Indy Question
If there is no Class at Indy how many cars will run eliminations?
With Indy always being on The bucket list and only 4 days this would be the year to go. |
Re: Indy Question
My guess would be 60 or less. Indy is absolutely a bucket list race but......The loss of class elim's kinda puts a damper on the stature of the race for Stock eliminator in my opinion.

Re: Indy Question
Indy is still INDY....be way more than 60 cars ....for some competitors this year will be the year to go...This year the opportunity presents itself for some 4-6 tenths under cars that could finally run at the BIG GO. ,cars that wouldn’t normally have a shot at getting in..
.especially the ones that live in close proximity to INDY..... |
Re: Indy Question
We will not even consider going NOW that there is no Class Eliminations.
It just will not be the SAME. It is a darn SHAME. No desire even to fly out and watch it. |
Re: Indy Question
If there was no class eliminations at Indy, would any SS/AH cars show up?
|
Re: Indy Question
I would think with 160 quota they would go with the normal 128 ????

Re: Indy Question
Yes Chip; if they cut the qualified field lower than 128 they'd be turning away too many racer$. Indy is a cash cow for them with 160 quotas in the sportsman classes.

Re: Indy Question
Indy without class is just another national event, no luster or incentive to go.

Re: Indy Question
Absolutely no reason to go if they don’t have class eliminations. JMHO

Re: Indy Question
We could have are own class eliminations. I know this sounds like a crazy concept, but when stock is called to the lanes have all of the same class arrive together. It will take a little work and a lot of cooperation, some will choose not to play and it will be their loss.
For me its going down the track with the same class car in the other lane. I want to go down with; Scott, Steve, Jim, Gary, Parker, John, Dave, and the rest that look in the mirror and say "I Got This". 128 field 160 entries you better have the wick turned up. Class pairing by cards, four cars use two sets of cards. Each set would have matching numbers one red and one black.Like numbered race each other Red card gets lane choice. Odd number of cars High card gets by, if a tie on high card a redraw from remaining cards for high card bye. It will take some work to have the fun we all came after. Combo cars I think you are on your own. If after two rounds of class, that is assuming we get two time trials. The higher qualified remaining would be class winner. Or we could make two time trials and call it a missed opportunity. What your thoughts, Lemons or Lemonade? Everything will be unofficial, except the smile you get or thoughts of what could have been from running Class at Indy. The thoughts only last a lifetime! Just a thought |
Re: Indy Question
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe they ran class in 1969 either? At least I know they did not in Super Stock.

Re: Indy Question
Maybe they could run Indy class at the Bowling Green points meet the weekend before Indy. Kinda like they do here in D2 with running the Gators class runoff at the Baby Gators the weekend before. They don't have time for class at the big Gators anymore.

Re: Indy Question
Agree Mike but I’m thinking if the Chicago National is the week before Indy I’m doubtful they’ll run BG the same weekend as Chicago...but who knows.

Re: Indy Question
I understand that there is some time and scheduling crunch this season but I just don’t believe that you take some of the luster off of the crown jewel of the season. Indy is the race of the year. For many of us winning class at The US Nationals is the highlight of an entire racing career. Change the schedule if they must to one time run and start class but I sure hope NHRA rethinks this one if it is truly what they are thinking.

Is this confirmed or a rumor?

Re: Indy Question
Why wouldn't they choose to run the Jegs All-Stars at the Jegs Sportsnationals in Columbus In July? Then there would still be time for class at Indy? Too logical???

Re: Indy Question
For stock this year at Indy if they take 160 entries and with 128 qualified cars as in the past any prediction on the bump spot for the 128th qualifying spot and how much under will be #1

Also not positive that Ohio will be opened up by July. Thinking Sportsnats/divisional double might be Moved to Indy. |

Big Show I believe this is the way the Court Stenographer spells the Governor name: Phatazz

Re: Indy Question
I believe given the circumstances surrounding a lot of the states mentioned, NHRA will try and do the right thing. They do have obligations to Jegs and the All-Stars; therefore Indy is probably the most realistic solution. I also believe that NHRA will see the value and purpose behind awarding Class Winners, and even if that is only by way of fast qualifier, so be it for this year. As Mr. Hill stated, we are all more than capable of making "deals" in the lanes during qualifying, should people choose to. Something is better than nothing and as many other racers have stated on here, its not the Big Go(for us) if you don't have class and many will not attend.

Re: Indy Question
They have been running on Wednesday at Indy for how many years? Any real good reason why not this year. Or why not run one time trial on Thursday and go right into class for the second one until we are done. Don't they tear the All-Stars down before they run? Couldn't we run class out on Thursday and they run the All-Stars on Friday? Indy with no class really!! This is what they come up with. Who could agree with that. Barry

It will be a miracle if there even is An Indy at all

Re: Indy Question
Forgive me if I missed something along the way, but when/where did NHRA suggest, indicate or hint that class eliminations at Indy were in jeopardy?

Re: Indy Question
Earlier in this thread it was stated that the Jegs reps were asked by NHRA if they would consider running that race at Indy.
