4th Gen F Body V6
Is a 4th gen f body with the 231 V6 a good combo?

Re: 4th Gen F Body V6
I have also kicked this idea around, since we still have my wife's car from High School, and its in great shape.
The biggest problem I have, is that its a bear to work on, with the engine so far under the cowl. Maybe some racers with this type can shed some light on this. |

just pull the radiator, and sway bar and you can stand in the engine compartment In front of the motor. (If your not too large) After you leave off the unnecessary brackets and accessories it should be fairly easy work on. Didn't even remove the hood, you need some shade when working in there. |

I think the 3.8L Series II engine is a good pick . Doesn't Harry Doolittle run one in his Firebird ?

Ronnie Temento from Louisiana has an N/SA Firebird with this combo and he has been in the 11.80's before. The car is for sale on RJ.

Re: 4th Gen F Body V6
I see what Mark is asking about , one is rated at 185 and the other rated at 200 . It maybe that the FWD version is rated different .

Re: 4th Gen F Body V6
FWD version? Okay I'm not much of a GM guy the Camaro I was working on was a 2000 3.8 V6 is that a considered a 4th Gen?

Re: 4th Gen F Body V6
Gen 4 F-body went from 1993 to 2002 . The 2000 F-body has one version of the 3.8L , it's rated at 200 hp . In the classification tech sheets there are two 3.8L engines listed for the 2001/2002 F-body . Looks like the only difference is the compression ratio. The higher compression engine is rated at 200 hp . The 3.8L in the FWD Monte Carlo is rated at 200 hp.

Re: 4th Gen F Body V6
I am still considering swapping my LT1 for the 3800 (3.8L) engine in my 95 Camaro. I cannot find anywhere whether the LT1 and RWD 3800 has the same trans mounting configuration. Also will the 3800 work with the K member that I have? Thanks.

I believe the cradle will work with the long V6 engine mounts. The 185 hp version looks better to me on paper, if you're not in a hurry..No pistons approved. |
Re: 4th Gen F Body V6
K member would work but would require custom motor mounts. V6 cradle is different than LT1 and LS1 is also different.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I guess the first step after deciding to do it is finding an engine.
