Street/Rental Car - Grade Points?

Has anyone ever entered their daily driver or a rental car to receive a grade point? If so, please PM me.

My car won't be finished until mid summer, and don't want to miss out on any grade points.

Thank You

Thank You

Buy an old Cobalt and put a fuel check valve on it. I just happen to have one that will do the trick for you.

Did that with a rental FWD car, NHRA required that I have my class designation and number displayed on the car in the proper manner and size, no shoe polish.

I can tell you this, it was more fun getting on an expressway ramp than going down the quarter mile with a rental FWD that ran in the 19's to 21 range.

U/SA now 25 mph at Walmart parking lot is fun.

I guess I'll be showing up with my Daily Driver 1994 LT1 Firebird for the time being.

Thanks

Thanks

You will at least need a driveshaft safety loop in it, roll bar, safety harness, etc.... One of the main advantages of using a FWD street car that is in the guide is that those are not generally required.

Also, you'd have to look closely at the wheel studs if it has any type of mag wheels.

Believe some of the older Dodge Caravan models are still in the guide and you occasionally see them on the various “Rent a Wreck” places. If Bill Howell still has his that’s one you could actually race.

Don't forget fuel check...

Re: Street/Rental Car - Grade Points?

You get grade point by filling out the tech card. If you want points for your division points then you have to go over the scales and fuel check. One year I had a engine come apart first round of qualifying didn't go over the scales or do fuel check and got the grade point but no division points.

Easier way to get grade point, pay someone's entry, get them to list you as car owner, instant grade point!

Bruce is spot on here, but remember....your results can vary from division to division. In some divisions , you don’t even need a race car . Buy a tech card, turn it in...and you are good to go....

The policy states that one grade point is awarded to the driver, and the car must pass tech inspection in order to receive a grade point.

All rules are left up to the Div Director's interpretation. They don't allow the purchase of tech cards in D1 but I have heard that folks have purchased tech cards in other Divisions and received grade points.

Mr. Light, you need to meet my good friend Larry Hill. Larry stands 5 foot 20 inches tall and his trousers have very large pockets. Larry was always searching for a copy of that WEST COAST rulebook. Sometimes things are done a bit different on the left coast....

Bruce .I have raced in all divisions and have never seen a tech card just purchased Yet > The race car has to be teched in all the divisions I have raced at , which is all of them

MJ I have said rule book in hand. I was given to us on the first Western Swing.

Changing the subject MJ, how many points will you give me on the game Saturday, hint it needs to be in double figures.

I'm happy for you, but not even Don Kennedy can be in all the divisions at the same time, forever. MJ and I must be hearing strange noises. Folks have purchased tech cards and gotten grade points and not gone through tech.

Guys/Gals,

I'm not trying to stir anything up. I just don't want to miss out on any grade points, as my car will not be ready until mid summer 2020.

I also chatted with Dave Mohn (D1) after this post and received all of the information, that I needed to move forward. From my D3 Indy experience I only needed to pass tech to receive my Grade Point. My car never left the staging lanes (Broken):(

If anyone has any Rental Car FWD/RWD suggestions, that don't need a roll bar, D-loop, aftermarket belts etc., please PM me what you have used in the past.

Thank you for all of your responses

I believe that only works if the driver doesn't want the grade point.

Only one per entry can be earned.

Larry, it’s almost impossible to beat KY in Rupp arena. Their home record is unbelievable. Plus, they just lost 2 straight which gives them added incentive. I know, I know Evansville beat them at Rupp but......I wouldn’t touch this game....

Only one per entry can be earned. From my experience, I drove John's car and listed him car owner each teckcard, His grade point matched mine. Divison 2

I did the rental car thing all the way back in 1982. I used a Dodge Aries from the dealership I worked at. (Y/SA then, DF/S now) The only mods were sticking on the car number and class, removing the air cleaner and plugging some loose hoses and taking off the hub caps. I don't recall having any hassles going through tech.
