Bill Holt's call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand if stock ran Friday and it rain out Sat. ,you should put the racers at the bottom of the qualifying sheet. But those two cars had every opportunity to run Sat. BTW is that Cobalt a real stocker or just a rent a car. How can you go to five races and never go down the track and next year he will be taken a spot at a National away from a real racer. Also it gave #31 and #32 a bye first round instead of giving the #1 a bye in the second round.

The NHRA rule book say pass tech 1 gade point and 10 points

Re: Bill Holt's call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A rental car cannot pass tech and should not be inserted into the ladder.

I AGREE in 2005 I lost the IHRA World Championship when the guy flew to the race and entered a rental car...Totally B U L L S H I T

Greg,

I don't agree with the rental car concept either, but other than fuel check (which is not done until after the run), why would a lower class FWD rental car not pass tech? AND, if you were ambitious enough to rent a car at home, remove the catalytic converter and add race fuel, and develope a program for a given car, and then always rent that same type car at any given race, you might be a contender, and never own a race car or even a tow vehicle for that matter.

Re: Bill Holt's call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought you had to have 1/2" bolts holding the battery down, no coolants and aftermarket racing wheels but after looking at the rule book I guess not. My main concern is putting them in the program knowing they cannot run causing the ladder to change. Also could have made it a 65 car field and could cost someone to lose a divisional or national championship.

That's funny Jeremy, I thought you lost the championship because the other guy earned more points than you!

I believe Bob is correct!
If a rental car is so bogus or bull****, try renting one next time. Maybe we should outlaw FORDS? or maybe racers who do not run the entire length of the track under full power???

seems to be a lot LESS whining at the track!

Dean, We're talking about a car that's not going to see the track and inserting it into the ladder. That is Bull****!

I have no problem with a rental car running if it can pass tech and run the number. If it was entered to to change the ladder makeup thats a completely different call.

For the past six years I have been involved with off road desert racing. I could not figure out how the top teams would always get a great starting position on the grid. Later on I found out that they would enter buggies and trophy trucks that did not exist, since the entry fee was refunded. They would use th ebest position they got on the lottery. Finally SCORE put and end to this,

that wasn't the only screwed up call this weekend. Did you know it is apparently legal to go to your trailer for 5 minutes before reporting to the scales after winning a round, WHO KNEW?

I don't know who it was, but i've seen it in the past and I like to cal it the "Depends on who you are" rule. Of course that even makes things more frustrating.

I believe that you should be able to figure out my comment?
my comment was more about Jeremy's comment about how he lost the championship. I have seen rental cars run the index w/ very little modifications. I agree that messing w/ the ladder and not running is unfortunate and should be prevented. It needs to be prevented in the rule book first!

I still think they should ban all Fords! LOL

Re: Bill Holt's call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dean you dont see it as a problem when a guy who is fighting for a championship can go rent a car that is 2 seconds ABOVE the index and enter to gain the bonus points (which imo are stupid anyway) and then not have to pass fuel check? Maybe if you were in the same position as me you would.

Jeremy:
I think a lot of things are stupid. However, Mr Jackson (who I do not personally know) operated within the rulebook. There are quite a few things that just don't make sense to me, but the rules are published in advance and we all have a choice of whether to race or not. I just do not feel that it is the person who follows and abides by the rules, fault? For years, racers have been pouring through NHRA's classification books searching for under rated engine and car combos. I can't blame them for being smart about building a combination.

Once again, i think the rule is bull****, but not the action which was taken.

You are correct about not being in your position, but that is not the point is it?

I dont understand. does all races that you attend count toward your pt total or just your best 5 that you attend. Thats the way it use to be. I cant imagine someone chasing the pts title would not already have enough races under their belt to need to do this anyway! As far as by passing the scale this can be an innocent mistake as this happened to me me a few years back. the person at the scale waved me by. I had to return and pass wt which I did like all of my previous runs. from that pt on I always go to scale and way!

Dean I never said he operated outside the rule book....I just think that the rule needs changed...Im not trying to argue, just voice my opinion . I think any car that cant run under the index should be dq'd and not placed on the ladder.AGAIN this is just my opinion. Maybe i should have protested the car and had them pull a head or piston, and then call their rental company so they could come see it in pieces:D:D:D

>> I think any car that cant run under the index should be dq'd and not placed on the ladder.

So, you wouldn't have gotten any points at the national events at Milan and Norwalk that year, either, and would have actually finished lower in the standings.

Last year at Rockingham, I finished 3rd in Footbrake. I beat both the guys that finished ahead of me. I found out after the season was over that the track awards points after buybacks! I didn't buy back all year. I was like, "So, do I just give you $50 now and you say I won the championship?" Was I mad? Yep. They're not going to change the rules, so this year, as much as I hate it, when I had to, I bought back. I won the championship.

It is what it is. If you want them to make a change, you need to talk to the powers that be. Racers' voices were heard this year, and they did do away with the bonus points for 6 nationals.

Re: Bill Holt's call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought id agree with Beard but he makes a valid point, There are a ton of people who dont qual. under the index, but we all know they can run well under!

Heres what we do...Lets hire 10 of the old guys, 55 and over, that havent won a race in 20yrs, and still think stock is all about as fast as you can go! We will let them make an invitation only stock eliminator, They can change the rules at will, and kick you out if you win to many events!

SHUT UP! Who cares what they race, most people are for keeping the slow classes (as am I) and letting people with underfunded teams go racing! A rental car is A great way for some one to experience a Stock Elim. weekend with limited expense! Hell I encourage it, And fans love it!

He with the most points wins the championship, simple! If you lost because a guy JUST SHOWED UP at an event, then he obviously did better through out the year, and must have had a race car at home!

Deep staging is gone...
Buttons are gone...
Soon stockers will be eliminated in superstock..
Now were goin to have to choose who gets to race what...

Re: Bill Holt's call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right. So, if you knew in advance that the rules required you to run under the index, you would have. In the same instance, I'm sure Chris Jackson would have made arrangements to get his car to the track or borrow a car, accordingly. You both played within the rules. The outcome would have been the same, regardless. Would it have sucked if I were in your shoes? Sure - same as my Rockingham points example. Sucks that I didn't win two more rounds this year, too! ;)

Hindsight is 20/20, but again, people *did* take issue with the bonus points, and the rule has since been changed. If you'd like to recommend the DQ for non-index-running cars, I'm sure you can find the contact information for the appropriate people on each sanctioning body's website.

Re: Bill Holt's call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How old is Billy now? ;)

Actually, I think the Cobalt might be the new "killer app". I raced my girlfriend's Cobalt at the first Rockingham bracket points race this year, and I believe that just getting it down to minimum weight, dumping the airbox and exhaust, and throwing some 6x20 M/T's on the front, it'd be well under the index! In IHRA, it fits FF/SA, 2970#, 16.30/9.95 index. Probably would be tougher to hit the 1/8th mile index, but I think Chip Johnson said his kid ran 16.40's with his Cobalt, bone stock. Sweeet. :D

Hey, Stocker racer.. I'm one of those guys you called OLD...add me to the list.. I don't like being called OLD... I'll line up with anyone at any time. (except nap time) I think you need to show a little respect for your elders. Remember IF you live long enough you too can enjoy life in a way you don't/can't understand, until you reach a certain stage of maturity....

If my memory serves me right, (I'm one of those old guys) a racer was told to tear his rental car down several years ago. I don't remember what happened, but I don't think he raced.
