Shipping a Block

So I put my old Mexican 302 block on Craigs List and got a call from a guy in Utah who is interested. Anyone had any experience shipping a bare block? I have a Dart SHP 302 coming this week so that should cover packaging if UPS doesn't bust it up. Suggestions on this?

Mark Kirby, a racer and Class Racer member, can fix you up. He operates Lynn Traffic Service, and does a great job.

I used R&L Carriers
happy with them
Block was on pallet
I had forklift at both ends
to avoid lift-gate charge
watch that

I have used R&L as well. If you are close to their terminal you can ship terminal to terminal and it saves a bit. Deliver it to the terminal on one end and pick it up at a terminal at the other end.

Fastenal will ship from store to store very reasonably. -Al

I used Fastenal for a differential housing. They only require the item be secured to a pallet. Don’t be in a hurry though. Check their website look for “third party shipping”.

Thanks, all. I'll look into all of these alternatives. UPS figures out to around $500 door to door.

Talk to Mark Kirby. I paid half of that to ship a Chevy block from Phoenix, AZ to Mooresville, NC

What is weight?

Ship from zip code and ship to zip code and I’ll give you a freight quote.

Re: Shipping a Block

Dale,

I can ship this for you for $250 and it will take two days to ship.

Block must be securely attached to a pallet and dropped at a FedEx Freight location.

Your customer must pickup block at a FedEx Freight terminal in the Salt Lake City area.

Let me know if you need more information to help you make a decision.

To place an order, we need the following:

•Complete billing address
•Complete shipping address
•Credit card

Thank you,

Chris Hill

My Dart SHP comes Thursday. I'll be able to make a decision better when I see if I can reuse the box.

Re: Shipping a Block

From experience, I highly recommend shipping anything that is over 100 pounds LTL truck freight vs UPS.

UPS has a tendency to lose heavy and dense packages.

Call 651 697-8896 ask for Michelle, under 200.00

Re: Shipping a Block

I have had buyers refer me to Michelle to ship blocks. I secure the block to the pallet, build a 2 x 2 frame around block and cover with cardboard. Most of my shipped blocks are BBC. At least give her a call then check Fastenal.

I also sold a detonation damaged Ford Racing 302 block and a set of toasted N 351 heads to a guy in Minnesota. He is handling shipping. Building a crate for that today..

I had a Cleveland shipped to me in an engine shipping clamshell. It has a tie down built into it.
