better FOX cameras during the pro show late, was great. I esp liked the TF Harley show, and camera work. The ultimate is to use fiber optic based internet, and have the cable plugged into your modem PC direct (not wifi connected). If you are having problems, can they be caused by your in house wifi issues? Point is you have to have the best connection to the net available. I wonder how well it works to stream it on a PC at a public wifi, like the airport starbucks? I wonder how the smartphone approach works? anyone watching that way? Warren... your cameras were placed very well, and worked great. It was worth the money, and you did a great service. Well worth the money and effort. Praise is deserved... or the service goes away like the old game boy data service! Do you switch the camera feeds manually every run? That took some effort in itself. |

Re: Nhratv.com not working again
Warren,
Thank you for the wonderful telecasting of the races. The bosses don't say much when I have it on my second monitor down low at work :-) |
Re: Nhratv.com not working again
You didn't really expect NHRA.TV to bend with the schedule change - did you?
I did not but I am up at 4:30am just in case. Ron |
Re: Nhratv.com not working again
Warren
The stream is working pretty good again today, the audio is different, it almost sounds like the microphones down track are softer, and maybe past the finish line? I can hear the sound of sticky slicks rolling, engines off, and rear gears making the coasting noise. Its not distorted downtrack now, but not as much engine sounds. I like the sound of a good stick car crashing the gear box, and coming at the microphone, and that is mostly absent now. Maybe that audio part is not your doing? I know its tough to get the volume level correct on that one. I would like to see you switch back to the behind the line camera. I have always hated the camera between the lanes, pointed at the tree. I have always preferred a side or rear view. Your camera mounted on the crossover bridge (like during class) was much better in my opinion. I liked watching all the crew guys doing their thing, and its a better view of the cars going straight, and who is doing a good job lining up drivers in the groove. I was calling which cars were about to launch crossed up! With the wide angle, tree facing ground camera, it provides none of the good stuff. If I were Fox, I would drop that camera all together! It seems like its just good for the chevy billboard? I really like the run numbers recap of the timing, driver name, dial in, RT, etc... its perfect! |
Re: Nhratv.com not working again
As expected NHRAtv is showing a 11:00 start even though Stock is scheduled to roll out at 7:30. If in fact they don’t start with the sportsman’s classes I’m going to contest the charge on my credit card for not providing coverage as advertised.
Also, since they don’t show the Norwalk show as an upcoming event does that coverage revert back to a Warren provided event? Which is fine if it does BTW. |
Re: Nhratv.com not working again
Yep, I was told coverage of ALL. 7:30 and no coverage. What's up with that? Jumped the gun. Good work NHRA.TV

Re: Nhratv.com not working again
It did not work here until part way thru Stock this morning....
I am watching it live for the first time this year. Watching it on a buddies dime.....and its been working fine after being jittery earlier.... Its dark, dank and has been raining here in New Jersey. Can't go outside so might as well watch todays race.... Indy weather looks to be improving and should be good the rest of the day.... |
Re: Nhratv.com not working again
FYI for all - The regular crew came in on Friday and took over the operation. I helped a bit with the production on Friday but was released for the rest of the weekend and came home yesterday. The Norwalk coverage will be my usual setup, but only available on NHRA.tv. I'll be back to dragracer.tv coverage on Saturday from Earlville, IA.

Re: Nhratv.com not working again
Very poor service. No reply from their “help” line. Only way I could watch it was with a lot of buffering getting kicked off numerous times and having to go through the whole process all over again. Yes, I got better service on my ipad but it is Nhra.tv isn’t it? They won’t get any more money from me.

Re: Nhratv.com not working again
All,
I had great luck with the service all weekend long. If you consider everything that this streaming show requires, its quite a phenomenal deal. I was entertained and saw every round of SS and never left the house! I hope Warren helps out in the future, it was totally worth the price, and it shows how you need to get the best internet service possible. I like to discuss equipment with people all the time, and would like to know what works best. Maybe you can stream through an apple to your streaming smart TV, but I use a wired windows setup. The TV is a G series panansonic plasma TV, hooked up to a windows 7 Acer Revo PC, with a HDMI cable, and use a high speed cable modem. My area is about to get fiber optic, so that is going to be next. You need to prepare your setup before trying to stream, so try the website speedtest.net, to check your download speed. Max out your download speed, and then try again. One of the most amazing sides of the show is the unfiltered style. How about the nitro funny car crew guy, getting an earful for not tightening a valve cover, and leaking all over the starting line? Or Erica Enders telling the camera guy to get the camera away from her after she lost? Lots of neat little things were picked up, and then there were few commercials for most of it. That won't last, but I liked the raw unfiltered element. It was pretty good overall, with some lapses, and I didn't like the last 4 rounds of camera angles, but hey it was there. They should drop the christmas tree camera, which was pointed into the light above the crossover bridge at night (video of a light doesn't work). Also bad was the wide angle ground camera, laying next to the guardrail. They should just get a few basic good camera angles, like Warren had the first 2 days. The show quality is way good for the Pro sections, which is likely the intended target. Us sportsmen guys are lucky to see what we do? Thanks for helping move this forward Warren, and your info and replies |
Re: Nhratv.com not working again
After the brief issues early on Wednesday after round 1 of Stock class my NHRA TV worked flawlessly. I had it on all weekend and never had an issue. I was happy that I spent the money and subscribed for the event.

Re: Nhratv.com not working again
Glad to hear my equipment in the RV is not up to par.
J/K.. I already knew that, and so does Verizon. Funny though..It works just fine for Warren Evans' Drag Race TV |
