Re: The Corona disruption.
From the NHRA Racer website -
"...NHRA will determine next steps for moving forward as additional information becomes available and the rescheduled date(s) will be announced as soon as possible. We appreciate the patience of our competitors and fans and the entire racing community." In other words, for now, everything. |
Re: The Corona disruption.
I guess this covers it:
NHRA is suspending all NHRA drag racing for 30 days in response to the coronavirus pandemic. This suspension includes events at all NHRA-owned tracks and any NHRA-sanctioned events such as the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. |

Closing the liquor stores, as stated above, I hope would be the final straw.

Re: The Corona disruption.
My statement here has nothing to do with politics and does not have a party affiliation slant. Ban the news and media for 4 to 8 weeks and this issue will fix it's self. I refuse to listen to main stream media because all outlets IMHO have their agenda and it is not to tell the facts without bias or influence and let us decide our opinions. IMHO their job now is to tell us what and how to think. I have worked in EMS now for 40+ years and we have been bombarded with events over the decade's. Each time we had to prepare mentally and with special equipment because "we" were gonna die. With the Ebola scare we were ready to take on Godzilla. The other evening at work some guys had on the evening news and I was forced to listen to 30 minutes of stupidity, propaganda, fear mongering, and the most sensational end of time horror "movie" I'd seen in some time. Every scene was filled with medical people dressed out like they were spraying insecticide on peaches with a tractor and a fog sprayer, and this is not the case. Very little was mentioned about common sense and safe practices to prevent the transfer of corona. Nothing was shown as far as cases confirmed, cases healed, and death rates for confirmed cases. There was no mention of the ages of the confirmed deaths. Nothing was shown to compare Corona with the Flu of 2019. You could visit 5 nursing homes shaking hands, talking to and interacting with the elderly while carrying the old Flu type A and the effects from this would more disastrous than what Corona has done in your town or mine. IMHO the media outlets are trying to out sensationalize each other at the cost of the American people. This Orson Wells war of the worlds type news broadcasting speaks volumes about the outlets that are keeping us "informed". Just my .02 Don Jackson

Re: The Corona disruption.
Don, I agree with much of what you've said but the fact remains that people need information in order to make good decisions. Critical data points are randomly scattered throughout the MSM and we simply have to look for the nuggets of truth wherever we can mine them. For example, you're sitting with a group of your co-workers discussing the current events and with every statement you filter out the things that simply don't ring true. Our power to mitigate the disruption rests solely in how we carry out our daily tasks and positively influence those to whom we come in contact with.
I could write more but the local market opens at 8:00AM for us 'seniors' and I have a few meals to plan. Hope you and your EMS brothers and sisters stay safe. |

Re: The Corona disruption.
I'm standing on my soap box. COVID-19 will pass with most healthy able bodied human beings surviving. Unfortunately some aged and health vulnerable will not. However the economic impact will not recover efficiently enough to save large and small business that employee millions of people here and abroad and the exponential trickle down effect will be devastating. Be prepared my friends.

Not a political statement here either - But it does somewhat bother me that someone who is going to be at the "tip of the spear" for this National Health Emergency isn't taking it very seriously. So while people are getting sick from the Covid-19 virus, all you have time for is to complain about the media and how it is reporting on the Pandemic. And while the death toll rises exponentially each passing day, your main complaint is that we are "being told what to think", when it's very obvious that there are a host of sources of "good" information out there, all you need to do is look for them. I'm sure your county or State Health Departments have websites full of just the information you say isn't being shared by the "Main Stream Media" outlets. Hopefully your own organization is providing you with the proper guidance on how to keep yourself (and your co-workers) safe during this emergency. The last thing the citizens of your community need is a First Responder who makes things worse. Do you really think it isn't necessary to wear ALL your PPE when interacting with a patient who might possibly transmit the Covid-19 virus to you and others? Is that protocol? And I sure don't need "scare tactics" to tell me that we have a problem here, and can see that what is still going on in Europe will happen here without some major changes to our society. We just need to filter out the "noise". So as far as I'm being told, by competent authority, I'm in the "High Risk" demographic, so you can friggin' bet that I'm taking this seriously. We're already far enough behind the curve that more people are going to suffer than needed to, but we can worry about that when this is over and we are well again. Testing seems to be ramping up, so we may get a handle on how this virus is spreading, and HOW, so we can target our resources properly. Every day is a new challenge, isn't it? Hope you and you colleagues remain safe though this, because without you, and others like you, more folks will likely be in peril. |

UNFORTUNATELY?? UNFORTUNATELY some "aged and health vulnerable (human beings) will not"? UNFORTUNATELY?? Not sure how old you are, Frank, but that statement is the most insulting thing anyone has said (so far as I am aware of) since this health emergency started! You think the economy is more important than the lives of our fellow citizens? Are you that shallow a human being? I can't share how your selfish comment truly makes me feel, because I don't want to get removed from ClassRacer, but you should be ashamed for posting it here! |

Dude
I'm 65 years old, a cancer survivor who is alive without a pancreas and at high risk to COVID-19. Try that on for size. I'm a realist who's been through the worst and happy to wake up every day and be here. |

Thanks for the kind words Lew. I was traveling to Rockinghm, N.C. this morning where I have kids living. I heard the latest update over the Radio that said 100 confirmed deaths in the USA. 52 states less than one per state by may redneck math. Maybe this was bogus info but I don't believe any media outlet and who knows what if they broadcast is a lie.. But I ask for comparison, how many men were shot by jealous husbands, people died in auto crashes, or people died from cardiac arrest or cancer in the USA in the past 24 hours as compared to Corona deaths? I don't mean to sound like I'm taking this scare lightly but when you have wolf cried as many times as I have over the past 40 years it begins to have little effect. I heard something interesting today. Many of us that suffered from upper respiratory issues and a productive cough a couple of months ago and tested negative for the Flu may have had Corona, it didn't just show up 2 or so weeks go. My 83 year old Mother that is wheel chair bound and still has a good mind told me the other day that she has no doubt that she and I had Corona at the first of the year. We were both rattling and coughing a little phlegm but felt great. Her predictions are usually more accurate than anything the Government or media supplies us with. Time will tell the effects as well as the outcome. If I get sick I will promise you I will be the first to post that I was a stupid Idiot that ignored the media and walked around licking hand rails and wouldn't wear a HEPA mask. IMHO this scare will pass and those predicting doom will have a bright red face and should have to account for the scare they caused. |

Re: The Corona disruption.
The media has done a horrible job in giving information on the Corona virus. Yes it can be devastating I am very concerned for those that it can affect. Instead of giving concise important information we can apply to our individual age/ situation they make it sound everyone on the face of the planet is going to be on a respirator if you get it. Nothing further than the truth... Let’s go for the ratings since it’s the only semi fake news they seem to have.
We have influenza viruses floating around as we speak that are more deadly and not a word about them. There was no reason for shutting down the world for this particular situation. If they shut businesses down for this what about the next flu virus??? I busted my *** to save up and retire now I lost over 150k from my 401k. It will come back but hopefully in time for me. I’m 71 years old and like everyone else don’t want to get sick and die, I have a lot of racing I want to do yet.... |

A smart leader would not have terminated the very agency that handles Pandemics. Or ignore the facts coming from other counties that were warning us about the impending danger. There are several other agencies that have responsibility to support crisis like this are not getting any direction or orders to proceed. So instead of giving direction...corporations are going to get a bailout of our Socialist money because they were too cheap to invest in their own companies. Now instead of talking about a recession there is a real possibility of a depression. Already there are companies preparing to declare bankruptcy. Massive layoff that will make the near Bush depression look mild. Too bad if the media is inconveniencing your life to save others. D |

Re: The Corona disruption.
Dan,
This virus has been here. I spoke to an immunization Dr. and it’s been floating around for over a year so Benchracers mom probably did have it. This is a changed version of it. How come worse situations did not create the mess this has caused? I’m just saying it didn’t have to be this way. People have to pay their bills but can’t go to work. Most people seem to live paycheck to paycheck. This mess has created a bailout situation, should we just let everything go down to tubes. Believe me I’m not in favor of bailouts but I guess that’s what is going to happen. |

"Most of the funding comes from a one-time, five-year emergency package that Congress approved to respond to the 2014 Ebola epidemic in West Africa. About $600 million was awarded to the CDC to help countries prevent infectious-disease threats from becoming epidemics. That money is slated to run out by September 2019". |
