NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
From NHRA...
In consideration of the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with the recommendation of the Florida governor, NHRA officials are postponing a portion of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. Some Sportsman racing will be contested this weekend without ticketed spectators, but the majority of the event has been postponed to a later date. In consideration of the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with the recommendation of the Florida governor, NHRA officials are postponing a portion of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. The Sportsman categories of Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Top Dragster presented by Vortech Superchargers, and Top Sportsman presented by Vortech Superchargers will be contested on Thursday at Gainesville and will complete competition this weekend without ticketed spectators. Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, Pro Mod, Factory Stock Showdown, Top Fuel Harley, Top Alcohol Dragster, and Top Alcohol Funny Car will compete at a later date to be determined. Current tickets will be honored at the rescheduled event or ticketholders may opt to use their tickets as a credit toward the 2021 Gatornationals. NHRA will determine next steps for moving forward as additional information becomes available. We appreciate the patience of our competitors and fans. |
Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
How angry are the spectators going to be when they show up and are turned away? Only to be told they CAN'T watch the sportsman races? I'd be pretty P.O.'d.

Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
No kidding, I flew from Vancouver there years ago and I only got to see Thursday sportsman action before it was rain delayed for a week. That was disappointing but Mother Nature wasn't there for me to confront. The poor people manning the gates are probably in for a rough time.
I would imagine all the Pro Teams are already there and how unusual that the Sportsman classes get to run while they don't. |
Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
Not as ANGRY if they entered the track and watched a full day of racing and.....two weeks later they showed symptoms of the virus....

Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
Wow, how crazy is that , the sportsman racers getting to race and the pro's have to go home!
|
Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
At least Nhra is allowing sportsman racing to finish out.
Great call |
Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
Curious if Vegas will get the same deal or if they will cancel the event. If they do I hope we get advanced notice.

Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
Curious..I haven't looked. With this postponement, they must have an alternate date in mind. I assume it has to jive with the Eastern swing? Maybe not.
Of course, with a few more postponements, ...let's just say I wouldn't want that job..There go the bonuses this year ;-) |

Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
I have gone down a couple of times on Wednesday so I could watch Sportsman on Thursday and Friday and go back to SC on Friday evening. Sure am glad I didn't do it this year. Should have went to the Baby Gators, but they re-scheduled it to start at 8:30 on Thursday and I was prepared to leave SC at 5:00am on Thursday so that got shot down. Oh well, hopefully this will pass before the 4 Wides. Maybe they could increase the quota and make it a 4 day race. JK. Know that won't happen. Everyone good luck tomorrow, especially the Volkmans. Take care and wash your hands.

Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
I have worked in EMS for 40+ years as a Medic and now am semi retired. We as first responder's have been threatened with bird flu, swine flu, H1N1, zika virus, measles, yellow fever, polio virus type 1, monkey pox, AIDS/HIV, Ebola, and now Corona. The scare was so big with Ebola we had kits made up for contact with suspect patient's consisting of tyvek suits, gloves, booties, duck tape to seal the ankles and wrist, and respirators with filter canisters. The biggest issues we faced in the last several years were idiots taking bath salts, bed bugs, and not breathing calls due to heroin overdose. The idiots taking bath salts had to be restrained and transported. It would take 2 medics and 4 cops to get the demon under control and restrained. The other pandemic was bed bugs. At least 4 of our EMS stations got the couch and chairs infested due to the lil hitch hikers riding in on the crew members shoes or pant legs. They were a menace. The not breathing calls would come in two at a time. You could always tell when a new shipment of "good stuff" hit the streets The service I worked for had 200 employees and ran 25 trucks. We never had an employee suffer anything worse than the flu and we hauled princes as well as paupers living under the overpass. I say all of this to say they were more children aborted in America today in the time it took you to read this than have died from Corona. The latest stats I can find are 26 deaths in America as of 3/10. I will bet most of these are elderly or immunosuppressed. Visit someone into a nursing home, a cancer patient on chemo, or a patient suffering with AIDS while you have a little fever and not feeling great and the chances are good you will be their cause of death. I am by far no expert on this issue but IMHO the media has had a field day with this scare (and I will not go into my opinion as to why) and it is a shame that many are repeating the scenario of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Just 2 cent's worth of my opinion. Bench Racer, AKA Don Jackson

[QUOTE=340Cuda;610013]"with the recommendation of the Florida governor"
I think this says a lot. i started thinking why this decision had to be made. if i was a employee that had to work for this event, i would probably not go to work considering all of the fans you would have to interact with, you cannot stand 6ft away from everyone if you are selling tickets, serving food, picking up trash for $9.00 a hour. |
Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
Why did they let the sportsman still run ?

Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
It would certainly appear that we are all on hiatus for awhile, most tracks seem to be canceling their programs as well. Might be a good time to do some testing, I could certainly use it and will contact SGMP about the possibility....if others hear of tracks that are willing to rent for testing please start a thread.

Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
I flew in Thursday. Matt Hagen was on my flight, and told us about the rescheduling. I got to Gainesville, had a cheeseburger and a shake, spent the night, and flew home Friday. Congratulations to all the sportsman winners. Wish I could have been there.

Well it is getting serious here in Las Vegas. They first closed all schools about an hour ago. Now Steve Winn closed all his casinos and MGM did the same thing. Not sure how long this will last but getting a room might be a problem. I would start to watch for the NHRA cancellation soon.

Quite a bit of opinion in that piece. "only " 1 in 13 today Let's just look at raw numbers..here} https://www.worldometers.info/corona...country/italy/ United States listed at the bottom. |
Re: NHRA postpones portion Gatornationals
It was originally predicted that this disease could inflict half the population of this Country, that's 150 million people.
At a 2% death rate that's approx 3 million people and this disease is said to be most detrimental to seniors. https://news.yahoo.com/burial-pits-i...172036490.html |
