Sad state of affairs
Getting ready to head south to the Baby Gators and I am looking forward to catching back up with my racing family.
My wife comes in to tell me I have some contingency checks coming in. She has a app on her phone that tells what mail is coming in. She ask how much I won in Orlando, I told her the total purse and contingency. She looks at me like what? You use to win more than that 20 years ago. Sadly I had to tell her that is true and the money hasn't kept up with the times but I am enjoying what I want to do in retirement.Make it seem better. Didn't want to tell her what the entry fee is now. Almost double what it was years ago and the money available is less. Good thing I enjoy it because I can bracket race locally for 1/4 the entry fee for the same money and be home in 20 minutes. Well that is all I am heading south. Hope to see you there. Mark Lewis |

Unfortunately,that's the way it is.

And yet most of the folks who frequent this site look down their noses at the idea of bracket racing. I will never understand that.

Re: Sad state of affairs
You tell her how much you win?
Of course, the downside of being non transparent is what someone famously said "My greatest fear when I die is that my wife will sell all of my stuff for what I said I paid." That is not my greatest fear, however. Mine is that there is actually a God and St. Peter reads aloud my Google searches at the pearly gates. My only hope for getting in might be to outdraw him in high card. |

I think the saddest thing here is that you keep complaining , day after day, week after week, why do you continue to do it if you feel this way. Kenny should change the site to class whiner instead of racer.
And yes i have raced stock before, still follow and also road race where we dont win sh!t, so be haply you get something. |

And that's why we continue to complain. |

Being retired and racing is a great accomplishment in itself.

I have never had a problem making my thoughts perfectly clear on a subject in a person's face. My personal DD has asked me why I keep racing. I told him because I love racing but I don't like what it is becoming. I even gave him an "out". I told him once that if he didn't want me at his races, complaining, then all he has to do is ASK me to leave and I'll leave. Even with all of the grief that I give him, he hasn't ASKED me to leave.......yet. |

When these discussions come up I always think of Animal House and this scene:

Re: Sad state of affairs
Actually in D1 with the new pay scale and the bonus $500/250 from ATI and Ford kicking in $300/100, a D1 win for me would be roughly $3900 and I don't have quite as many stickers and I haven't done oil/trans fluid or other buy-ins the last few years. If I do those I would be around $4200-4300. That is the best it has been since I started back in '09.

When you get bored, take a look at some of the old NHRA tax returns (try 2004) and the newer tax returns. You will see a marked difference in spectator income (VERY low) and Executive Salaries (VERY high). https://projects.propublica.org/nonp...ions/951686172 |

All bracket racing has is safety rules, Class racing has specs on the car Specs on the Motor, A-class car can set national records. A class car indexes are set by NHRA .after all these specs a Class racer can use the shoe polish if they want to, and in most cases, A-class car is very expensive if A racer has the budget or a racer can build a car inexpensive car and can pick a class and run under the Class Index and still win some rounds |
