Re: What was

Assuming we're limiting it to combinations in the NHRA class guide:

1962 Buick/Olds 215 (Special, Jetfire...)

1969 Cadillac 472 (El Dorado, De Ville..)
* Side note - anybody want to build a Cadillac 75 Limousine with this engine? It fits O/SA at 5,795 lbs with a driver!

Dodge had a 8.4 Liter engine at one time ( 512 cu in ) in the Viper.

The Dodge Ram SRT-12 pick up trucks had those Viper engines but were 505 cu. inches ( 8.3 liter )

Re: What was

I seem to recall that Buick had a 215 cube V8 in the early 60s, for the Skylark. And although its not a North American, a guy I used to work with owns an early 60s British Daimlier SP250 2 seat sports car, which had a 2.5Liter (about 151 cubic inch) Hemi V8. Funky fiberglass body, with tail fins and a catfish looking nose, with wire wheels and 4 wheel disc brakes.

Daimler is the one. Slightly smaller than the 2.6 Toyota hemi ;-)

Ford had an 1100 cube V8, the GAA. I'm not sure if the Sherman tank is in the class guide but I suspect it may weigh more than that Caddy Limo unless you get wink, wink, nudge, nudge specifications like the late model cars.

534 Ford Super Duty truck engine. 4.5 inch bore x 4.2 inch stroke,, 266hp @ 3200,, 490lb/ft @ 1800-2300. 7.5:1 compression and governed at 3400rpm. Nothing like the 1100 cubic inch Ford GAA that was mentioned earlier and built for military use but still a whopper. Don Jackson

According to Wiki, Ford introduced a 136c.i. V-8 in 1937. 2.6 x 3.2 bore and stroke, 6.6:1 compression with 60h.p. and 94lb/ft. It was known as the 60 horse flathead. Don Jackson

I've never seen one in a Ford but my father owned one before my time, didn't have a high opinion of it. The V8-60 was used by Simca up into the 60's, years ago I had a neighbor who owned one.
