I think this link will only work if you have FB and are signed on. AA/SA final. Pond vs McLanahan. It was a post on FB from Nicholas James Samson. I'm not sure if he is on CR but.....it is a terrific video. Kudos to Nicholas.

Robert Pond really stepped up for the final. I don't think he has ever gone that quick. Brian had been quick all day.

Even though my guy lost it was a great race and hopefully those thousands in the stands thought so too and let NHRA know.

This was obviously lifted from NHRA.TV wish I knew how he accomplished it?

Great race! And two years ago it was Mangus vs Gilley. Love those heads up finals.

I'm surprised that big wheelstand didn't hurt the Camaro. Interesting that the race was essentially even at 60, but the Camaro made a much quicker move to 330. Gearing? Horsepower? Hard to tell from here, but this was one of the most enjoyable videos I've watched in a long time.

Congratulations to both racers - that was a display of how it's supposed to work.

That was 2010 - Jason McCormack vs John Calvert; arguably the best side by side race ever. I go to Indy every year, so I was there; but I still watch the video on YouTube at least 2 or 3 times a month.

Remember Stock Final - Englishtown, NJ 1977
Kenny Koonce Camaro vs Teachers Pet - Jerry Stein Plymouth.
Both A/SA cars

Jerry Stein barely won.
Kenny Koonce upset that Jerry Cross Staged..
Allowing him to get jump on Kenny.

Well that is what Kenny said..

Defrank vs Shaul at Pomona is just as good IMHO,9.7's side by side 11 years ago is pretty awesome to me.
Lucky enough to witness both these races at the scene.

I was with Brian once at Pomona and he tightened up the shocks 1 click to calm it down. After the run Mandella came over and said what did you. That 1 click cost almost a tenth. Phil took it out and the tenth came back. The Cobalt will wheelstand the same way. So does Kirbys Duster. All Mandella cars stand up.

That's some interesting stuff. There's no doubt that the force used to lift a couple thousand pounds of car could be used better in moving the car forward. But maybe it serves to plant the slicks better and there would be a loss because of slight tire spin. Looking at both Brian's and Mandella's records I would never question what they say.

My experience is mainly in Comp and Pro Stock, where it always is quicker to keep the front close to the ground. Maybe it's the difference in the suspension and/or chassis stiffness each eliminator allows.

I'll shut up now, since I may be embarrassing myself with a lack of knowledge about Stock and Super Stock. :D

Drove a friends S/S Camaro and if it hit the wheelie bars it was faster. The thought was it spun the tires to get RPM's in a happier place sooner. Lots of gear changes in trans and rear end. Same result.

The Hemi’s have gone to tied down fronts & going faster
In my opinion they have lost some of the appeal of watching them
I like a wheels up launch, part of the fun

A most excellent point! Most any of us enjoy a double wheels-up start. Look at the ones in this thread alone - super cool.
I'll add this: Just last spring at the Baytown national event, I overheard a group of guys saying they were headed up to the stands to watch the "wheelie cars". While they may not understand Stock and S/S racing, it was refreshing to hear someone say they were going up to watch our door cars for a change.

John could not get down to the minimum wt at that time in that class. He told me he even took a couple of small things out of his glove box for that run. LOL. Great run for both cars, I am sure it is a highlight for John also.
