Seems like the best they can do with the current health crisis. Looking for the Lucas reshuffling next.

Looks like Atlanta as well. I wonder if we can get a refund seeing how the race is cancelled. I entered Atlanta a week or so before all of this crap started.

3 east coast national events cancelled. Going to be tough to win from division 1 or 2 maybe. That stinks for so many really good racers. Hope everyone stays well and we get through this with just losing races and not much else.

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

One thing that I noticed immediately is that the Norwalk event that was June 25-28 has been shortened to June 26-28. I am assuming that there will be no racing on Thursday June 25, and the Sportsmen will get their hits on Friday June 26 and go into eliminations on Saturday June 27.
I noticed the same situation with Indy which was Sept. 2-7; has been shortened to Sept. 3-7. I am assuming that there will no racing on Wednesday Sept. 2, and the Sportsmen will be on the track Thursday Sept. 3. I am assuming that this will have an impact on when Class eliminations will be run since Stock Class is always run on Thursday and Super Stock class is run on Friday. Any info will be greatly appreciated because I always attend both events.

I like the way they did away with the Countdown. Now there will be a real points series winner instead of a countdown winner, even though it is a short series.

No offense, but who gives a hoot about the pros, how about us sportsman that have already traveled and made commitments, New England dragway 20 min from my house and Virginia gone, now what? I went to Gainsville to get the early jump on things, I could care less about the pros and their “schedule”

Yes it is a rough blow for you D1 guys. Closest nationals for you now are Reading and I assume Charlotte...which isn't ideal to say the least. Try to remember, though, that isn't the poster you quoted's fault nor is it the Pro's fault.

I know it sucks...and I hope you're still able to get out and enjoy some racing this season whenever that is. I also hope you're able to get some special consideration from NHRA if you had already entered those races

Carguy49 03-25-2020 04:51 PM

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

I hope, and pray, that they are able to stick to this schedule. Who knows what changes might be made in the coming weeks.

Remember, it is the PROS that most of the fans go to see. Not the way any of us like it, but just the facts. When was the last time you have seen throngs of people around the sportsman pits???? The stands are vacated when other than the PROS run. Yes, there are many fans who watch it all, but that is not the norm.

Good luck to all of us waiting to go see races and let's all stay safe and healthy.

NHRA is put into an impossible situation, and this is the best they could come up with to not only cater to the Pros, but how about the national event staff that has to travel with all of the equipment to these races. Let alone, you have tv contracts in place; it is truly a logistical nightmare for everyone.

I get that the Division 1 crowd takes a bit of a hit losing 2 nationals, but there are a lot of people across the nation that face this very issue every year (D6 for example). If you truly intend to chase points, you will find a way.

Let's be thankful that NHRA has come up with a solution to a current WORLD problem and hope that they can stick with this schedule. I think more double divisionals are on the table as well as maybe some SPORTSnationals per division. The DDs have an unenviable task of trying to scrounge up a schedule and I wouldn't want to be a single one of them.

You are assuming sportsman will be run at these events. This Maybe Nhras way to finally get rid of us at national events. I certainly hope not

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

This can't be good for any of the tracks. Just like every business hard hit, I hope they all manage to remain viable. Losing a National has to be a big hit.

And a six month marathon for the Pros. Uncharted territory.

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

Yes the fans come to see the pros, but don't forget we pay the way for them. Is Div 1 the only division that lost 2 nationals ? I haven't looked at the old and new schedule yet. Maybe the tracks that lost a national can get an extra divisional ? No easy answer someone is always going to be upset or effected by this.

Jim Whitehead 03-25-2020 08:05 PM

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

Maybe NHRA should do the right thing and let 128 cars run at the nationals for the divisions that lost races. Work with the sportsman for a change.

Wondering if I understand this correctly, there are 6 events that are two day events for Mello Yellow class only, does that mean there are no sportsman classes run at those events ??

I am not sure this is the case anymore with the number of entries capped. NHRA nets less than $2 million annually from sportsman racers National Event entry fees after payouts. This is an organization that brings in almost $100 million a year.

While we spend extra $ with crew, licenses, chassis certs, etc. NHRA has extra staff, track prep and equipment just for us.

NHRA would net more money buy figuring out how to put 1,500 spectators in the stands at each event.

I don’t see any 2 day races on the list. I see mostly 3 day races. Unless I’m looking at the incorrect information?!

Think the 2 day Mello Yello events won't have Friday Pro Runs, just Sportsman?

D1 racers aren’t the only ones that will suffer. D2 lost a Charlotte race, Atlanta and yes, VMP is D1 but for East Carolina folks it’s closer than Charlotte or Atlanta. It’s a big blow for Carolina folks. We’ve traveled a minimum of 5-6 hours (or more) to the 1st 4 events this year (all in our division) I’m just hoping we actually start back in June. The Volkman’s just want to race

As I see it in the email I recieved from NHRA , the 6 races flagged as Mello Yellow classes only, it says they will be condensed to run on Saturday and Sunday only . I take that to mean no sportsman classes at those races. Those races would be Houston,Bristol, Norwalk, Seattle, Topeka, and Reading !! ????

I didn’t receive said email. Was simply looking at their website, which shows 3 day events. I have no clue!

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

You would have to think NHRA thought about this for at least 5 minutes before posting... with that, maple grove is a 2 day PRO race, but looking at the start date it starts on friday. so MY brain tells me that sportsman is friday qualifying. eliminations Saturday and finish Sunday... im 99.9% sure thats how it will be If this works out. just be happy they have a plan from June on.

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

There is a real simple fix for this. Take one Divisional from each Division and let the points count toward National points and not Divisional Points. Change nothing else. I would think this would be a win win situation for everyone. BP

All of the rescheduled events, except INDY, are listed as 3 Day races.

Joliet, Brainerd, Dallas, Vegas, and Pomona are all 4 day races on the schedule.

When I first read the announcement earlier, I interpreted the message that the shortened events would be Pro-only, but after reading again I'm not so sure.

Re: NHRA announces revised schedule

Believe the designated two day events have Pros qualify on Saturday and race Sunday (possibly with one Pro Q pass on Sunday morning). Face it, there will be less full fields and think they’re trying to reduce the financial strain on back to back races. Expect more sportsman rounds on Friday of those events so possibly just one Q sportsman run to set ladders and racing for class is probably toast except for Indy. Just how I interpret the deal...

keep in mind it may change again. universal theme park originally closed till april 1st, now rescheduled closed till april 19th. and if you think this is a hoax, read bobby bennett's editorial on "competition plus magazine" about how he thought he was going to die from this virus.

Each of those events lists 3 days on the schedule. I interpret that to mean that while the PROS are only running Saturday and Sunday, the sportsman action is planned to take place starting on Friday at those events.

Remember, yesterday's press release and Brian Lohnes "walk-thru" were specifically geared toward the Mello Yello portion of the events. I do not currently interpret anything that they've written to mean that there won't be sportsman classes at these events listed...but of course right now they haven't specifically referenced the LODRS or announced anything regarding the LODRS yet.

Calm down everyone. You will be racing at National events. There was NO interruption in taking your entry fees for these events ....We have BIGGER fish to fry at this moment. Praying for my D1 friends in New York , my Cajun friends in LA,....and my entire racing family. .....Be safe everyone.....

Got an email from Pacific regarding the NW Nationals. They will be as scheduled but Pro qualifying for Friday is cancelled. Friday will be a Sportsman racing day only. I am so sad that I can't stop smiling.:D:D
Nothing to see but Stock, SuperStock, and all the .90 racers. I'll miss the action stopping oil downs.
I believe Nitro gets ONE Q shot.
